THE FOLLY OF DENYING GOD
Psalm 14:1, “The fool hath said in his heart: There is no God!”
Lee Strobel, once an atheist himself, rightly observed the absurdity of unbelief: “To continue in atheism, I would need to believe that nothing produces everything, non-life produces life, randomness produces fine-tuning, chaos produces information, unconsciousness produces consciousness, and non-reason produces reason.” This is not science–it is blind faith in the impossible. It is the worship of chance, the deification of disorder, and the exaltation of man’s autonomy over God’s authority.
Atheism is not neutral ground. It is a willful rejection of the truth that God has made plain. The heavens declare His glory (Psalm 19:1), and every cell in our bodies testifies to His intricate design. The conscience within us bears witness to His moral law (Romans 2:15). Yet the atheist suppresses this truth, not because of lack of evidence, but because of love for sin. “Claiming to be wise, they became fools” (Romans 1:22).
But praise be to God–He is rich in mercy. Even the most hardened atheist is not beyond the reach of God’s grace. Strobel himself was transformed by the gospel which he once mocked. The cross of Christ is the power of God to save those who believe (1 Corinthians 1:18). The same gospel that exposes the folly of unbelief, also offers the wisdom of salvation.
Let us not be ashamed of the truth. Let us boldly proclaim that “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge” (Proverbs 1:7), and that all who deny Him are building their lives on sand. May we pray for those still in darkness, and may we shine the light of God’s Word with clarity, conviction, and compassion.
Lord, thank You for opening our eyes to Your truth. Keep us from the folly of prideful unbelief. Give us boldness to proclaim Your gospel,and compassion for those who are willfully blind to Your glory. May Your Spirit convict hearts and draw many from foolishness to faith.
