MORNING MANNA         3/19/19

March 19, 2019 By Pastor David Stone

“For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.”- Psa. 84:11

Grace is what we need just now, and it is to be had freely. What can be freer than a gift? Today we shall receive sustaining, strengthening, sanctifying, satisfying grace. He has given daily grace until now, and as for the future, that grace is still sufficient. If we have but little grace the fault most lie in ourselves; for the Lord is not straitened, neither is He slow to bestow it in abundance. We may ask for as much as we will and never fear a refusal. He giveth liberally and upbraideth not.

The Lord may not give gold, but He will give grace: He may not give gain, but He will give grace. He will certainly send us trial, but He will give grace in proportion thereto. We may be called to labor and to suffer, but with the call there will come all the grace required;

What an “end” is that in the text — “and glory!” We do not need glory yet, and we are not yet fit for it; but we shall have it in due order. After we have eaten the bread of grace, we shall drink the wine of glory. We must go through the holy, which is grace, to the holiest of all, which is glory. These words and glory are enough to make a man dance for joy. A little while — a little while, and then glory forever! (Faith’s Checkbook).

Indeed, my dear friend, for the believer the best is yet to come!

MORNING MANNA       3/18/19

March 18, 2019 By Pastor David Stone

“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness”– 2 Timothy 3:16

Righteousness! Is there any finer ambition, nobler aspiration, or loftier aim than this?

God could have given us a book that equipped us to “get rich quick.” He could have given us a text that included all of the scientific information that we would need in order to heal every disease or cure every illness. God could even have given us a copy of the Book of Life, which Revelation tells us contains the names of all His children. (20:15) And yet He determined it to be more important to give us the Bible. Why? Because of what it is able to do.

What can it do? Can it make us wealthy? Yes, with riches that cannot be lost or stolen. Can it treat our illness? Yes, with a balm that ministers to the soul. Can it give us assurance that we will live in Heaven forever? Yes, by describing those to whom eternal life is promised and by instructing us how to live like them.

Apparently God places a higher value on these spiritual qualities than He does upon the material wealth or health that He could have provided us. Should not we do the same? Shouldn’t we lay aside popularity for purity, safety for sanctification, and comfortableness for conformity to Christ? There is no joy more genuine than that of a clean conscience and a satisfied soul. And the Bible gives us instruction on our way to that very end.( Baptist Bible Hour)

MORNING MANNA         3/17/19

March 17, 2019 By Pastor David Stone

“….. Thy God reigneth !”– Isa. 52:7

There is no doubt about it, we live in a fallen world filled with corruption, conflict, and confusion – not an easy place to live. Not being able to control or change things can be terribly frustrating. That’s why it is so crucial, and comforting, to remember these words, “Thy God reigneth“. Knowing He is in control gives us peace that passeth all understanding. Rather than concern ourselves with things beyond our control we can commit our cares unto the hands of the One who governs all, the One with all power in heaven and earth, the One who is always calm and composed. Knowing God reigns we can rest in peace, which is exactly what we should do (Phil. 4:6-7).

Although God appoints and allows things that we can’t understand we can live with the assurance that He never makes a mistake. We can know, based on His promises, that in time we will realize the wisdom of His ways, rejoice in the reasons He reveals, and reap the benefits of trusting Him. Until then we walk by faith in the One who cannot lie and never fails.

When you are troubled by temptation, perplexed about your pain, weakened by weariness, discouraged by difficulties, and fearful of the future, remember – “Thy God reigneth!”. Awareness of that glorious truth will calm your troubled heart and give you the strength to go on, even when it seems that everything is against you. Knowing God is working out His eternal purpose, even when evil seems to be winning, is cause for courage and a reason for rejoicing.– HDS

MORNING MANNA         3/16/19

March 16, 2019 By Pastor David Stone

“But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.“- Rom. 14:10

A friend of mine told me about a man who was always criticizing the church. This man was at church one day and he saw the custodian cleaning the floor with a brand new mop. He was infuriated! He went to the pastor and told him, “What makes you think we can afford a new mop? The old one was just fine!”

The pastor told him it was the church treasurer’s decision to buy the mop. So the man went off to the treasurer and voiced his opinion. He was fuming, “You always talk about being short of our budget, and then you go and buy a new mop?!”

With a smile on his face, the treasurer calmly answered the man, “You know, I’d be pretty upset too if all the money I’d given to the church over the past year was tied up in a mop!”

Perhaps you’ve noticed that those who criticize the most tend to be the ones who contribute the least. Whether it be at church, at work, or on a project, critics and cynics are right at home pointing out problems rather than being part of the solution.
Don’t be an uncommitted critic. Work together with others in ministry and help move the mission of your church forward. Avoid being a cynic by being actively involved in the local body! ( Jack Graham)

MORNING MANNA           3/15/19

March 15, 2019 By Pastor David Stone

“For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;”- Col. 1:9-11

Paul begins this letter by commending them ( vs. 1- 8). Then he comforts them by assuring them of his prayers ( vs. 9-11). There is a great lesson in this for us. Most of our praying is for the unsaved, sick, suffering, and needy. That is well and good, but there is another group that we need to consider. We also need to pray for those who are saved, faithfully serving the Lord, and succeeding in spiritual matters — those such as Paul addresses in this letter. Far too often they are off the prayer list because it is assumed they doing so well. Paul didn’t make that mistake. He was so encouraged by what he heard about them that he praised them–but he also prayed for them.

We seem to forget that such people don’t get where they are by accident. They progress while under attack by Satan and they struggle with temptation just like everyone else. While they are faithful servants and a blessing to others, they are in great need of prayer lest they stumble and fall or cease to grow. Don’t assume that because they are doing so well that they don’t need your prayers. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Although they are much like Jesus they are still far from Him. They could be, should be, and desire to be more like Christ.

However, because they are the most dedicated members in the church their needs are often overlooked. Some suppose they don’t need our prayers when in reality they might need our prayers the most. Notice the needs that Paul mentioned in vs. 9-11, ” that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;”.

Try this– make a list of all the most faithful, spiritual minded, Christ-like people you know. Have you been praying for them? Do you not see a need to pray for them? Will you start praying for them?– HDS
