MORNING MANNA               3-4-25

MORNING MANNA                3-4-25

FEW DAYS AND FULL OF TROUBLE
“Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble.”–Job 14:1

This describes life on planet earth. Of all that might be said, only two things are mentioned— life is of “few days” and “full of trouble”. He speaks of duration and difficulties, brevity and burdens. Life is short and a struggle, uncertain and unpleasant. We are foolish to expect it to be otherwise. A fallen world results in life being of few days and full of trouble. And it is getting progressively worse. Still we are expected to do our duty with delight. Although suffering greatly we are to serve faithfully. Although the road is rough we are required to “rejoice in the Lord alway”(Phil.4:4).

When he says life is “full of trouble” we all agree– if not now then later. There is trouble of all sorts and sizes in all seasons of life. Sin brought a curse upon the earth and it brings disease, difficulty, and death. Thus there is dread and despair. Seeing that it gets worse with the passing of time, who would want to live forever? At some point you would reach a breaking point. So, thank God it is but a “few days”. And it is but a few days whether you die at 9 or 90. Compared to eternity we are here but for a moment. For the righteous death shall be a delight, for “the just shall come out of trouble”(Prov. 30:5).

Your troubles might be terrible but they are temporary–“but for a moment” and transforming–working “for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory”.(2 Cor. 4:17). For the child of God the best is always yet to come! When your health and wealth is gone your inheritance awaits. When the storm clouds of sorrow overwhelm you, joy comes in the morning. The best will have, at long last, come and the burdens will go. Until that day appointed comes let us “wait” as Job did (Job 14:14)— ever mindful, in good times or bad, the best is yet to come.- HDS, 6-12-14

FOREVER FORGIVEN

“This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.”‭‭1 Timothy‬ ‭1‬:‭15‬ ‭

D L Moody told the story of a Scottish preacher who before his conversion had been a vile and  wicked man. His reputation for fighting drinking, and gambling made him well known throughout the area.Soon after he was saved he started preaching the gospel, but some folks were skeptical. On one particular night as he prepared to go preach in another town, someone handed him an envelope with a note inside containing a list of the terrible things he had done in that town. After debating what to do for a moment, then stepped to the pulpit and began to speak.

“Friends, I am accused of crimes and sins committed in this very city. I will read them to you.” One after another he read these charges, and at the conclusion of each he said, “I am guilty.” When he had finished the whole list, he paused for a moment and then said, “You ask how I dare come to you and speak of righteousness and truth, with a list of crimes like that against my name? I will tell you: ‘This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.’”

That is exactly right. Dear friends, Jesus died for all and everything. Regardless of what you have done He is willing to forgive you and save you from the penalty of sin. He is a great Savior for great sinners. From the gutter- most to the utter-most, He is willing and able to save whosoever that will come to God through Him. His sacrifice is sufficient. His promises are sure. And His power is able. You cannot change your past, but you can remove the condemnation that is against you and become a new creature in Christ Jesus by simply trusting Him as your Lord and Savior.- HDS, 9-1-14

How to Understand the Bible
“I understand more than the ancients, because I keep Thy precepts.” – Psalm 119:100

Several years ago I heard about a woman who had complained to her pastor that she couldn’t understand the Bible and was confused about God’s will for her life. The wise pastor responded by asking her if she could think of any areas of her life where she was failing to do as she should. When she confessed that she could think of some, the preacher said, “Then why should God Almighty reveal anything else to you?” Have you ever thought about that?

It’s common for people to say they don’t understand God’s word or know God’s will. But the reason is simple. If you aren’t willing to obey God’s word, nor do His will, why should God give you a greater understanding of His Word or open a door of opportunity to do  some work for the Lord? Your rebellion robs you that great reward. When we are willing to do as God commands and go where God calls we will know what we need to know.

Keep God’s Word, and through it God will reveal His truth. Some of you know what God wants you to do, but you’re not doing it. And you wonder why you’ve come up against a roadblock when you try to read the Bible.”- HDS, 7-13-14

THE SAD AND GLAD NEWS
We often hear people say, “No two people are alike”, and in a sense that is true. But, it also can be said that, by nature all people are alike. We all descended from Adam and have the same sinful nature. Of all men, “there is no difference”(Rom. 3:22), “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Rom. 3:23). Whether you trace  your ancestry back to faithful Abraham or Nimrod the rebel, there is no difference. We are all sinful and unfit for the kingdom of God. Your family tree might be that of royalty or rogues, you are a rebel against the King of kings until you claim Christ as your Lord. Whether you are a bum or a banker, without Christ you are spiritually bankrupt. Black or white, bond or free, rich or poor, learned or illiterate we’re all in the same boat by nature, and it’s sinking. That’s the bad news!

The good news is that, “God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life”(John 3:16). It is good news that, “Jesus. . . by the grace of God should taste death for every man”(Heb. 2:9); “. . .”he died for all”. . (2 Cor. 5:15), that we who are unrighteous “might be made the righteousness of God in him.”(2 Cor. 5:21), That is good news indeed— it is glorious! We have hope —but only in Him!

Jesus made salvation available for everyone, so anyone could be saved. Now “. . whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”(Rom. 10:13). God has provided everything everyone needs for anyone to be saved. All we have to do is “believe” to receive. It is easy for us because it was hard for Him. We can be saved because He was sacrificed. He died that we might live.

The sad news is there is none righteous, no not one. The glad news is, there is One righteous, yes just one. He who is righteous died for the unrighteous. “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him”(2 Cor. 5:21). “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved.“ (Acts17:31) – HDS, 4-4-14

Trusting God

Psalms 56:3 “What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.”

Job couldn’t understand why he had been buffeted by painful adversities.

Abraham couldn’t understand why God would require him to sacrifice his son.

Jacob couldn’t understand why he was deprived of his son, thinking he was dead.

Joseph couldn’t understand why he was hated by his brothers and sold into slavery.

Moses couldn’t understand why he had to spend 40 years in the wilderness while his people suffered in bondage.

Mary and Martha couldn’t understand why the Lord wasn’t there to prevent the death of their brother.

History is filled with examples of people who found themselves in painful situations that they could not understand. But all who survived and thrived learned one grand lesson, that none of us should ever forget,—it is better to trust God than to try to understand Him.

Perhaps you are facing something today that has stretched you to your limits. You hurt and no one is there to help. You are looking for answers and God isn’t talking. What now? The answer to your dilemma is found in Proverbs 3:5, “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.” It worked for others and it will work for you! –David Stone , 9/6/08
