BRAINWASHED

October 18, 2017 By Pastor David Stone

“BRAINWASHED”“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”–Prov. 4:23“For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he:…”–Prov. 23:7
I recently saw a video posted on Facebook called “You Are Being Brainwashed”. It was produced by a man named Rob Dial. I had never heard of him and I’m not endorsing him, but he made some good points. He spoke about the brain just naturally looking for the negative. He said the media knows this and uses it to their advantage. I suspect most of us know that’s true. They do what they do to sell products and promote their agenda. And then there is Hollywood and the entertainment industry which has been shaping the minds of people for decades.
I don’t see how anyone could deny that the mainstream media is brainwashing people. Whether it’s through “fake” news, slanted news, or selective reporting they have colored the minds of millions who sit like zombies everyday soaking it up. You hear only what the “news” outlet wants you to hear. So I think it fair to say that they have been “brainwashed”. They no longer think for themselves. That puts them and others in grave danger. This is a major reason for the great divide we see in our nation.
We can’t change the content of what is seen in the news, but we can do something to protect  ourselves– something even more important than turning the TV off. Because our actions are dictated by what is in our heart we need a washing, a cleansing, of our heart. That’s why we need God’s Word. It purifies our heart, opens our eyes, imparts truth, and provides a light for our path. We cannot trust our heart, nor can we trust the media. We need a sure word from God that we can depend on in every situation. Psalm 119:9 says, “Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.” Vs. 105 says, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” The best protection against Satan’s lies is to know God’s truth. It never leads us astray!—HDS

THE PIT

October 17, 2017 By Pastor David Stone

THE PIT
“He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.”–Psalm 40:2
The headline from yesterday read, ” Man rescued after being stuck in manhole for 6 days, police say“. The article explained, “The man was found just after 3am Monday after he fell in the hole under the Beltway 8 and Highway 59… Fire officials said he did not have any food or water while trapped“. It’s hard to imagine being in that situation.
But, believe it or not, there was a time when I was in an even worse condition! I was in a deep dark pit for 24 years! I was in the pit of sin, “having no hope, and without God in the world” (Eph. 2:12). Then, as the Psalmist said, the Lord– “He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.”. And that’s not all He did–“And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.”(vs. 3)
My dear friend if you are in that pit, here’s some advice for you–“Blessed is that man that maketh the LORD his trust..”(vs.4).  Then he tells us why, “Many, O LORD my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.”(vs. 5). Since that day when God delivered me I have spent a life time enjoying His blessings and I face each new day knowing the best is always yet to come!
I knew I was in a horrible pit and I wanted out, but I was helpless. I couldn’t get out and no one could help me out, but “he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. He brought me up..”( Vs. 1-2). And what God did for me He will do for you. Cry out unto Him and He will deliver you also. Why would you wait? Trust Him and experience what His grace has in store!–HDS

ONLY ONE WAY

October 16, 2017 By Pastor David Stone

ONLY ONE WAY

“And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”–Ephesians 2:6–9

Someone once asked Dr. H. A. Ironside, “There are hundreds of religions in this country, and the followers of each sect think they’re right. How can people like us find out what really is the truth?” Ironside responded, “Did I hear you say there are hundreds of religions? That’s strange; I’ve heard of only two. There are many shades of differences in the first, but they all expect salvation by doing.  The other group is all who have been saved by something already done for them.”

There is only one way to Heaven. It is popular in our day to deride the concept of absolute truth and exclusive belief. We are told that while something may be true for us, it isn’t necessarily true for everyone. There is great emphasis placed on accepting differing beliefs as being of equal value and validity. That message may be widely accepted and comforting to many, but it is false. Truth is still truth, and God’s truth is not subject to the whims or opinions of man.

God has decreed that only those who accept the gift of salvation on His terms can receive it. There are no alternative or back up plans available. The desire to gain salvation on our own apart from what God has already provided is an indication of the rebellion and pride that lurks in our hearts as a result of sin. There is no room for pride in those who choose to accept God’s offer of salvation solely through His grace. There is no salvation apart from that offered by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone. ALWAYS READY

October 15, 2017 By Pastor David Stone

ALWAYS READY
“Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is.”–Mark 13:33

It is the time of our Lord’s coming again to which these words refer. He is coming; but when, no one can know. He will come suddenly, without warning. Since, then, we cannot know what moment the Lord may appear, we must “take heed, watch and pray,” lest He come and surprise us unprepared. This does not mean that we are always to be talking and thinking of the event and waiting for it in dreamy idleness and useless gazing. What Christ wants us to do is so to live at all times that His coming at any moment of the day or night will not find us unready.

For one thing, we should be sure of our personal salvation. If we are not saved now we should instantly see to the matter; for He may come the next hour, and there will be no time then to seek salvation. We should keep our work faithfully done, day by day, leaving nothing unfinished any evening; for before morning He may come. We should live at peace with all men, never allowing the sun to go down on our wrath or on any enmity or bitterness; for before another day dawns He may come, and we would not want Him to come and find us in strife and bitterness. We should be careful what we do any hour; for he may come suddenly and find us in sin. We should watch where we go, least His coming may surprise us in some place where we would not want Him to find us.

This truth, kept ever as a living force in our consciousness, would be the weightiest motive to faithfulness in every duty, and watchfulness against every sin. His coming will be so sudden and so unexpected that there will be no time then to set wrong things right, to finish uncompleted tasks, to get sin-stains washed out, to undo evil deeds. The only safe way to live is to make each task complete — a fit ending for all of life.(J. R. Miller)

PEOPLE OF PURPOSE

October 13, 2017 By Pastor David Stone

People of Purpose

“Who, when he came, and had seen the grace of  God, was glad, and  exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart  they would cleave unto  the Lord. “(Acts 11:23)

Psychologist William Moulton Marston surveyed 3,000 people and asked them, “What do you have to live for?”He was shocked to find that of the people who responded, 94 percent  were simply enduring the present while they were waiting for the future. They described this as waiting for something to happen. They were  waiting for children to grow up and leave home, waiting for next year,  waiting for another time to take a dreamed-about trip. They were waiting for tomorrow.

We can spend our whole lives waiting for something to happen, and  meanwhile, our lives are passing by. We have no purpose. We have no  direction. We’re throwing them away. As someone has said, “Some men die by shrapnel, and some go down in  flames, but most men perish inch by inch, playing at little games.”Purpose is vital. It’s an anchor in storm. It’s a base in battle.

We read in the New Testament that when Barnabas visited the believers  in Antioch, he “exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart  they would cleave unto  the Lord. ” (Acts 11:23). Ephesians 2 describes us before our commitment to Christ: “And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: ”  (verses 1–2). That’s how we lived. But then we found out there was a God. We  discovered His Word. We found there were absolutes to live by in  life—right and wrong, true and false, black and white. We became men and women of purpose. Do other people know what you stand for? If you don’t stand for something, you are liable to fall for anything.–Copied
