MORNING MANNA            6-4-22

MORNING MANNA            6-4-22

One Day at a Time!

“…. as thy days, so shall thy strength be.” Deut. 33:25

For many years I have carried a copy of this poem in my Bible and have given away numerous copies to others. Hopefully it will be a blessing to you today.

One day at a time, with its failures and fears,
With its hurts and mistakes, with its weakness and tears,
With its portion of pain, and its burden of care;
One day at a time, we must meet and must bear.

One day at a time, to be patient and strong,
To be calm under trial, and sweet under wrong;
Then its toiling shall pass, and its sorrow shall cease;
It shall darken and die, and the night shall bring peace.

One day at a time — but the day is so long,
And the heart is not brave, and the soul is not strong,
O piteous Christ, be near all the way;
Give courage and patience, and strength for the day.

Swift comes His answer, so clear and so sweet;
“Yes, I’ll be with you, your troubles to meet;
I will not forget you, nor fail you, nor grieve;
I will not forsake you; I never will leave.”

Not yesterday’s load, we are called on to bear,
Nor the morrow’s uncertain and shadowy care;
Why should we look forward, or back with dismay?
Our needs, as our mercies, are but for the day.

One day at a time, and the day is

His day;
He has numbered its hours, though they haste or delay.
His grace is sufficient, we walk not alone;
As the day, so the strength that He gives His own.

HRACE

“The exceeding riches of His grace.” Eph. 2:7

JEHOVAH glories in His grace. It is His riches, His wealth. All its riches is intended for us, to be expended upon us. They are all treasured up in Jesus to be received by us. They are promised and presented to us. They exceed our thoughts, our expectations, our faith, we do not believe that God has provided and promised so much for our good as He has; and therefore we do not ask for, and expect so much. Let us this day think of ” THE EXCEEDING RICHES OF GRACE.” Jesus was the gift of grace, so was the Holy Spirit, and so are all spiritual blessings. Grace includes, and is the source from which flows all the church has received, is receiving, and will receive throughout eternity. Grace freely gives, but never sells. It has a bountiful eye, a tender heart, and a liberal hand. We are not straitened in God, but in our hearts. Oh, that we did but believe what God has revealed in reference to the riches of grace, and expect to receive according to His most liberal promises! There is an abundance of grace, and it is for us; for us this morning, for us whenever we apply. Let us therefore have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably, with reverence and godly fear.- James Smith, 1840

Amazing grace! how sweet the sound!

That saved a wretch like me!

I once was lost, but now am found;

Was blind, but now I see.

LIGHTS IN A DARK WORLD

“Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”- Matthew 5:14–16

God does not have in mind His children blending in with their surroundings. We are meant to stand out as a witness to the world. Too many of God’s children have, like a chameleon, adapted to their surroundings in such a way that they are no longer visible. This defense mechanism is effective for animals but damaging to believers and to God’s work. The desire to fit in and be accepted, the fear of criticism or persecution, and the temptation to avoid conflict, often lead those who should be the brightest testimonies of grace and the Gospel to instead hide their lights from view.

D. L. Moody said, “A holy life will make the deepest impression. Lighthouses blow no horns, they just shine.” If the way in which we live reflects the glory and grace of God, we will not need to make loud pronouncements of our faith—it will be evident. The best witness is that which comes when our lives and words match and we are glorifying our heavenly Father.

If we are faithful to follow God’s Word, do what is right and good, and share His plan of salvation, we will have an impact on our world. When the darkness is greatest, even small lights shine brightly. We do not have to be the largest or brightest lights that shine—merely faithful. Take your light out of hiding and make sure everyone who sees your life knows from your actions that you are God’s child. God placed His light within you so you will hold it high to give hope to a dark and needy world. (Paul Chappell}

GRACE FOR THE DAY

“And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.”2 Cor. 12:9–10

Grace is absolutely essential for our salvation—we have no hope without it. Yet grace goes far beyond the moment of our conversion. Grace is a daily necessity of the Christian life. We cannot live as God intends for us to live in our own strength and ability. Each day we need a new supply of grace, just as the children of Israel had to go out six mornings a week to gather manna in the wilderness. They could not save any for the next day except on Friday so that they would not work on the Sabbath. God could have given them a supply for months or even years, but instead He required them to rely on His provision day by day.

D. L. Moody said, “A man can no more take in a supply of grace for the future than he can eat enough for the next six months, or take sufficient air into his lungs at one time to sustain life for a week. We must draw upon God’s boundless store of grace from day to day as we need it.” The Lord wants us to remain dependent on Him rather than trust our own resources. This is the reason the model prayer Jesus gave us instructs us to ask for “our daily bread.” Could God immediately meet every need we will have for the rest of our lives? Of course. But if He were to do so, we would quickly forget His grace and goodness, as the Israelites did so many times. No Christian who humbly seeks the grace of God will ever be turned away. – Copied

SUFFICIENT SUPPLIES

But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.–Matthew 6:33

The famous missionary, Hudson Taylor wrote in his journel: “Our heavenly Father is a very experienced One. He knows very well that His children wake up with a good appetite every morning… He sustained 3 million Israelites in the wilderness for 40 years. We do not expect He will send 3 million missionaries to China; but if He did, He would have ample means to sustain them all… Depend on it, God’s work done in God’s way will never lack God’s supply.”

Perhaps you woke-up this morning worried about your bills and wondering how you’re going to keep your head above the water. Please consider God’s command–“seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness” and focus on His promise–“all these things shall be added unto you.” And remember–God cannot lie!

Doing God’s will isn’t always easy, but it always pays off in a big way. It wasn’t easy for Abraham to obey God when he was told to sacrifice his only son, yet he obeyed and discovered that the Lord will provide. He will do the same for you. If God takes care of the flowers in the field and the fowls that fly, surely He will provide for His own family–“for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things—-Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficent unto the day is the evil thereof.”(Matthew 6:32,34).  Thank God for what you have, you don’t deserve it, and trust Him for what you need–“all these things shall be added unto you.”- David Stone
