Commenting on Hebrews 1:1-3,author Terry Virgo said: God spoke in several ways in the past but in these last days God has spoken to us in His Son, who is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature.
He is the outshining radiance of God. No man has seen God at any time. Just as we cannot gaze directly at the sun, but can often see magnificent rays of sunlight pouring through gaps in the clouds, so we cannot see God but we can know Him through the One who has come to us where we are.
The sun’s rays are the outshining of the sun. They are the sun coming to us in ways that it is possible for us to see. Jesus came to man radiating the presence of God.
So, what are you focused on? Where is your attention? Are you thinking about your problems, your powerlessness, your pleasure, your possessions, your popularity, etc? Since God is speaking, should not we listen? Since God is showing us “the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person” (Hebrews 1:3) through Christ would we not be fools to focus on anything but Christ?
If you feel over-whelmed, burdened-down, fearful, lonely, sad and blue, you should be “Looking unto Jesus”(Heb. 12:2)—“consider him”(Heb. 12:3) and it will make a world of difference. When you can’t change or control your circumstances, consider Christ and although nothing else changes, it will change you! And we all need to be changed.
