FACING THE FACTS
“These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” – John 16:33
Having been saved by the grace of God I have no cause for complaint, but neither do I have the right to think that life should always be fun and easy. Living by faith doesn’t mean living like a fool. Common sense forces me to face the facts.
— My time is getting shorter.
— My days seem longer.
— My body is getting weaker.
— My steps are getting slower.
— My eyes are getting dimmer.
— My hearing is getting worse.
— My joints are getting stiffer.
— My meds list keeps growing.
— My to-do list keeps increasing.
— My desires keep getting farther away from my abilities.
— My bucket list has a hole in it.
— My memories grow fonder.
— My interest in sports has reached zero.
— My hatred of politics has skyrocketed.
— If I could I would do anything for my church – except compromise.
— My grand kids get more precious.
— My children are becoming more understanding.
— I’ve never been more thankful for my family.
— My wife is more loved and appreciated.
— Life keeps changing.
But my God never changes. His promises are sure, His grace is sufficient, the best is yet to come, and heaven’s sounding sweeter all the time! One day soon I will leave this world of sorrow and step on the shore of sweet deliverance. Home at last, in the presence of my dear Savior, with the departed saints, and beheld by angels. There, in a glorified body free from pain I will enjoy the treasures and pleasures prepared for me as a joint heir with Christ. Every moment will be filled with the wonders of new discoveries throughout eternity. Until then I’ll keep on singing “This world is not my home. I’m just passing through“. — HDS
