GOD HAS ORDAINED HUMAN GOVERNMENT

July 4, 2014 By Pastor David Stone

“And He changeth the times and the seasons; He removeth kings and raiseth up kings….” – Daniel 2:21

What does the Word of God have to say about government?  It teaches that God has ordained human government. The prophet Daniel said that God is the one who removes kings and God is the one who sets up kings. And Romans13 teaches that the powers that be are ordained of God.

What about wicked governments? Did God set them up? It may surprise you to learn, yes, He did. That does not mean they are God’s will. God would much rather have righteousness. But by and large people get the kind of government they deserve. Wicked leaders are God’s reward for a wicked people.

What are we to do as a church? What is my responsibility so far as government is concerned? First of all, we are to pray for our government. We need to pray for leaders even if they are wrong“For this is good and acceptable and right in the sight of God our Savior” (1 Timothy 2:3).I am calling upon you to confess your sins personally and our sins nationally. And I am calling upon you to pray for America as Daniel prayed for his people—in the power of the shed blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It is prayer time in America.–Adrian Rogers

WHO APPRECIATES OBAMA?

May 15, 2010 By Pastor David Stone

I saw the headline and it immediately caught my attention–“It Takes Graduate Schooling to Appreciate Obama.”! I wish I had the talent and the time to give this the attention it deserves. And believe me, I have to restraint myself from using some crude language to express the way I feel about it.

The article says that the polls reveal that “only among people with experience in graduate school does his rating top 50 percent—Among Americans who attended post-graduate school, Obama’s approval rating was 63 percent in the week that ended on May 8. His approval rating was only 47 percent among those with a high school diploma or less. And it was 48 percent among those with a college diploma who did not attend graduate school.”

Although I am saddened that his approval rating isn’t worse (what more does he have to do to fall out of favor?), I am not surprised that those who were indoctinated in these liberal schools would support him. They have been a breeding ground for everything that is anti-American for years.

You can bet that someone in the eliteist camp wanted this information made public knowledge. They are the ones who ignore what the majority of Americans want and who keep pushing the idea that we just don’t know what is best for us. In their flawed reasoning we ought to support Obama because he is so much smarter than we are. Sadly, they have persuaded many to take that stance.

The truth is, any God-fearing person of average intelligence who loves America could do a better job than Obama. He and his followers have an agenda to destroy what we call “the American way of life” and they are well on their way to doing that if we don’t wake-up and speak-up. Having a half-dozen degrees from a university doesn’t make you an expert–it might, in fact, keep you from becoming one. What we need is commonsense, but that seems to be in short supply among our current leaders.

Greg Evensen, a former Kansas State Trooper, said it well when he wrote these words:
Jesus said it best. “Forgive them Father, for they know NOT what they do.” It is truer now than it was at that wretched, yet blessed moment at Calvary.

It matters very little what we say or do about trying to defend the republic any longer. If there are enough souls left to “gather at the river” then they should be about doing repentance and preparing to give an account for what they have done. For some of us, the battle will go on to bail enough water to right the ship and work for a renewed nation built on truth, real justice, and goals worthy of a free people.

The lines of battle are so clearly drawn. Either you will join and fight for victory over the lies, distortions and vile agendas in Washington as our founders did against British tyranny while relative peace remains, or you will submit —– Act now to change our destiny or just simply wait. Despise me if you will for telling you this, but that is your future. Choose wisely…..your life and your children’s future depends on what you do.

COMFORT

July 3, 2014 By Pastor David Stone

Be of good comfort…and the God of love and peace shall be with you– 2 Corinthians 13:11

This admonition and promise, at first glance, seem to be backwards. It seems as though Paul should first give the promise of God’s presence with us, followed by the admonition to therefore be comforted. But he doesn’t.

Paul actually says for us to be comforted and then promises – subsequently – that the God of love and peace will be with us. The clear implication is that the love and peace of God will only be felt by us after we follow the admonition to “be of good comfort.” Why?

The fact is that Paul is exhorting us to be comforted. We are to allow the transcendent promises of God to flood our hearts; we are commanded to receive the marvelous truths of the gospel and hold on to them and believe them. It is only when we allow ourselves to be comforted, when we give in to the reality of goodness and joy and pleasure in all that God promises to us and purposes for us — it is only then that we can feel the love and peace of God with us. It cannot be in any other order!

We may often wonder why God has not sent comfort our way, why we do not feel the presence of God with us. But the truth is that God has sent countless comforts our way, in His Word, but we have not believed them, have not received them, have not allowed them to infiltrate our doubting and discouraged and deflated hearts.

It is only when we allow ourselves to be comforted by the truth of all that God has promised us that we will then feel the love and peace of God with us. So, believer, be comforted.(B.B.H.)

NO EXPERIENCE NEEDED

May 12, 2010 By Pastor David Stone

I find it amazing that so many Americans do not value experience when it comes to putting people in positions of leadership. Proof in point–our nation elected a “community organizer” to serve as the President of our nation, the most powerful nation on earth! If that wasn’t bad enough, think about this–only 8% of the president’s cabinet has ever worked in the private business sector prior to their appointment, by far the worst percentage ever. In other words, the people running our nation have no experience in real life business. It’s no wonder that we’re in such a mess–our leaders are out of touch with the common-man and have no experience at what they are doing.

Now the president has nominated Elena Kagan to the Supreme Court. This woman has absolutely no judicial experience and has never litigated a case to verdict or trial! How crazy is that? As you might suspect, she is a strong supporter of abortion, homosexuality, “hate crime” laws, etc. She is also anti- military and tried to ban the military from college campuses.

There is much more that could be said, but if the actions of Obama to date doesn’t change the way people view him nothing will. That’s the scary part–I don’t hear many of his supporters admitting that they made a big mistake. I just don’t get it, the same people who insist that their doctor have training and experience, and insist that their pastor is “not a novice” put the reins of national leadership in the hands of people who have no idea what needs to be done. Think about it and speak up!

HOPE OF A HAPPY NATION

July 2, 2014 By Pastor David Stone

“The LORD bringeth the counsel of the heathen to nought: he maketh the devices of the people of none effect. The counsel of the LORD standeth for ever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations. Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.”–Psalm 33:10–12

In his farewell letter to the Continental Army when he resigned his commission in 1783, George Washington wrote: “I now make it my earnest prayer, that God would have you, and the State over which you preside, in His holy protection, that He would incline the hearts of the Citizens to cultivate a spirit of subordination and obedience to Government, to entertain a brotherly affection and love for one another, for their fellow Citizens of the United States at large, and particularly for their brethren who have served in the field, and finally, that he would most graciously be pleased to dispose us all, to do justice, to love mercy, and to demean ourselves with that charity, humility and pacific temper of mind, which were the characteristics of the Divine Author of our blessed religion, and without an humble imitation of whose example in these things, we can never hope to be a happy nation.”

America has a long and rich heritage of Christian faith and principles. We have never been a country where everyone was a believer, but the truths of Scripture were once held in high regard even by most of those who were not Christians. Today that is no longer the case. As we face a culture that glorifies evil and condemns good, we must respond. While we exercise our rights as citizens, we must never lose sight of the fact that our most important contribution to our nation is found in our obedience to Christ and our daily Christian walk.–Daily in the Word
