PERFECT PEACE
“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.”- Isaiah 26:3
To some extent the pursuit of peace seems to be on everyone’s to do list. After all, considering this troubled world we live in, who wouldn’t want peace? Yet it is obvious that few people ever find it. Even those who seem successful in all the so called important areas of life are seldom at peace. Truth is, sometimes they are the most troubled of all.
Due to all this, our text should be of great interest to everyone. Here we see the path to and promise of perfect peace. That’s worth more than all the possessions and pleasures that the world has to offer. The key is to keep our mind “stayed on” the Lord. The perfect peace of which the Bible speaks is possible only if we “consider” Christ ( He. 12:3), reflect on our Redeemer, and meditate on our Master. As Spurgeon said, “It is when we think much of Christ, that we think little of our troubles, little of our doubts and fears that surround us”.
Thankfully peace is possible. But if it is to be possessed we must not allow our mind to drift, doubt, or be distracted. We must keep our focus on Christ who is faithful to keep His promises, who is more powerful than our problems, and whose love is everlasting. So, rather than being distracted by the world you must “in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” ( Phil. 4:6-7).
Regardless of what great trial you’re going through, peace is possible because it is promised and provided by the Prince of Peace. Every time I think of this verse it reminds me of the great need for people to hear it again. Such peace is priceless and it’s possible for every person who obeys this precept. Peace doesn’t come just floating into your mind out of nowhere. Peace requires a conscious effort on your part, and Paul spells it out clearly in Phil. 4:8-9 “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.”– HDS
