“For whether is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am among you as he that serveth.” – Luke 22:27
If you are a Bible believer you know who is the greatest. It is Christ. That is a fact declared in the Scriptures and demonstrated by the life He lived. I’m not just talking about His miracle working power, vast knowledge, infinite wisdom, or purity of life – as noteworthy as they are. I’m talking about His greatness as seen by him taking the place of a servant to sinners. He said, “For whether is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am among you as he that serveth”.
That being the case, perhaps we’re not as great, nor as Christlike, as we think we are. In this self-seeking age where men’s applause is deemed more valuable than God’s approval we find few with a true Christ-like spirit – people devoted to meeting the needs of others. Seeking their own glory they have no concern for the good of their neighbor.
Those who are truly great stick out like a sore thumb – not because they seek attention, but because they give attention to others. They can’t escape the notice of those who benefit from their kindness. True servants are at the ready to help those in need. You’ll find them at the door step of the needy and in the trenches with those fighting for survival. They do without so others won’t have to, and suffer so as to soothe those who are suffering. They are the great ones! – HDS
