MORNING MANNA             8/21/20

August 21, 2020 By Pastor David Stone

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; “ – Rom.3:23

Yesterday I spoke about the subject of struggles – something we all wish we could avoid. After posting the article I noticed that, technically, I had misspoken. I said, “no one word describes everyone”. Well, actually that’s not true. The word sinner covers every person on earth. Regardless of how cultured, refined, religious, or important a person is he is still a sinner. He might be the best neighbor, the most generous person in town, or the kindest person you ever met, but he is a sinner in the eyes of God.

That not only describes everyone it also declares why we struggle – “the way of transgressors is hard” ( Prov. 13:15). Sin is the root of all our troubles and trials. Sin’s curse put fear in man, fury in the beast, venom in the serpent, and thorns on the roses. Most of our “Why?” questions can be answered with the word “sin”. Understanding the seriousness of sin sheds light on why the world is as it is. Although it’s the last thing most people want to talk about it’s the first thing we need to consider.

1 John 3:14 says, “sin is the transgression of the law”. And what it does is awful beyond description. Sin produces slavery to our lust (Ja. 1:14), sorrow in out lives (Psa. 32:10), and separation from the Lord. Every person is born with a sinful nature. He is spiritually dead – separated from God and condemned by God. Thankfully God has provided Christ to redeem us from sin and reconcile us to God. By being born again we become a child of God and have an eternal relationship with Him.

So as you think about the struggles in life remember this. The sorrow of sin should lead to sorrow for sin, which leads us to salvation from sin. Salvation is the only source of satisfaction. That doesn’t eliminate all the pain, suffering, and struggles, but the same God who saves us will also sustain us even in the most severe struggles. Through it all, until the day when we will be through with it all, we can rely on the constant care and precious promises of our heavenly Father to protect and provide. Were we as concerned about sin as much as we are about struggles there would be a lot less to contend with. – HDS
