MORNING MANNA         7-19-22

MORNING MANNA            7-19-22

A Fabulous Future

 “blessed hope“(Titus 2:13)
We live in a day when we are constantly bombarded with bad news and negative issues. It wears on you! Many are so fearful and discouraged that although they live in the lap of luxury they don’t enjoy it. If that describes your disposition you need to do as Paul commands in 1 Thessalonians 4:18,”Wherefore comfort one another with these words.” To do that you must consider what he said in the previous verses regarding the return of the Lord, the resurrection of the dead in Christ, and the rapture of the saints. That describes the believers “blessed hope”(Titus 2:13) and it gives us reason to rejoice! But, notice that we are not to just seek comfort for ourselves, we are to “comfort one another”. It is through comforting others with these glorious truths that we find the most comfort for ourselves. The person who seeks to be a blessing is always blessed himself.

We need the attitude of D.L. Moody. A little girl had heard someone talking about the end of the world and she was greatly troubled. Seeing tears in her eyes, Mr. Moody asked what was wrong. When the little girl said, “The world is coming to an end”. The wise old preacher said,”Don’t worry honey, we can get along just fine without it”. Indeed we can ,if we know Christ as our Savior. Regardless of the wretched conditions on earth we have a fabulous future. One glorious day Christ will return and we shall be “caught up” to meet the Lord in the air! We will be reunited with the saints that have gone before, relieved of our heavy burdens, and rewarded for the deeds we’ve done. It doesn’t get any better than that! As the old song says,”What a day that will be”. Cheer up weary pilgrim you’re not home yet. And, until we finally reach our homeland, we have the aid of the Holy Spirit to sustain us.Remember, “–weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.“(Psalms 30:5).–HDS, 2/12/11

HAVE YOU OPENED IT?

“But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”– Matt. 4:4

Pastor Tom Goodman made a great observation when he said: “In the film Castaway, Tom Hanks played the lone survivor of a FedEx jet crash marooned on a deserted island in the south Pacific.  A few packages from the jet washed up on the shore with the castaway, and he opened them in hopes of finding something that would help him survive.  When he came to the last package, though, he chose to keep it intact.  His determination to eventually deliver that package to its owner was his thin connection to the hope of rescue.  In fact, the film ended with the delivered castaway delivering that package to its recipient five years later.

During Super Bowl XXXVII, FedEx ran a commercial that spoofed the movie.  In the send-up, after the FedEx employee delivered the package he had protected for so long, curiosity got the best of him.  “Excuse me,” he asked the recipient, “what was in that package after all?”

She opened it and showed him the contents, saying, “Oh, nothing really.  Just a satellite telephone, a global positioning device, a compass, a water purifier, and some seeds.”

No doubt those things would have come in handy for a man stranded on a deserted island!

The Bible is also something filled with good things that we miss if we neglect to open it.  Many will neglect to open it because they have suspicions about its dependability.  They’ve read or heard enough skeptical reports to doubt that the New Testament takes us right back to the actual words and actions of Jesus.”

Some people are Bible believers only to the extent that it says something they want to believe or do. They reject what they resent– which is just about everything that isn’t fun and easy.- HDS

THE RICHES OF GRACE

“To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;” – Eph. 1:6-7

I once heard a story about a man in Europe in the early years of the 20th Century who dreamed of emigrating to America so he could start a new life. He scrimped and saved every penny he earned until he had enough money to book passage on a passenger ship to New York City. As the day of his departure approached, he packed all his belongings into a tattered bag. With the little money he had left, he bought some cheese and a few crackers for the voyage. As the ship departed, the man was excited, but after a couple of days, the cheese had become moldy and the crackers were soggy. As he walked the deck of the passenger ship he gazed into the portholes to see happy people in the dining room eating sumptuous meals, and that only made his hunger pangs sharper. Another few days passed, and his hunger only intensified. It was torture to walk by the dining room and see and smell the delicious food being enjoyed by the other passengers.

Finally, on the last day before the ship docked, he was so famished he approached a steward and said, “Please sir. I’m starving, but I don’t have any money. If you’ll just give me some food, I’ll be glad to wash dishes or do any other chore to pay for some food.” The steward said, “Let me see your ticket.” After examining the ticket, the steward said, “Sir, this ticket includes all your meals. You could have been eating every meal here in the dining room.” While that man had been suffering, he didn’t realize all that food he had seen had been available to him. Ephesians 1:7 speaks of the riches of God’s grace. All those riches are available to you now, if you’ll claim them.

A child of God in the will of God can claim the wonderful promise in Phil. 4:19, “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” – HDS

AND FORSAKETH

“He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.”- Proverbs 28:13

“If we confess our sins” – sins of omission, the things we should do but are not doing; sins of commission, the things we should not do but are doing; sins of disposition, sins of the spirit, so often overlooked in our emphasis on sins of the body; and doubtful things. “Whatsoever is not of faith is sin.”

Confession should be accompanied by renunciation – “and forsaketh them.” “If my people shall …turn from their wicked ways.” Someone has said, “We cannot expect God to take away our sins by forgiving them if we will not put them away by forsaking them.” All too often there is a cheap and easy confession of sin:( Which says) “We have done many things we should not have done, and have left undone many things which we should have done.” Who hasn’t? such confession does not forsake sin and turn from wicked ways.

Have you made a clean break with your sins and burned the bridges behind you?- Vance Havner

THE MYSTERY OF THE MORROW
“...ye know not.. “James 4:14

We are all prone to want things we would be better off without. Fortunately God sees our folly, knows what is best, and refuses to grant our request. For example, I suspect just about everyone, at some time, has wished they could see the future. Just think about all the bad things we could avoid if we knew what was around the corner. Or, think about all the money we could make through investments if we knew what the market was going to do. Some of us are thinking about how rich we would be had we known how valuable those old base-ball cards would be today.

But there are very good reasons why God doesn’t allow us to see the future. John MacDuff wrote, “There is no more gracious provision for our happiness, than what is contained in that brief saying of Scripture, ‘Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow’.” He might have been right. If we foresaw all the suffering and sorrow that we would have to face we would be miserable. Joy would take wings and fly, tears would fall, and depression would swallow us up–life would be dreadful. Not knowing the future shields us from torment and enables us to enjoy the moment.

Believe me, life is tough and you don’t really want to know what lies ahead. This will be the last day on earth for some dear souls. For others there will be dreadful disappointment and awful anguish before the sun sets tonight. Some are only minutes away from the news that tragedy has struck and their life will forever be changed. Make no mistake about it—trouble will come and life will end. It’s just a matter of time. We can thank God that the time is unknown. Until then let us carry on with joy, focus on our blessings, be faithful to our duties, and have faith that God will meet our needs as they arise. Rather than fret about what we don’t know, be thrilled that God has promised His grace to be sufficient. He cannot lie. As much as you might want to see the future it is a great blessing that you can’t. This might be a good time to think about that old song that says, “I know who holds tomorrow“– That’s good enough for me!—HDS

“I don’t know about tomorrow
I just live for day to day
I don’t borrow from the sunshine
For it’s skies may turn to gray
I don’t worry o’er the future
For I know what Jesus said
And today I’ll walk beside Him
For He knows what lies ahead
Many things about tomorrow
I don’t seem to understand
But I know who holds tomorrow

And I know who holds my hand”
