“After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.” – Gen 15:1
There’s a theme throughout Scripture that can be summarized in two often-repeated words: “Fear not.”
We as humans are prone to fear and anxiety—aren’t we? It’s in our nature to worry.
Of course, this has been seen most recently in the global panic concerning the Coronavirus.
And yet, Jesus tells us to “fear not.” How do we do that when fear comes so naturally to us? Is it as easy as just deciding not to? In many cases, yes—to turn away from fear is simply a choice. Jesus said in Mark 5:36, “Be nor afraid; only believe.”
We must starve our fears and feed our faith. We do this by trusting the Savior. We remind ourselves of His character and His promises. We make the conscious decision to trust in the One who is trustworthy, and to take each thought captive when fear and worry come knocking on the doors of our minds.
God is in control. God is good. God loves us more than we can possibly imagine. God has plans for us. God knows the future. God is working things for our good.
Let’s choose to remember these things and to place our wholehearted confidence in the Lord when we are tempted to worry, fear, or doubt today. – Arnie Cole
