“For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.” – 1 Tim. 2:5
I love the true story told by James Smith In 1859. It was the obituary of a young lady. After much suffering and mental distress she finally found peace and joy by trusting Christ as her Lord and Savior. With all her doubts and fears gone, others took notice in her great joy – so much so that someone inquired as to the cause of her happiness. She replied by saying, “Through Christ I look at God; and through Christ God looks at me”.
Speaking of that Smith said, “Is it not a sweet thought, that Christ stands between the believer and God; so that if the believer looks up to God, he looks through Christ; and if God looks down on him, he looks on him through Christ. I wish to keep this thought in my mind, that it may influence my conduct and feelings; I will therefore endeavor to meditate on it”. We ought to do the same.
What a tremendous thought! It is a glorious truth. We are sinful and God is of “purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity”( Hab.1:13), yet through Christ looks upon us as His dear children! Now, rather than seeing us in the filthy rags of our sins God sees us wrapped in the spotless robe of Christ’s righteousness. By looking at us through Christ we are “accepted in the beloved” ( Eph. 1:6) and “have access by faith into this grace” ( Rom. 1:2) – HDS
