MORNING MANNA 12-17-22
CONQUERING CIRCUMSTANCES
“ Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls: Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation. The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds’ feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places. To the chief singer on my stringed instruments.“- Hab. 3:17-19
Those who know me know how special these verses are to me. For 57 years they have reminded me that we do not have to live under the circumstances. There are things we didn’t choose that we can’t control or change, but there is never a time when we have to cave in to our circumstances.
Habakkuk ministered to his people with a storm cloud hanging on the horizon. The Babylonians were about to descend upon them, defeat the people, demolish the city, and destroy the temple. Yet, all this did not cause Habakkuk to despair. He knew full-well that destruction was coming, yet he decided to “rejoice in the Lord”,to be “joyful in God”.
That’s not what you would expect from the average person, but it is what you see when a man puts his trust in God. He who walks by faith knows that the worst opposition gives him the best opportunity to glorify God by showing others what confidence in what God can do!
May God help all of us to bear such a testimony. We cannot escape troubles and trials, but we endure them by enjoying what God affords in our relationship with Him. “ Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.”(Eph. 6:10).- HDS
