MOTHERS

“ Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.”- Ex. 20:12

Thursday evening all five of our daughters were together. They met with us to honor their mother and it was an evening I’ll never forget. It could be the last time it ever happens- who knows. With that in mind it was all the more special. The fact is, you never know when it will be the last time you see your mother, so make it special. She deserves the utmost respect.
Someone said, “A mother’s lap is the best place form which to launch a life”. That is so true. Birth is just the beginning and what happens after that is determined by many factors, non of which are as important as the mother’s ministry. There is simply no way to describe the importance of godly mothers.

Charles Spurgeon once said of his mother, “I cannot tell how much I owe to the prayers of my good mother. I remember her once praying, ‘Now Lord, if my children go on in sin it will not be from ignorance that they perish, and my soul must bear swift witness against them at the day of judgment if they lay not hold on Christ and claim Him as their personal Savior.’” Obviously that was a woman who did her job well.

As we celebrate and honor our mothers today, we need to consider the importance of mothers in a child’s life. Mothers are an important part of every child’s life. While a child needs the protection and provision of a father, they also need the loving compassion of a mother–no one can take her place! Mothers often have greater impacts on their children than any other person. The godly mother deserves all the honor and praise that we can give her.It is my heart-felt prayer that each mother will have a most blessed Mother’s Day. God bless you!Yours in Christ, Bro. Stone

REJOICE
“Rejoice in the Lord alway, and again I say, rejoice”- Phil. 4:4

I just read another devotion on this verse. I say another because I can’t seem to resist articles on this subject. This one was written by J. R. Miller, but it could have been Donald Duck and I probably would have read it.

I wish every Christian really understood how important this is. And I love the way Miller began. He said, “The Bible insists upon joy as an element of Christian life”. I believe that’s an undeniable fact. It seems strange to me that most Christians don’t see it that way. Most seem to think that joy is nice but not necessary. They act as though it is no big deal if you don’t have it – and certainly none of the preachers business. But they are very wrong.

While I could say many things about the seriousness of this subject I’ll mention just one. Neh. 8:10 says, “the joy of the Lord is your strength”. That implies that if we lack joy we lack strength – we will be a weak. And that’s dangerous! Without strength we cannot resist temptation, endure trials, nor bear an effective testimony for Christ. It can even affect your health. What more do you need to see that your absence of joy is cause for concern? Everyone says they want to be joyful, but some refuse to do anything to secure it. It’s as though they would rather live in misery than make things right with God.

As much as it grieves me to see people living without joy there’s no way it can be forced upon them. It is their choice. If you are a child of God you have the potential for joy unspeakable and full of glory. If you will turn to the Word of God and trust the will and wisdom of God such joy can be yours. Psa. 107:20 says, “He sent his word and healed them, And delivered them from their destruction”. Please know that you can too can rejoice in the Lord regardless of your circumstances. Instead of giving up hope, give in to whatever God wants and He will produce what’s missing. Gal. 5:22 says, “the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy,…” If you yield yourself to the Holy Spirit you can “rejoice alway”. – HDS

DO YOU CARE?

“ And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.”- Acts 5:42

James and his wife were at church one Sunday when they noticed a new couple sitting not far away from them. So after the service, they walked up and greeted them. The new couple asked where they lived, so James described his neighborhood and talked about how nice it was.

The same question was asked to the new couple, who lamented about where they were living. They said that in the few weeks since they moved in, not one of their neighbors had stopped by to say hello.

The two couples parted, got in their cars, and drove home. As James and his wife were pulling into their driveway, they were horrified to see the new couple… pulling into the driveway just next to theirs.

This sad story could be repeated in cities and towns all across our country today. That’s because many people simply refuse to take the time to get to know the people who are living right around them.

So wherever you live today, be it a house, community living, or any other situation, make an effort to get to know those who are living right around you. Build relationships and watch as God uses you to share His truth with others.

Ask God to show you people who are around you today with whom you can begin building relationships.( Copied)

HONORING GOD

“ And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth. ”- Luke 11:2

I don’t have time to tell the whole story but about March of 2020 I became more aware of the need to order my prayer after the pattern set by our Lord than ever before. Although I had taught it numerous times, the importance of this had never impacted me as it did that day, and everyday since. That’s why I was so blessed when I read this following article by F. B. Meyer yesterday. I hope it blesses you as well.

God’s name is His Nature—His attributes, the various qualities that go to make Him what He is. When we ask for it to be hallowed, we ask that all which obscures it should be swept away as mists before the dawn. We thank God for all that is known of His wonderful Being, for the message of Nature, for revelation given to seers and prophets, for the Word who came from Him, and for the Holy Spirit who reveals Him. But there are still vast unexplored tracks in God’s Being of which we know nothing, and there are myriads that know still less than we do. By their sinful ignorance and superstition, men have misunderstood and misrepresented the character of God; therefore we need to pray that in this world, and in all other worlds, His glorious personality should be understood, appreciated, and loved.

When we pray “Hallowed be thy Name” it is to remind ourselves of the greatness and glory of God our Father. Before you utter petitions for yourself, be still! Compel the intruding crowd of daily needs and desires to remain outside the fence which surrounds the mountain foot. Go up to meet with God, desiring to look at the needs of the world and of your own little life, as subordinate to your own great desire that God should be loved, honoured, and obeyed. Put God’s interests above your own. Enthrone Him in thought and petition.

In a world that neither knew nor hallowed God’s Name, Jesus set Himself to reveal and unfold all its wonderful depths. Let us try every day to know more of that Name, and to make it known. It is through ignorance of God that men turn from Him. They have distorted views, obtained from the lives and words of professedly religious people which are often a sad travesty and misrepresentation of God. If only men really knew God, surely the love with which He has loved them would enter and fill their hearts.

It is said that the passion of the French soldiers for Napoleon was so great, that even when mortally wounded they would raise themselves as he came riding past on his charger, and cry: “Long live the Emperor!” It is when we have become wholly absorbed in bringing glory to God in the highest, that we shall know peace in our hearts, and become the channels of goodwill to men, as men of good-will, i.e., the doers of God’s Will.

Heavenly Father, unveil to me, I humbly ask, the sweet mystery and beauty of Thy Name–Abba Father. AMEN.- F. B. Meyer

OUR COUNSELLOR

“ Is thy counsellor perished?- Micah 4:9

The Lord’s people need counsel, and Jesus is given to them as a COUNSELLOR. He is exactly suited to their needs, being possessed of infinite wisdom, unbounded benevolence, great experience, and high honour. He never lost a cause. He counsels freely, cheerfully, and successfully. He turns the counsel of all our foes into foolishness. But though we have this Wonderful Counsellor, we neglect to consult, employ or trust Him; and it may often be demanded of us, Is thy Counsellor perished? If not, why this perplexity? Why these mistakes? Why those fears and groans, and forebodings? Why this running to creatures for advice and succour? Beloved, let us stand reproved; we have walked in our own counsels, we have not waited for His counsel, we have neglected and forgotten Jesus in His office. Let us in future never act without His counsel, never employ men to His dishonour, never listen to Satan when he would persuade us not to apply to, trust in, and expect advice from Jesus as our COUNSELLOR. He says, I will counsel thee, Mine eye shall be upon thee.-James Smith

Lord, be my Counsellor,
My Pattern, and my Guide;
And through this desert land,
Still keep me near Thy side;
O let my feet ne’er run astray
Nor rove, nor seek the crooked way.
