“Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.” – Romans 15:13
Someone said, “You can survive forty days without food, three days without water, eight minutes without air. But you can’t survive a second without hope”. That’s close to the truth. Hope is essential and the world is unable to provide it. You can’t find it in religion, relationships, riches, reformation, or all the self-help books in the world.
For hope you must go to the “God of hope“. Hope comes only from a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and a knowledge of the truth He has revealed to us. That’s why it is crucial that we search God’s word – “For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.” ( Rom. 15:4). Hope is more than wishful thinking or a positive attitude. Hope is a future focused faith. It is the confidence that God will do as He promised. And just as faith comes by the hearing of God’s word (Rom. 10:17) we can “abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost” who uses the word of God, the sword of the Spirit, to build our hope.
So if you are asking “Is there hope?” the answer is “Yes!” If you are struggling with feelings of hopelessness I encourage you read “whatsoever things were written” and meditate on God’s mighty miracles that you “through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.” ( Rom. 15:4). – HDS
