THE REAL McCOY

August 5, 2009 By Pastor David Stone

—–being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
James 1:25

Elijah McCoy invented a cup that automatically dripped oil and it was installed on locomotives. Soon, everyone wanted a “McCoy Cup” because it greatly increased engine efficiency. Because of its popularity, there were many inferior copies made; so many in fact, that train engineers had to demand “the real McCoy” in order to get the genuine article.

On the surface, many people appear to have a blessed life. They have the house, the car, the vacations, and the career. But as we have all witnessed during the recent economic downturn, those things are not the mark of a blessed life; they are merely an inferior copy of “the real McCoy.”

A genuinely blessed life is one that is lived in the obedience and direction of God despite circumstances and regardless of material possessions. It is experiencing blessings in ways the world cannot understand or offer, and it’s only available to those who seek His will and His way.

If you desire to have a life that is truly blessed by God, don’t settle for an imitation. Ask God to lead you to “the real McCoy.”  ———–From Turning Point

God’s commands are designed to guide you to life’s very best.

WAIT WITH PATIENCE

August 4, 2009 By Pastor David Stone

“Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him” (Ps. 37:7).

Have you prayed and prayed and waited and waited, and still there is no manifestation?

Are you tired of seeing nothing move? Are you just at the point of giving it all up? Perhaps you have not waited in the right way? This would take you out of the right place the place where He can meet you.

“With patience wait” (Rom. 8:25). Patience takes away worry. He said He would come, and His promise is equal to His presence. Patience takes away your weeping. Why feel sad and despondent? He knows your need better than you do, and His purpose in waiting is to bring more glory out of it all. Patience takes away self-works. The work He desires is that you “believe” (John 6:29), and when you believe, you may then know that all is well. Patience takes away all want. Your desire for the thing you wish is perhaps stronger than your desire for the will of God to be fulfilled in its arrival.

Patience takes away all weakening. Instead of having the delaying time, a time of letting go, know that God is getting a larger supply ready and must get you ready too. Patience takes away all wobbling. “Make me stand upon my standing” (Daniel 8:18, margin). God’s foundations are steady; and when His patience is within, we are steady while we wait. Patience gives worship. A praiseful patience sometimes “long-suffering with joyfulness” (Col. 1:11) is the best part of it all. “Let (all these phases of) patience have her perfect work” (James 1:4), while you wait, and you will find great enrichment.  –C. IT’S NOT THE END

August 3, 2009 By Pastor David Stone

If you are having financial troubles, setbacks…it’s not the end. If you have been lied to and deceived…it’s not the end. If you have lost your job…it’s not the end. If you have lost your home…it’s not the end.

If something has been stolen from you or if you have been robbed of your inheritance…it is not the end.

If your mate has walked away, chosen someone else instead of you…it’s not the end.

If you have just lost a loved one to death-sudden death, expected or unexpected-it is not the end. Even if your loved one committed suicide…it is not the end.

If you have behaved like an absolute fool and are mortified by what you did…it’s not the end.

If you are losing your hearing or your sight…it’s not the end.

If you are in the depths of depression, if you are battling depression or a chemical imbalance that has thrown all your emotions and even your way of thinking out of kilter…it’s not the end.

If you have learned that you have a terminal disease, a crippling disease, a wasting disease…it is not the end.

If you have stepped onto the threshold of death…it is not the end.

I can tell you all this with the utmost of confidence and know that what I am telling you is truth. It may seem like the end…you may wish it were the end…but it is not the end because God is God and the end has not yet come.

If you are convinced that whatever you are going through is the end, then one of two things is true: (1) either you are not listening to God, which means you don’t have the truth on the subject or situation, or (2) you are listening to a lie from the one who is behind it, the father of lies-the devil-who deceives the whole world.

I have spent a lot of time reading and meditating on the book of Isaiah. As I have read this book and been quiet before God, thinking about what He is saying, I have been thoroughly convinced that ultimately absolutely nothing matters but God. That is all. If I remember that and live accordingly, then I am going to live for Him and for His glory alone. If I live to that end, I will seek to live correctly in all my relationships, in all my affairs. Then, whatever happens or doesn’t happen will not be the end, for God and God alone is the end of all things.

Life is not over when the breath is taken from my body. I, too, like Israel, have a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11) because I belong to a covenant-keeping God.

As I read through Isaiah (not rushing through it but reading so as to meditate upon its truths), it has reminded me of the future which is mine, a future I have never seen, but a future as sure as the character and, thus, the Word of God!

You may say, “But, it’s not the future I am concerned about. It is the present. How do I get through the present?” It’s a good and valid question, my friend. You get through the present, whatever it is, by remembering that it is not the end.

There is a future, and the present isn’t it! Paul put it this way in 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 “For which cause we faint; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a monent, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.”(Note: Changed to KJV by HDS)

Every time I read through the Bible, I am overwhelmingly convinced again of the fact that my God and Father reigns supreme over all. My, how you and I need to be reminded of that over and over again! When we don’t remember this, our thinking gets skewed and we begin to live, act or respond as if whatever we are going through is “the end.” I personally think this is why so many Christians are failing at the business of life, why they are failing to live as more than conquerors. You know, don’t you, that every true Christian is an overcomer-“and this is the victory that has overcome the world-our faith” (1 John 5:4).

Maybe that is our problem when we think it is the end-we haven’t spent time with God in His Word, getting His perspective. So we believe a lie.

As much as I would like to convince you that it isn’t the end, whatever your situation involves, I can’t really do that. You can always come back to me and say, “That’s your opinion. You aren’t where I am.” And you would be right! It is my opinion, but it would be yours also if you would read through His entire Word, book-by-book, and take Him at His Word. It would literally make all the difference in the world-in your world.

My prayer is that you know your God intimately by being established in His Word, living a life that reverences Him for who He is: God. Not the end, but the Beginning and the End of all things.

DO YOU UNDERSTAND?

August 2, 2009 By Pastor David Stone

“Give me understanding, and I shall keep Thy law; yea, I shall observe it with my whole heart.” Psalm 119:34

As a pastor, I am delighted when people ask questions about the Bible. However, there are some folks who are more irritating than they are delightful. I get tired of people complaining about not being able to understand the Bible when they are not really studying the Bible, nor obeying it. They act as though it is God’s fault for not making it clear enough. I like the following comments made by the late Adrian Rogers:

The reason some of us don’t understand the Bible any more than we do is because we have not been living up to the light that God has already given us.

If you want to understand the part of the Bible that you don’t understand, then begin to obey the part that you do understand. Then you’ll begin to understand what you didn’t understand. Understand?

Ask God for faith that will reveal to you the hidden truths of His Word that are hard for you to understand right now.

EVERYTHING IS UNDER CONTROL

August 1, 2009 By Pastor David Stone

At the heart of life’s major struggles is a theological issue. Putting it in the form of a question: “Is God in charge or is He not?”

If we could, by some wonderful force from heaven, be allowed to slip from this earth in our present state and into the glory of heaven, we would not find one shred of evidence that reveals panic. You would never once hear “oops” from the lips of God, or “I wonder what we’re going to do about that down there?” Nor would we ever observe anxiety across the face of the living God. We would be stunned with amazement at how calm things are around His awesome throne.

From this side of glory we see the tapestry of life from underneath. It is full of knots and twisted threads and frayed ends that lack meaning and beauty. But from God’s perspective, looking at the top of the fabric, it is all under control.–By Charles Swindoll
