WE ARE WHAT WE THINK
Proverbs 23:7 says, “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he..”
Not too many years ago there was a commercial on TV that was quite comical. Someone was dressed in a French fry costume playing soccer. As they quickly grew tired running down the field, the narrator says “You are what you eat!”
Maybe we need a commercial conveying “we are what we think.” The Bible teaches us how important our thoughts are. Our thoughts become words, actions, and habits. This reality should awaken our discernment about what we allow to enter our minds. This urges us to become more selective with what we take in from social media, video games, television, movies, music, and what is being said around us.
Unhealthy thought patterns are the source of many marital problems, contentions in the family, and tension among friends.
It’s been said that the average person has 6.5 thoughts per minute, which comes out to 6,200 thoughts per day, and 2.2 million thoughts per year.
We can surely say our thoughts are continually molding us into the person we are becoming.
We need spiritual victory in our minds. Philippians 2:5 says Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus. We must have a continuous intake of God’s word in order for this to happen. It will cause us to focus on Christ. He never had a wrong thought, held onto a personal offense, nor entertained pride, or let any of his thinking spiral out of control.
Let’s work today and every day on the development of the mind of Christ in us!
“We are what we think” can become a positive truth, not a negative one!
