RICH BEYOND MEASURE

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,” ‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭1‬:‭3‬-‭4‬ ‭

Satan delights in troubling God’s people and one of the most effective tools in his workshop is discouragement. To accomplish his goal he tries to convince us that we are deprived. He tells us that we deserve more, bigger, and better. Our best defense against this trap is to remember what we have by virtue of being a child of God, to focus on what God gives us, rather than what we don’t have.

God gives His Son to save us, His Spirit to empower us, His Word to guide us, His wisdom to direct us, His goodness to supply us, His mercy to pardon us, His grace to restore us, His joy to strengthen us, His peace to calm us, His gifts to use us, and His promises to cheer us.

So, cheer up child of God, you are rich beyond measure! If God never did anything but save us we would have nothing to complain about. The great God who saves us provides everything we need, and far more than we deserve, until we arrive at our heavenly home where we will receive out inheritance as joint-heirs with Christ and there will be no more needs. – HDS

THE DECEITFULNESS OF SIN
“But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.” ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭3‬:‭13‬ ‭

Sin is the greatest evil in the universe. It is the parent of all other evils. All evils draw their bitterness from this fountain of wormwood and gall. If a man had every possession a mortal could desire, sin could turn every blessing into a curse. And on the other hand, if a man had nothing but suffering, but stood clear from all sin–then his afflictions, his losses, his deprivations, might each one be a gain to him. We ought not to pray so much against sickness, or trial, or even against death itself–as against sin. Satan himself cannot hurt us, except as he is armed with the poisoned arrows of sin.

Alas! We are sadly prone to sin, and evil has great influence over us. Sin never presents itself in its true colors. Like a skilled deceiver, it comes as an angel of light, promising freedom, but delivering bondage; offering pleasure, but producing pain. Sin’s most deadly weapon is its power to delude the soul. It is not the roaring lion–but the subtle serpent, that we have most cause to fear!

Sin deceives in many ways:

Sin softens its name–what God calls rebellion, sin calls mistake or infirmity.

Sin minimizes consequences, whispering, “You shall not die.”

Sin appeals to the affections, drawing the heart toward what seems desirable; but is in truth, destructive. Sin first fascinates–and then slays. Sin . . .
  blinds the judgment,
  hardens the heart,
  and ultimately damns the soul.

One of sin’s deadliest lies is that it is harmless in small doses. The point of the sword is small, and for that reason the more deadly! We permit “little sins,” imagining them to be harmless. But little sins soon grow into great sins, and great sins damn the soul.

A single sinful thought, once indulged, makes way for a sinful act. A moment of sinful pleasure, can open the floodgates to years of regret. The  hardening effect of sin is gradual–but certain. The more a man sins, the less he feels it:
  his conscience grows dull,
  his affections grow cold,
  and his will becomes enslaved.

Sin is sweet in the mouth, but bitter in the belly. It is honey dipped in poison.

Sin is not to be played with. It is a fire that burns us, a venomous  serpent that bites us, and a sword that kills us.

Every sin is a step towards Hell. Though the first steps may seem harmless, the descent is speedy, steep, and slippery!- Charles Spurgeon

GETTING AND GIVING COMFORT

“Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.” ‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭1‬:‭3‬-‭4‬ ‭

There’s a story of a lady who kept an ordinary cardboard box sitting on a bookcase in her home. The box was filled with notes, cards, and letters, offering love and encouragement at a time when her life was filled with sadness.

She was housebound for several years caring for her husband who had Alzheimer’s disease. As each card arrived, it provided her and her husband with a cheerful message telling of the sender’s prayers, love, and support. The words on the cards were often exactly what she needed to make it through the day.

When her husband passed away, and she moved to rebuild her life without him, she began sending cards to others who were experiencing the same kind of pain, remembering how much they helped her.

It doesn’t take long to send a simple note saying, “I’m praying for you” or “You are in my thoughts today.” With the technological advances of our world today, it’s easy to send someone a quick e-mail of encouragement, but there is still nothing like holding a card in your hand, knowing that the sender took time to think of you and your situation.

George William Childs, American publisher who lived from 1829-1894, once said, “Do not keep the alabaster box of your love and friendship sealed up until your friends are dead. Fill their lives with sweetness. Speak approving, cheering words while their ears can hear them and while their hearts can be thrilled and made happier. The kind things you mean to say when they are gone, say before they go.”

Ask God to make you a blessing today in someone’s life who may need a note of encouragement and love. Continually pray that His presence will surround those in your life who are going through difficult times.

MORNING MANNA             6-14-25

“We love him because he first loved us”-1 John 4:19

We who know the Lord love the Lord. There is no question about that. As Charles Spurgeon said,”There is no exception to this rule; if a man loves not God, neither is he born of God. Show me a fire without heat, then show me regeneration that does not produce love to God.”

He was right, but some folks don’t seem to get it. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard people say,”I love the Lord”, and that is great– we ought to proclaim our love for Him. But in some instances their testimony just doesn’t ring true. When some people say “I love the Lord”, they mean,” I don’t care about the church and I’m not involved in Christian service, I just love the Lord.” Oh really? Are you sure?

When a person truly loves Christ it will affect his attitude and actions. Here’s the proof—“If a man love me, he will keep my words:—- He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings–“(John 14:23-24). So, what about it? Do you really love the Lord? Is there evidence that you love Him? If not then you have reason for great concern.

We will be judged by the truth, not our testimony. Loving religion is not the same as loving the Redeemer. Some “feel” that they love God, but the facts say otherwise. Salvation is more than being satisfied with what you’ve chosen to believe. Knowing about God isn’t the same as knowing God. The former is religion, the latter is a relationship. Salvation comes when God accepts you because you have accepted His Son to be who He is declared to be in God’s Word. Have you? If not I urge you to do so today. — HDS

THE BRIGHT DAYS
“…. without me ye can do nothing.”‭‭John‬ ‭15‬:‭5‬

 ‭
We generally stress our need of God most when things are at their worst. However, we need to consider the other side of the coin. I’ve noticed over the years that prosperity has spoiled more people than problems ever did. We need to see our need of God at all times in our life. The following words by J.R. Miller helps us put things in their proper perspective:

“We need Christ just as much in our bright, prosperous, exalted hours as in the days of darkness, adversity, and depression. We are quite in danger of thinking that religion is only for sickrooms and funerals, and for times of great sorrow and trial—a lamp to shine at night, a staff to help when the road is rough, a friendly hand to hold us up when we are stumbling. This is not true. Jesus went to the marriage-feast as well as to the home of sorrow. His religion is just as much for our hours of joy as for our days of grief. There are just as many stars in the sky at noon as at midnight, although we cannot see them in the sun’s glare. And there are just as many comforts, promises, divine encouragements, and blessings above us when we are in the noons of our human gladness and earthly success, as when we are in our nights of pain and shadow. We may not see them in the brightness about us, but they are there, and their benedictions fall upon us as perpetually, in a gentle rain of grace.”

The old song “I Need Thee Every Hour” says it well. Don’t forget it. – HDS
