Yesterday’s article set before us the best advice anyone could ever give, “Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it” (John2:5). However, before we can obey Him we must hear Him and that’s exactly what our text tells us to do.
There are many voices coming from a confused world clamoring for our attention. Considering that our heart is deceitful we must take great care in who we listen to. Making matters all the more difficult is that most of these voices appeal to our desires. Our adversary, the devil, is cleaver and he designs our temptations according to our fleshly desires. Even in the matter of religion he appeals to our pride so as to make it about what we do rather than what Christ did.
That’s why, regardless of what we’re talking about, it’s crucial that we know the truth. And the only way we can be certain is to hear what our Lord says about the matter. But, how do we do that? Contrary to what some claim, we don’t hear God speak in an audible voice. Nor can we rely on dreams’ visions, or our feelings. To hear God speak we must hear God’s Word.
In a world clouded by confusion we are in desperate need of a clear word of truth and that’s exactly what we find in the Bible. Not only is it all true, it deals with out most pressing need. Not only does it reveal man’s greatest need it gives us the remedy for our problems. It ministers to us in ways what nothing else can do. It has transforming power.
Think about it. You have within your reach the means to hear from God Himself, who created heaven, earth, and the universe. In that blessed old book you discover the answer to life’s most serious questions, commands, counsel, guidance, promises, and comfort. It would be foolish for us to not hear Him. – HDS
