MORNING MANNA          12/16/19

December 16, 2019 By Pastor David Stone

“And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.”– Luke 1:30–33

When Gabriel announced to Mary that she would be the mother of the Messiah, he told her to name Him Jesus, which means “Jehovah is our Saviour.” There was no question or doubt from the beginning regarding the purpose behind Jesus coming into the world. He did many wonderful things and taught many wonderful truths, but the driving motivation behind the birth, life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ was the salvation of the lost.

There is no way we can fully comprehend the majesty, glory, and wonder of the Lord. Human minds and human words fail to even begin to praise Him as He deserves. We are simply not up to the task. Billy Sunday said, “There are two hundred and fifty-six names given in the Bible for the Lord Jesus Christ, and I suppose this was because He was infinitely beyond all that any one name could express.” He is worthy of all praise.

The name of Jesus is the power of the gospel message. When Peter was told to stop preaching about Jesus, he replied, “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” (Acts 4:12). The world may treat the name of Jesus as a curse word or a punch line, or use it almost like punctuation. But it is a lovely and precious name, and we should never take it lightly. The very name of Jesus contains God’s promise of salvation for those who trust in Him. (Copied)

MORNING MANNA           12/15/19

December 15, 2019 By Pastor David Stone

“Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee… And Adam called his wife’s name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.” – Gen. 3:16, 20

I wonder how many times someone has said, “It will take a miracle” in reference to something. We all end up there sooner or later. But, picture yourself in the place of Eve after the fall. Try to imagine how she felt. With her innocence spoiled, quaking in fear, troubled by guilt, cursed by sin, banished from the garden, she was uncertain as to what lay ahead. All of  a sudden she has to live in subjection to an imperfect husband, face the pain of childbirth, struggle with daily duties – the rigors of a cursed planet, and do it all with a temperament tainted by her transgression. How is she going to bear up and keep going under circumstances like that?

I believe the answer is found in the power of a promise. Living under the dark cloud of their disobedience God gave them the bright light of a glorious promise related to the woman’s seed – the promise of a Savior. The fact that “Adam called his wife’s name Eve; because she was the mother of all living” (vs. 20) proves he had embraced God’s promise. Besides that, Acts 3:21 proves that he was a prophet, and knew it would all end well.

I know your situation is different, but the struggles are just as real and the need is the same. Right now some of you are wondering “How?”. You are thinking “It will take a miracle”, and you are right. Fortunately God specializes in miracles! Your answer is found in Eve’s answer and Adam’s message. So as you celebrate the coming of Christ, “her seed“, I hope you are reminded that God’s promises never fail. Regardless of how miserably you have failed and what you are forced to face you can rest assured that in the end all that was lost in Adam will be restored through Christ. Christmas reminds us of that certainty. He is the bright light we need to face the dark days of a difficult life! – HDS

MORNING MANNA           12/14/19

December 14, 2019 By Pastor David Stone

“And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life: And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.” – Gen. 3:14-15

In response to Satan’s folly and man’s fall, God makes this declaration. He wanted the devil, and us, to know that the serpent is a defeated foe. Although the curse would be allowed to play out down through the centuries, Satan’s doom was sure. However, not only does God assure us of Satan’s ruin He also assures us of the sinner’s redemption.

Your concept of Christmas isn’t correct unless you consider it in connection with the curse placed upon man when Adam and Eve sinned. In other words, you need to see the purpose of Christmas as a part of God’s promise in these verses. The reference to “her seed” has to do with the virgin birth (since the “seed” emanates from the man, not the women). Think about it. This tells us that God had a plan in place to redeem man from his fall ever since the fall, actually even before. Even when all seemed perfect in the garden of Eden God knew that sin would enter in and He prepared for it. Their sin didn’t surprise God. He knew before the world was created exactly what would happen and He devised a means of deliverance. So this Christmas be reminded of the fact that God is in control. Let it remind you that God cannot lie and He will not fail. He has done exactly as He promised and He did it out of the greatness of His love for you! Although the Savior’s heel was bruised on the cross, it resulted in a fatal head bruise for Satan. If all the world seems against you, know this – God is for you, and has been from the beginning. There is victory in Jesus! – HDS

MORNING MANNA           12/13/19

December 13, 2019 By Pastor David Stone

“Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.” – Phil. 2:4

Considering how busy we are at this time of the year I thought this story from Dr. Bob Griffin might be helpful. A successful young executive was riding his brand new car down a street near his downtown office when he noticed a kid darting out from between parked cars. He carefully slowed down. but as he appeared near that spot, a brick smashed into his car’s passenger-side door. He slammed on the brakes and backed up to the place where the brick has been thrown.

The furious man jumped out of his car and caught the nearest kid shouting, “What was that all about? What in the world did you do to my car? Why did you do it?”.

The young boy was little scared, but was very polite and apologetic. “I am sorry Mister. I didn’t know what else to do,” he pleaded. “I had to throw the brick because I’ve been trying and trying and no one else would stop to help”.  With tears rolling down his cheeks, he pointed towards the parked cars and said, “It’s my brother, he rolled off the curb and fell off his wheelchair and he’s hurt. I can’t lift him up.”

The sobbing boy asked the man, “Would you please help me get him back into his wheelchair? He’s too heavy for me.” The young man was moved beyond words and tried to swallow the rapidly swelling lump in his throat. He hurriedly lifted the other kid from the gutter and put him back in the wheelchair, checking to make sure he didn’t need more attention for any bruises or cuts.

When he thought that everything would be ok, he went back to his car. “Thank you, sir, and God bless you”, said the grateful kid. The young man was too shaken up for any word, so he simply watched the little boy push his wheelchair-bound brother down the sidewalk and around a corner.

It was a long and slow drive back home to his garage.  When he walked around his car, he looked at the dented car door. The damage was very noticeable, but he decided not to bother to repair it. He knew the dent would remind him – “Don’t go through life so fast that someone has to throw a brick at you to get your attention”.

MORNING MANNA         12/12/19

December 12, 2019 By Pastor David Stone

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance…..”– Gal. 5:22-23

I just received an ad email from Sirius XM that said, “Turn on the Joy”. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if it was that easy? Just hit a button or turn a knob and you receive instant joy. Well we all know it doesn’t happen that way. And wishing won’t make it work. So where does this highly prized joy come from? Since everyone wants it you would think they would listen to every suggestion, pursue every lead, and investigate every avenue to get it. I guess some people, in a sense, do just that – but they look in the wrong places. Most people refuse to go to the one place where the answer is found – God’s Word.

Our text tells us that joy is a fruit of the Spirit, not a work of the flesh or a reward for effort. Regardless of how hard we try we cannot produce genuine joy. All we can produce is an cheap imitation. There is no possibility of true joy until a person has first been born again. Contrary to popular thought, only Christians have the potential for joy. It is produced by the Spirit of God in a child of God who is in the will of God – yielded to the Son of God. And joy is never alone. To some degree it is always accompanied by the eight other things mentioned in our text.

I can’t change your circumstances, but I can tell you that joy is possible regardless of your situation. And it is that supernatural joy that gives you the strength ( Neh. 8:10) needed to endure the challenge you are facing. That’s why you must not ignore a lack of joy. That is a serious situation. Don’t think of joy as an option, but rather an obligation. We are commanded to be joyful, and pretending won’t do. Without joy we are both weak and wayward. So rather than just dragging through the day in a depressed state, think about this – “But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee”. – Psa. 5:11. – HDS
