MORNING MANNA            9-30-23

September 30, 2023 By Pastor David Stone

MORNING MANNA            9-30-23

REMEMBER
“I will remember the works of the LORD: surely I will remember thy wonders of old. I will meditate also of all thy work, and talk of thy doings. Thy way, O God, is in the sanctuary: who is so great a God as our God? Thou art the God that doest wonders: thou hast declared thy strength among the people.”- Psalm 77:11–14

The remedy for a loss of love is a remembrance of God’s grace.

There are times in everyone’s life when retrospect is not only beneficial but necessary. Here are a few things one preacher suggests we can see when we stop to look back at our lives:

The deliverances the Lord has wrought (Deuteronomy 5:15)
The way He has led (Deuteronomy 8:2)
The blessings He has bestowed (Deuteronomy 32:7–12)
The victories He has won (Deuteronomy 11:2–7)
The encouragements He has given (Joshua 23:14)

Have you ever taken time to simply reflect on all God has done in your life? Have you ever stopped for a few minutes to remember your life before Christ? As we saw yesterday, a loss of love can happen as time goes on in our Christian life. We get wrapped up with our current schedules, appointments, battles, and struggles that we fail to look at those around us and love them with the same love Christ showed while He was on earth. It’s easier to focus on ourselves rather than put forth the effort to love others.

So what is the remedy for a loss of love? What will help us see others as Christ sees them? Let’s focus on two ways we can regain a love for others today.

First, remember God’s work in your life. Do you remember the day you were saved? Remember how God spoke to you, perhaps through someone, and convicted you of your sin? Do you remember what your life was like before you were saved? What were your hobbies; what places did you frequent; who were your friends; what did you live for?

Your past is someone’s present. What you used to do is what someone is doing now. The only difference is that your sins have been forgiven and your life has changed. You have been saved from that life. Remembering the life you used to lead should compel you to love others and share God’s hope with them.

The next step in regaining your love for others is to repent of your pride. Focusing on the sin of others is a heart problem; it shows a lack of humility. Had it not been for God’s love and mercy, you would be right where they are! Even though Christ was the Lord of all, He humbled Himself, “And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross” (Philippians 2:8). Humbling yourself and realizing your position as a sinner saved by grace will renew your love for others lost in sin.

Have you lost your love for others? Have you been so filled with pride that you failed to reach out to those who need God’s help? Never become so high that you cannot reach down to the lowest sinner. Christ shows a perfect example of humility and love.

Spend time right now renewing a love for others in your heart. Remember your life before God saved you. Remember the hopelessness you felt. Thank God He saved you from that! Also repent of any attitude you might have toward others. Let God’s love for others fill your heart so much that you cannot go a day without telling someone of His gift to them.- Striving Together
