“Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.” – Mat. 6:34
The song serves to remind us that if we are to deal with what we don’t know we must focus on what we do know. As the song says, “I know —
– what Jesus said.
– who holds tomorrow.
– who holds my hand.
– the one who stands beside me.
– His presence goes before me.
– I’m covered with His blood.
Armed with these facts we are able to face the unknown. These truths assure us that, come what may, we will be alright. Rather than dreading the unknown and fearing what might be, we can delight in what we know and focus on what we are sure of. Our relationship with God never changes and He has given us exceeding great and precious promises that cannot fail. That ought to encourage us.
It is no small matter that Jesus commanded us to “take no thought for tomorrow“. Rather we are to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness which assures us that our needs will be met – one day at a time (Matt.6:25-33).
We might indeed go through the worst day of our life tomorrow, but we know it will be followed by the best day of our life. It always ends that way for the Christian. Regardless of how bad tomorrow is rest assured that the best is yet to come. It could be tomorrow! God’s children always have something good to look forward to, so don’t allow negative thoughts about what might happen blind you to the good things that will happen. — HDS
