THINK ABOUT IT 6-3-25
DOWN ON YOUR KNEES
For 20 years before moving to Texas I preached revival meetings. For most of those years I carried a copy of the following song in my Bible. While waiting to preach I would often read this song to myself. I did so because I didn’t want any unconfessed sin in my heart that would hinder me. Here’s the song, written by James E. Orr in 1936
- “Search me, O God, and know my heart today,
Try me, O Savior, know my thoughts, I pray;
See if there be some wicked way in me;
Cleanse me from every sin, and set me free. - I praise Thee, Lord, for cleansing me from sin;
Fulfill Thy word and make me pure within;
Fill me with fire, where once I burned with shame;
Grant my desire to magnify Thy name. - Lord, take my life, and make it wholly Thine;
Fill my poor heart with Thy great love divine;
Take all my will, my passion, self and pride;
I now surrender, Lord, in me abide. - O Holy Ghost, revival comes from Thee;
Send a revival, start the work in me;
Thy Word declares Thou wilt supply our need;
For blessings now, O Lord, I humbly plead.”
That song blesses me because it reminds me that I don’t always know myself as well as I think I do. I need God’s help to see what He sees in my heart. Thinking all is well doesn’t mean it is.
There is an old song that says, “You got to get down on your knees to find out where you stand”. That’s good advice. We ought to do that everyday. Being comes before doing, so to become the person I ought to be I need to recognize and repent of my sins. Perhaps this would be a good time for you to get down on your knees. Think about it! HDS
The best way to stay on your feet is to get down on your knees.
