Life is full of difficulties and disappointments. Sometimes we understand why and at other times it is a mystery. In all of this the one thing we would do well to remember is that nothing happens without God allowing it or causing it, and it’s not always possible to know the exact reason why.
What we do know is this—our trials should awaken us to our need of God and draw us to Him. Sadly some folks fail to see this. A great many people go through life without ever recognizing their responsibility to God, their blessing from God, nor their need of His help. In such cases it often takes a tragedy of some sort to awaken them. While it might be painful and perplexing, if it brings us to God it is profitable. I don’t enjoy the sound of a siren, or the clanging of a bell, or surgery, but all have been used to help me. Even so, God loves us too much to let us live apart from Him and die without Him to not give us a warning, and He knows how to get our attention! If it takes the depletion of our funds, difficulties in our family, or disease of our flesh to awaken you, it is for your good. What becomes of it depends on the choice you make. Some people get bitter, others get better.
Believe it or not the very worst thing that has ever happened to you can turn out to be the best if that’s what it takes for you to be saved. You can be bankrupt, divorced, incarcerated, or terminally ill and still go to heaven. You can be mistreated, abused, and neglected by others and still be a child of God. Regardless of what you are going through it isn’t as bad as dying without Christ. That’s as bad as it gets. So rather than despising your trials allow them to draw you to Christ. Rather than cursing your suffering consider His. He suffered beyond anything your mind can imagine and died in your stead so that you might be saved. That is proof that he cares for you. Trust Him and he will turn your burden into a blessing.
