GRATEFUL FOR THE GREAT STORMS OF LIFE
“And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side. And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships. And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.”
Mark 4:35-37
Why would Jesus send his disciples into a storm?
In the early 90’s an experiment called the Biosphere 2 took place. Large areas were enclosed with glass creating an artificial environment to see how different living things responded to it. The experiment of no exposure to the natural weather, especially the wind, proved to bring weakness to the trees. They grew tall at a rapid pace, but they had no maturity and strength. They needed the “great storm of wind” to produce a hard build up for strength and a well established root system, which is called “stress wood”. It was discovered that trees get their strength from the stormy winds.
We don’t usually stop and thank God for the storms of life. We actually think of how grand life would be without them. If we were to experiment life isolated from all storms we would find that we wouldn’t do so well. There would be noticeable weakness in our lives. We would never mature into greater Christian character without the storms. We need the storms for strong maturity.
God knows exactly where we are in our storm, what we are going through, and He is producing positive benefits for our good and His glory. May we know that God will not only sustain us in the storm, but give us great strength which we could never gain any other way.
We can be GRATEFUL FOR THE GREAT STORMS OF LIFE
