THE PERFECTION OF THE BIBLE

July 7, 2017 By Pastor David Stone

“Every word of God is pure…“– Proverbs 30:5

When you watch a play, read books, take in a movie, or even converse with friends, you must have the filter on. Is this worldview right? Are these ideas true? Is this lesson correct? Is the moral of this story actually moral?

But when we come to the Word of God, all the filters must come off. The reason why is that there is no filter—our own ideals, the best philosophies, the most scientific theories—that is as pure as the Word of God itself. If we filter the words of God through our own understanding, then we contaminate, rather than purify, the ideas which are conveyed.

Every word of God is pure. There is not a drop of foolishness in the ocean of God’s revelation. There is not a single falsehood within the many pages of the Bible. Every word of God is trustworthy because every word of God is true.

How do you read your Bible? Do you read it with the filter of your own wisdom, desires, and preconceptions? Or are you allowing the unadulterated word of God to wash over your receptive soul, cleansing it of every prejudice, personal ambition, and sinful ideology?

God’s Word should be a set of glasses through which we view all the rest of the world — music, psychology, biology, journalism, business practices, college lectures, or retirement plans. Anything else is just one fallen head influencing another fallen head. (Baptist Bible Hour)

NO FAULT IN JESUS

July 6, 2017 By Pastor David Stone

“And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this fellow perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, saying that he himself is Christ a King. And Pilate asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answered him and said, Thou sayest it. Then said Pilate to the chief priests and to the people, I find no fault in this man.”–Luke 23:2–4

Dr. W. A. Criswell began his ministry in a small town in Oklahoma. He would often preach on Saturdays to the crowds gathered at the farmer’s market or at the courthouse. One day as he preached, Criswell asked the people why they were not attending church. He later said, “That was a rhetorical, question, and then I added, ‘If you can give any good reason why you separate yourself from the people of God and why you don’t go to church, come up here and tell us why don’t you go.’” To his shock, person after person began to line up and pour out their complaints about what they had experienced in churches.

Criswell said that he went home weeping. He was filled with sorrow at what he had witnessed. Then He said that as he thought about it and prayed, he realized something important. “They had much to say against the preacher, much to say against the deacon, much to say against the church, much to say against the people, but I happened finally to realize not one, not one in all of that throng, not one ever said a word against the Lord Jesus Christ—I find in Him no fault at all.”

We have a perfect Saviour. Only a sinless, spotless Lamb could be the sacrifice for the sins of the world, for otherwise Jesus would have had to pay for His own sins rather than ours. No matter how He is examined, no one ever finds fault with Jesus.

Give thanks today for the flawless Saviour who gave His life as ransom for your sins._(Daily in the Word)

Happy Independence “Through Guns” Day!

July 5, 2017 By Pastor David Stone

I suspect very few people thought of this on Independence Day. The following was written by Larry Pratt, Executive Director Emeritus of GOA.

Happy Independence “Through Guns” Day!

It’s an inconvenient truth — for the Left.

But when we celebrate the independence of our great country tomorrow — the greatest, most powerful, and, generally speaking, the most beneficent nation in the history of the Earth — what we are celebrating is the use of guns to defeat tyranny.  Period.

When the British marched toward Concord on April 19, 1775, they weren’t trying to shut down a newspaper.

They weren’t marching to stop a peace rally.

They weren’t moving to shut down a college.

The British intended to seize an arsenal of guns, ammunition, and explosives located at Concord, Massachusetts.

And the bad-guys-with-guns, the British, were blocked from doing this only by good-guys-with-guns on the road to Concord.

Thus, although the American Revolution was spurred by revolutionary ideas and great thinkers, it was fought out in one gun battle after another — led by a man who became known as the “Father of our Country,” initially as a military strategist and commander of an armed militia.

Had our Forefathers not fought for our liberties with guns, the ideas would have eventually become irrelevant. No doubt, this is why we celebrate the day with explosives, rather than throwing powder puffs.

So we remember these brave men and women tomorrow.

The signers of the Declaration of Independence pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor.  They put it all on the line.

And so we honor those who fought in the Revolution and in each war since then.

Now, as ever, the only way to deter evil-guys-with-guns is through good-guys-with-guns.

So Happy Independence “Through Guns” Day!

Sincerely,

Larry Pratt

HOPE FOR THE HELPLESS

July 5, 2017 By Pastor David Stone

“According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.”— 2 Peter 1:3-4

I’ve noticed that the older we get, if there is one thing we despise it is conflict, and if there is one thing we desire it is comfort. And that is evidence that life is tough. It’s that fact that prompted the song writer to express his longing for “heaven and home”. If trials do nothing else they make us “homesick for heaven” and give us a “longing to go”. No Christian in his right mind would choose to remain here for eternity and miss all that heaven holds. But until that glorious day comes, we go from one struggle to another–finding ourselves in constant need of help.

As long as we are in this world there will be conflicts and a need for comfort. Since there is no escape from troubles and trials we must endure them–and we need more help than others are able to give. Fortunately “the God of all comfort” (2 Cor. 1:3) has given us “exceeding great and precious promises”( 2 Pet. 1:4), one of which is “I will never leave thee, nor for sake thee” (Heb. 13:5). There is never a moment when we are without divine aid from the One who is “able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think” (Eph. 3:20). The arm that can never be broken is underneath us (Deut. 33:27) to keep us from falling. He protects, provides and enables us to bear fruit in our old age (Psa. 92:12-14).

Regardless of how difficult life is, we never have reason to despair. Although we get older and life gets more difficult God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. And His power has not diminished one bit. To stay the course start every day by reading some of God’s promises. Here is a good one, regardless of your age–“And even to your old age I am he; and even to hoar hairs will I carry you: I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you.”–Isa. 46:4—HDS

WHAT’S WRONG WITH AMERICA?

July 4, 2017 By Pastor David Stone

While there is much that could be said about what’s right with America it is also a fair question to ask “What’s wrong with America?” However, the fact that people have to ask that question tells you what’s wrong with America. Anyone who can’t see what’s wrong with our nation is what’s wrong with America. And one of the saddest things is that many of those who don’t know what’s wrong are government leaders. Some of the most inept people are those in high places, formulating laws and policies, etc. They are in a position of leadership but they don’t have a clue as to what is truly at the root of our problems, nor any idea how to fix them. They are the blind leading the blind. It’s not hard to foresee what might happen.

When a ship breaks away from its mooring it is at the mercy of the sea and that is a terribly dangerous place to be. And it is easy for any Bible believer to see what’s wrong with America. We have listened to lies and turned from the truth, and gone every man to his own way as in the days of the Judges. Is it any wonder we are where we are? But for the grace of God it would be a lot worse.

Inquire about what’s wrong with America and you will get a wide variety of answers– different responses from different people. You will receive answers that are diametrically opposed to one another. In regards to politics we might put people in one of two camps– liberals and conservatives, but it is more complicated than that. There are people on both sides of the issue who are blind to the truth because they see no sure standard of right and wrong. Having cast aside the Word of God as our guide the door is open for every weird idea and theory under the sun.

What’s wrong with America will never be solved until we get back to the things that made America great in the first place–knowing, trusting and obeying God. John Quincy Adams hit the nail on the head when he said on July 4, 1821, “The highest glory of the American Revolution was this, it connected in one indissoluble bond, principles of civil government with the principles of Christianity”. That dear friend is a foundation that stands secure! —HDS, 7/4/17
