“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” – Eph. 2:8-9
Sadly, some people are deceived by the devil, distracted by their duties, and deluded by their desires. They think the greatest joy is found in getting what they want, even though it is of no spiritual benefit or eternal value – so they ignore what they need. They don’t realize that getting what they want won’t provide any lasting satisfaction.
Christ alone can meet our deepest need and provide perfect peace and everlasting joy. That’s what prompted Paul to say, “Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift” ( 2 Cor. 9:15). There are many wonders in the world, but the most wonderful thing of all is God’s gift of eternal life through the death of His own dear Son. It benefits us now and for eternity, and it is free! What works couldn’t win, efforts can’t ensure, goodness can’t gain, prayers can’t provide, and sincerity can’t secure, God’s grace gives!
