MORNING MANNA             9-28-23

MORNING MANNA                  9-28-23

THE POWER OF PRAISE
“The LORD hath been mindful of us: he will bless us ; he will bless the house of Israel; he will bless the house of Aaron.“–Psalm 115:12
“But we will bless the LORD from this time forth and for evermore. Praise the LORD.“–Psalm 115:18

We associate preaching, praying, singing, and giving with serving the Lord, but have you ever thought about praise as a ministry? You should! It certainly is. Read this entire Psalm and you will see that those who without God, who do not know God, will laugh at our calamity and mock our faith in the God they cannot see. It is times like these that call for songs of loudest praise. When others are doubting we need to declare our faith in God and praise is perhaps the best way to do that. When it appears that we have nothing to be thankful for there is great power in praise.

We should do so for two reasons–what He has done and what He shall do. According to vs. 12 faith looks in two directions– to the past and the prospect. Our praise should be prompted by retrospect and prospect. As the Psalmist said, “The LORD hath been mindful of us: he will bless us”. Doing this not only awakens our adversary, it will get God’s attention and bring God’s aid. It will bring blessing to those who are burdened. Let this promise inspire you to hope when your situation seems hopeless–“trust thou in the LORD: he is their help and their shield.“(vs. 9). “Praise the LORD“!—HDS, 6-13-17

LET THERE BE LIGHT

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven”.–Matthew 5:16

A young girl once consulted with her minister. “I cannot stick it out any longer. I am the only Christian in the factory where I work. I get nothing but taunts and sneers. It is more than I can stand. I am going to resign.”

“Will you tell me,” asked the minister, “where lights are placed?”

“What has that to do with it?” the young Christian asked him rather bluntly.

“Never mind,” the minister replied. “Answer my question: ‘Where are lights placed?’ ”

“I suppose in dark places,” she replied.

“Yes, and that is why you have been put in that factory where there is such spiritual darkness and where there is no other Christian to shine for the Lord.”

The young Christian realized for the first time the opportunity that was hers. She felt she could not fail God by allowing her light to go out. She went back to the factory with renewed determination to let her light shine in that dark corner. Before long, she was the means of leading nine other girls to the Light.

Wherever you are, at home, on the job, at school, in the hospital, etc. think about that as your mission field. The whole world lieth in darkness and is in need of light. Let us go and glow with the likeness of Christ and God will use to lead some poor lost soul to Christ. HDS

Beautiful Garments

“Awake, awake; put on thy strength; put on thy beautiful garments”. — Isa 52:1

“It is high time to awake out of sleep: let us cast off the works of darkness; let us put on the armour of light.” — Rom 13:11-12

Put on strength. We have not to purchase it, or generate it by prayers and resolutions, but simply to put it on. As we awake in the early morning hour, and have to pass out into the arena of life, which has so often witnessed failure and defeat, let us put on the strength and might of the living Christ. He waits to strengthen us with all power, according to the riches of His glory. Do not simply pray to be kept and helped, but put on the whole armour of God. “The Lord is the strength of my life, of whom shall I be afraid?”

Put on beautiful garments. The emblem of the life of the Christian soul is that of the bridegroom or the bride decked with jewels; or a garden filled with beautiful flowers (Isa 61:10-11). We are not only to do right things, but we must do them beautifully; not only to speak the truth, but to speak it in love; not only to give to those who need our help, but to do it graciously and joyously. We must cultivate the bloom of the soul, which is made up of compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, generosity. The beauty of the Lord our God must be upon us.

We cannot weave these beautiful robes, or fashion them out of our own nature, but they are all prepared for us in Christ, who is “made unto us Wisdom, and Righteousness, Sanctification, and Redemption.” Let us wake up out of sleep, put off the works of darkness, and put on the Lord Jesus Christ, who is the armour of Light. A Word To The Weak

“And I will strengthen them in the Lord; and they shall walk up and down in his name, saith the Lord.–“Zechariah 10:12

Spurgeon called this,”A solace for sick saints.” Indeed it is. This is a stirring promise of strength. It reminds us that God can remove the the dread and disability of a disease, as well as the illness itself. He can turn our weakness into strength. Notice, however, that this strength is found in the Lord, not in self. Apart from Him we would be as feeble and helpless as little children facing a dreadful beast.

But, also notice that this power enables them to “walk up and down in his name—“. God doesn’t empower us so we can pursue our own selfish desires. We are strengthened by Him that we might live for Him. This precious promise is for those whose purpose is proper and motives are pure. If God has been so gracious as to raise you from your sick bed do not forget that He intends that you “walk up and down in his name.” Live for Him and you will always have something worth living for! Make that your purpose and God will provide the power.–HDS

How Is Your Diet

“-I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.–Job 23:12

I read about a fellow who bought a book on healthy living and set out to live a more healthy lifestyle. Immediately he threw out any food that wasn’t on the designated list. He stopped eating anything green, because he read that they were associated with certain diseases. He rejected anything grown in the ground because he feared that pesticides and other chemicals would affect his health. Although he didn’t have much of a selection he stuck to the rules stipulated in the diet.

In a few weeks the man noticed a drastic drop in his energy level and other health related issues. In a state of confusion he went to the doctor. When the doc asked,”What do you eat each day?”, he explained his new diet. The doctor replied,”You cannot function on little or no food every day. You need food to feed your body.”

The same thing is true spiritually. When you deprive yourself of the nourishment derived from God’s Word your spiritual health will suffer, and that can affect you adversely in every other way. You simply cannot neglect God’s Word and remain spiritually healthy.

So, how is your diet? Do you regularly feed on God’s Word? Do you spend quality time alone with God, drawing upon His strength? If not, why don’t you stop what you’re doing and plan a course of action. Set a time when you be alone and prayerfully consider what portion of God’s Word you will study. Then stick with it. You will be glad you did! – HDS
