GOD IS FOR ME
“…. God is for me.”– Psa. 56:9
As you read these words try to picture yourself in David’s situation. He is being hunted like a wild animal by men trying to kill him, yet he faces his fear with this wonderful fact – “God is for me”. These four words are more helpful to me than all the books ever written by man. In this storm tossed world in which we live this truth sets the ship of life right when it seems that destruction is sure.
Even Among those who have been saved there are times when the difficulties of life overwhelms them and distorts their reasoning. They might even feel that God is being unfair or treating them like an enemy. Therefore, it does us good to meditate on these words – “God is for me”. It might be a time of terrible suffering, tragic sin, terrific shortage, or something else. The nature of the problem doesn’t matter, our God is bigger than any problem and is able to enable us to overcome them. But to do so we must cling to the truth of this verse and others such as Romans 8:28 and 31. I could cite 1001 examples of how God has proven He is for us, but it would be to no avail if you refuse to believe His word. If you fail to believe God’s promises you must live with the consequences.
The more you know about God the greater the comfort you derive from these words. So as you read them you ought to take into account all the Bible says about Him. A good example is Heb. 13:5-6 where we are reminded that God is our helper and will not forsake us. He is for us, to protect and provide, to guard and to guide, to give courage and comfort. Were He not for us we would have perished long ago. So, rest in peace dear friend. Knowing God is for us, we need not fear anything or anyone who is against us. With God for us we are on the winning side! – HDS
