“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” – John 3:16
“We love him, because he first loved us.“- 1 John 4:19
“Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.”- 1 John 4:11
“God so loved the world” – that we know. What we don’t know is the “breadth, the length, the depth, and height” (Eph. 3:18) of His love. There is no way to measure God’s love toward us. Neither is there any way we can love Him as much He deserves. But we could love Him more.
There should be no question about God’s love. The only question has to do with our love for Him. Where is the evidence? Octavius Winslow said, “it is utterly impossible to know Christ, and not become inspired with a desire to love Him supremely, to serve Him devotedly, to resemble Him closely, to glorify Him faithfully here, and to enjoy Him fully hereafter!”
The degree of our love for Christ can be determined by the measure of our devotion to Him. that being the case you have to wonder if some people love Him at all. And especially when you consider that the first commandment is connected to the second – “Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself” ( Matt. 22:39). Not only do we love Him because He first loved us, we also love others as a result of loving Him. – HDS
