MORNING MANNA          5-1-24

MORNING MANNA             5-1-24
REJECTING THE CROSS

(“Every Day!” Author unknown, 1872)

“If any man will come after Me–let him deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me!” Matthew 16:24

Our Lord and Savior plainly states that discipleship involves self-denial. He who would tread in the steps of Christ–must be prepared to take up his cross. It was no path of flowery ease that the Savior trod–and anyone who would follow Him must be determined . . .
  to resist self and sin,
to accept the world’s scorn, and
to take up any cross that might lie in the path of obedience and service.

Those who habitually consult their own ease, who indulge sinful self, and will not take up a cross for Christ–are not His true disciples. Rejecting the cross–they will lose the crown!

Surely, the remembrance of the Cross that Jesus bore for us, and on which He bled and died to redeem us from the curse of the law and all the fearful consequences of sin–should lead us cheerfully to take up any cross that we might be called to bear for Him.

Jesus, I my cross have taken,
All to leave and follow Thee.
Destitute, despised, forsaken,
Thou from hence, my all shall be!

Go, then, earthly fame and treasure,
Come disaster, scorn and pain.
In Thy service, pain is pleasure,
With Thy favor, loss is gain!

I have called Thee Abba Father,
I have stayed my heart on Thee.
Storms may howl, and clouds may gather;
All must work for good to me!

Soon shall close my earthly mission,
Soon shall pass my pilgrim days.
Hope shall change to glad fruition,
Faith to sight, and prayer to praise!

MORNING MANNA.         4-30-24

MORNING MANNA          4-30-24
 NONE OTHER

“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved “- Acts 4:12

Considering the seriousness of sin, the reality of hell and at the urgent need for forgiveness, it is crucial that we know the truth regarding salvation.

But where is salvation found? Someone explained it like this,”It is not found even in our repentance or good works, because we could never be good enough to please a perfect God. It is not found in sincerity alone, because many religions and philosophies are sincere and yet diametrically opposed to each other. Where can salvation be found?

It is found only in the perfect person and work of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. By His perfect life, selfless and substitutionary death, and powerful resurrection Jesus proved Himself to be what He claimed to be during His life — the one, true God. Salvation is found in Him alone because He alone is able and willing to save us from our sins.

Have you felt the weight of your sins? Have you been convinced of your inability to find any lasting joy, satisfaction, or forgiveness on your own? Then rush into the arms of the One in Whom salvation is found. There is no other name under heaven, whereby we must be saved, than Jesus Christ. But that name is sufficient to wipe away every sin and to save us completely from our guilt and shame.”- HDS

 PRIDE AND HUMILITY

“ Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.” Prov. 16:5

Scripture warns us of the destructive power of pride, which precedes downfall; while humility is the virtue that leads to exaltation. As we journey through life, we find ourselves engaged in a constant battle between these two forces, wrestling with our own desires for recognition–and the call to walk humbly before our Creator.

Pride, the oldest of sins, whispers seductively in our ears, urging us to exalt ourselves before others, and to seek our own glory rather than God’s.

Pride blinds us to our own faults, and inflates our sense of self-importance.

Pride is the root of conflicts, the cause of strifes, and the barrier to true communion with God and our fellow man. Pride erects walls where there should be bridges–fostering division, rather than unity.

Yet, in the midst of this spiritual warfare, there shines the beacon of humility!

Humility is not weakness, but strength under control. It is the recognition of our true place before God, acknowledging His sovereignty, and our utter dependence upon Him. It is the willingness . . .
  to esteem others above ourselves,
to serve rather than to be served,
to love sacrificially as Christ loved us.

Jesus, the embodiment of humility, demonstrated this virtue in His earthly ministry. Though He was the Son of God–He humbled Himself, taking on the form of a servant, and obediently endured the cross for our sake. His example calls us . . .
  to follow in His footsteps,
  to clothe ourselves with humility,
and to walk humbly before our God.

In the battle against pride, let us arm ourselves with the weapons of humility:
  a contrite heart,
a willingness to submit to God’s will,
and a posture of servanthood towards others.

Let us daily crucify our prideful inclinations, and instead cultivate a spirit of humility–knowing that “… God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.“ James.4:6  – Anonymous

“…. be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.” 1 Pet.5:5“ Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: 1 Pet.5:6.

JUST AS I AM

“—-him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.–“ John 6:37

Physical ailments can really get us down. Sometimes the nicest people in the world can get as cranky as a she bear protecting her cubs–nobody wants to get anywhere near them.

Such was the case with Charlotte Elliott. At the age of thirty her health began to fail and she was soon an invalid. It wasn’t long before her sweet disposition turned sour. With her body racked with pain living became a constant burden.

When a preacher visited Charlotte at her home one evening, she complained–“If God loved me, He would not have treated me this way”

.

The wise preacher responded kindly, but with boldness, “You are tired of yourself, aren’t you?”

“What do you mean?” she asked.

“You are holding to your hate and anger because you have nothing else in the world to cling to”, he said. Then he proceeded to explain God’s grace through Jesus Christ, and told her she could come to Christ just as she was and be saved.

That struck a note. Charlotte was deeply impressed at the thought of coming to Christ just as she was, and she trusted Christ as her Savior later that evening.

Fourteen years later, on the anniversary of her new birth, she penned the words to the famous hymn,”Just As I Am”. She couldn’t forget  the wonderful privilege of being able to come to Christ just as she was.

So can you! That was true then and it’s true now. It was true of Charlotte and it’s true for you. We need not, in fact we cannot make any changes that would make us acceptable to God. We come to Him as we are or not at all. Our only plea and our only hope is the shed blood of Christ, the Lamb of God. Will you come to Him right now–remember, you can come just as you are! – HDS, 9-11-10

 CHRIST

    “Christ is all.”- Col.3:11

Yes: this is God’s purpose, which cannot be frustrated, that Christ shall be all. He is all in our justification and sanctification, for we are justified and sanctified IN HIS NAME.

He is all in our preservation and glorification, for we are kept by His power, and enter heaven through His merits. He should be all in our pursuits, pleasures, hopes, motives, and aims. Many put their comforts in the place of Christ, and then God puts comfort out of their reach; others put their graces in the place of Christ, and then faith, hope, and love, are concealed by a cloud.

There must be nothing between God and us, but Jesus; we must look away from sin, from graces, and from works, and expect to be accepted, blessed, and honoured only in the name and for the honour of Jesus. Christ is our conquering weapon, by which we ovecome our foes; our plea, by which we prevail with God; our righteousness, by which we are justified; and our peace, which supports and comforts us in life and in death.

Christ is all we want, or God can give. He is our sun and shield; our present joy and endless portion. He is our all on earth, He will be our all in heaven.–James Smith, 1840

Saviour! the knowledge of Thy love
into my soul convey;
Thyself bestow! for Thee alone,
My all in all, I pray.

In light of all this think about where we would be without Him!
