“That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.”– Eph. 3:17-19
However, although beyond our apprehension, it is not beyond our appreciation. We don’t merely marvel at it, we love Him because He first loved us. And loving Him is the key to us living for Him. It is also a means of humility. Regardless of how much we love Him, we have nothing in which to boast, save in the cross of Christ where His love was displayed. We who deserve nothing can rejoice in knowing that in Christ we have life’s greatest treasure. His love is unearned, undeserved, unequalled, unfailing, unfathomable, and unending. Why then should we ever complain? James Smith wrote, “Wonder, O heavens, and be astonished, O earth! That Jesus should have fixed His love upon such poor, depraved, insignificant creatures – and that from eternity past!”
No wonder that we’re told to keep “Looking unto Jesus” ( Heb. 12:2). Understanding who we are and what we have in Christ is crucial to our well being and success. Keeping that in mind we never have cause to complain and always have a reason to rejoice.- HDS
