The fact that there is a curse upon the earth is both stated (Gen. 3:14-19) and seen (Rom. 8:20-23). No one in their right mind would say that everything is perfect, that nothing couldn’t be improved upon. Everyone realizes that things should and could be better than they are. The curse upon the earth is not only plain, it is painful. Everywhere you look you see pain and suffering. Every day we see abuse and neglect, dishonesty and injustice, sickness, suffering and death–and it keeps getting worse rather than better.
That’s the bad and sad news. The good news is that there is coming a day when there will be “no more curse“! How about that? God, who cannot lie (Titus 1:2), has promised that it shall be so. He who has never failed to keep a promise,, nor to fulfill a prophesy, tells us of a time when “there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain (Rev. 21:4), “no more curse” Rev. 22:3).
Words cannot describe what a glorious thought this is! The same God who, for a corrective purpose, cursed the world will one day remove the curse and restore the earth to its former glory, by delivering it from the bondage of corruption (Rom. 8:19). It will be as we sing in the Christmas carol:
“No more let sins and sorrow grow,
Nor thorns infest the ground;
He comes to make His blessings flow
Far as the curse is found,
Far as the curse is found,
Far as, far as, the curse is found.”
Yes indeed there will be “Joy to the world”! As great as eternity will be because of what it brings, it will also be great because of what it banishes– “no curse“. Dear friend, it is impossible for us to comprehend what that will be like. Let your imagination run wild and picture the best you can, and it’s better than that! As dear Bro. Nolan sings, “Heaven is better than this”! No wonder we love to sing, “What a day that will be”. When the curse is lifted we can at long last finally honestly say, “It doesn’t get any better than this!” And I close with the words of John, “Even so, come Lord Jesus“(Rev. 22:20). Are you ready?
