“But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.” – Luke 12:7
I’m certain that every Christian would agree with me if I said, “It is a sinful and dangerous thing to disobey God’s commandments”. Evidence proves that is true! When the Bible says, “Thou shalt not” we should not, and if we do there are consequences. Yet somehow we tend to feel that we are an exception to the rule when it comes to the command “Fear not”.
In regards to most sins some would say, “I would be afraid to do that”. But when it comes to fear they feel they have the freedom to do as they please. Spurgeon gave wise advice when he said, “Fear to fear. Be afraid to be afraid”. Then he added this counsel, “Your worst enemy is within your own bosom. Get to your knees and cry for help, and then rise up saying, ‘I will trust, and not be afraid’.” That is precisely what we should do regardless of the situation before us.
We are not excused from duty because it is difficult or dangerous. Devotion to duty should drive us press on when others are quitting, keep on when it seems futile, and not give up when it appears that we might get hurt. We have no right to abandon the ship of ministry just because we encounter storms along the way. Such storms are to be expected and endured. Sometimes it is by means of our misery that we are able to minister to others. Our testimony in troubled times is a powerful tool in showing others what great things God can do. The darker the night the brighter the light! ” Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. ” – Matt. 5:16
