Regardless of how good things are some folks always find something to complain about. They’re never satisfied. Nothing is ever good enough for these people. They keep their focus on the things that bug them rather than their blessings. They are miserable and they end up making everyone around them miserable as well. We all know people like that. You know when you see them coming that you are going to hear something negative. If there is a parade they’re going to rain on it.
Here’s another thing I’ve noticed. Those who do the most complaining usually do the least amount of contributing. They gripe about everything under the sun and are especially fond of pointing out the faults of others , but they never see their own or do anything to improve conditions—they just gripe!
In Missouri, where I come from, they tell about a hound dog that was sitting in front of a country store howling as loud as it could. A stranger said, “What’s the matter with that dog?”
“He’s sitting on a cockleburr”, said the storekeeper.
“Why don’t he get off?, asked the stranger.
“He’d rather howl”, answered the storekeeper.
Sometimes we’re like that old hound dog–howling about everything that’s wrong, instead of doing something about it. Isn’t it strange how critical we are with the faults of others and how lenient we are with our own? Remember, it’s the worst wheel on the wagon that screeches the loudest. We need to think about that!
