MORNING MANNA              11-30-25

November 30, 2025 By Pastor David Stone

MORNING MANNA                   11-30-25
“THANKS”
“Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, And make a joyful noise unto him with psalms.”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭95‬:‭2‬ ‭

Came across a story about a best selling author, Rudyard Kipling. After his best selling era someone calculated that he made on hundred dollars for every word he wrote. This was one hundred years ago!

He was later interviewed and the reporter pulled out a one hundred dollar bill and said, “Give me a one hundred dollar word.” With a twinkle in his eyes, Rudyard Kipling replied, “Thanks!”

What an important, valuable word it is. May we genuinely express it from a sincere experience of it!

THANKFUL FOR PROVISION

I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made Heaven and earth, Psalms 121:1-2.

“The hills” provided grass for the sheep in warm seasons and in the cold seasons the snow would become water as it melted and flowed downhill filling the streams and small bodies of water. We don’t get our help from the hills, but we look to them because of the creator of the hills. When we put Him in first place in our lives, we will always find provision.

A story has been told which well illustrates God’s ability to provide right on time!

Charles Spurgeon told this story of his grandfather James and his faith in God. “He had a large family and a very small income, but he loved his Lord, and he would not have given up his preaching of the gospel for anything.” One day the cow on which the family relied for milk for the children suddenly died. James Spurgeon’s wife was greatly concerned, but he said, “God said He would provide, and I believe He could send us fifty cows if He pleased.”

On that same day, a group met in London—a group James Spurgeon did not know—that wanted to help meet the needs of poor pastors. They raised a large sum of money, and began sending it to different pastors in need to help their families. When they reached the end of the list, there were still five pounds left. One man suggested sending it to James Spurgeon. Another said, “No, let’s not send just five pounds. Let me add five more to go with it.” Others joined in, and the day after his cow died, James Spurgeon received twenty pounds in the mail!

I reckon we all had a warm meal yesterday and woke up in a warm bed this morning. Let us thank Him for his provision!

GIVING THANKS
“giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;” ‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭5‬:‭20‬ ‭

An old-timer brought to prayer meeting copies of a hymn to sing which is no longer in recent hymn books.  Many may remember:

Thanks to God for my Redeemer,  Thanks for all Thou dost provide!  Thanks for times now but a mem’ry,   Thanks for Jesus by my side!   Thanks for pleasant, balmy springtime,   Thanks for dark and dreary fall!   Thanks for tears by now forgotten,   Thanks for peace within my soul!     Thanks for prayers that Thou hast answered,   Thanks for what Thou dost deny!   Thanks for storms that I have weathered,   Thanks for all Thou dost supply!   Thanks for pain, and thanks for pleasure,   Thanks for comfort in despair!   Thanks for grace that none can measure,   Thanks for love beyond compare!     Thanks for roses by the wayside,   Thanks for thorns their stems contain!   Thanks for home and thanks for fireside,  Thanks for hope, that sweet refrain!   Thanks for joy and thanks for sorrow,   Thanks for heav’nly peace with Thee!  Thanks for hope in the tomorrow,   Thanks for all eternity!     (– J. Hultman) – Source unknown

GIVE THANKS IN THE BATTLE

“Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for the LORD will be with you. And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell before the LORD, worshipping the LORD. And the Levites, of the children of the Kohathites, and of the children of the Korhites, stood up to praise the LORD God of Israel with a loud voice on high. And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.”
‭‭2 Chronicles‬ ‭20‬:‭17‬-‭20‬ ‭

For some, circumstances seem to not be ideal as Thanksgiving Day is approaching. There is a battle going on and you think it’s going to ruin Thanksgiving. Have you ever thought that our battles give us a reason to give thanks?

Praise God with a grateful heart, because the battle is His, not yours. Your part is actually just to give Him thanks. We will not see the victory until we first offer thanks to Him. Sing to Him with a thankful heart, not after the battle, but during. He is bigger than our problem. So, without knowing what the Lord will do, while unaware of the outcome, offer Thanksgiving to God. He is always worthy of our praise!

Your problem is not an obstacle this Thanksgiving, but an opportunity!

“Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah. He that is our God is the God of salvation “ Psalm 68:19

I read a beautiful true story from a missionary who was working in a leper colony. During a worship service, he asked if anyone had a favorite song. He said that a woman stood who had the most disfigured face he had ever seen. She had no ears, and most of her nose and lips were gone as well. But she raised her fingerless hand and asked, “Can we sing ‘Count Your Blessings’”?

The ingratitude of the society around us has sadly infected God’s people as well. We have so much for which to be thankful, yet far too often we spend our time complaining about what we think we should have rather than rejoicing in the many undeserved blessings and benefits we have received. God does not owe us anything. Every good gift that comes from His hand is the result of His grace, not our merit.

There are few sins more damaging to our Christian life than ingratitude. Someone said, “If you woke up tomorrow with only those things for which you gave thanks today, what would you have left?” The benefits we receive from God deserve our sincere and continued praise. And because they come day after day, our thanksgiving should rise to Him day after day. The realization that it is God’s goodness that is at the root of our blessing should make us love Him even more.

If we are not thankful for the many blessings we have received, we will not love God as we should.

Considering how good we have it and how bad it could be should cause us to thank God with never ending praise. Such testimony can cause others to see that with God there is hope for every hardship.- HDS
