MORNING MANNA                  1-26-23

Whose Fault Will It Be?

“The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” 2 Peter 3:9

While it is impossible to fully picture what God has done for us through Christ, this example by Adrian Rogers illustrates that it isn’t God’s fault if we go to hell. He has provided for our salvation and only our sinful unbelief keeps us from being saved.

Suppose you were deathly sick and the only cure was a very rare and costly medicine. Yet you had no money.

Your doctor leaves and is gone for several days. When he comes back, there are dark circles under his eyes, his hands are trembling, and his clothing is torn and blood-stained.

The doctor holds out a vial of the medicine. “I went to secure this medicine for you. I withdrew my life savings. In my hurry, I wrecked my automobile. The blood on my shirt is that of my only son who was with me and was killed in the accident. Here is the cure. Take it, and you’ll live.”

Suppose you took that medicine, dashed it on the floor, and said, “Doctor, if I die, it will be your fault.”

This is exactly what God has done for mankind. God offered His Son so that no one has to be lost. But we must accept His gift. Have you accepted it?

THE WORST THING

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God”- Rom. 3:23

I wonder how many times people have said, “This is the worst thing that could have happened”. Really? Do you even know what the worst thing is? For most people the worst thing is thought to be suffering of some sort. But that isn’t the worst thing. It might be the most painful thing you have ever experienced, but that doesn’t make it the worst thing that could have happened. Believe it or not, sometimes that’s the best thing that could have happened because it made you aware of your need of God. So the thing that hurt you most helped you most. The worst thing led you to the best thing!

The fact is, sin is much worse than suffering. It is the worst thing you could do. Jesus suffered, but He never sinned. Since sin is an offense against God who is holy there is no doubt that it is the worst thing anyone can do. However it is not the worst thing that could happen. Many people have sinned, but they were forgiven and restored. Their sin was the worst thing they could have done, but there is something worse.

The worst thing that can happen, which comes from the worst thing you could do, is to be separated from God forever– that is hell. If you’ve never received Christ as your Lord and Savior you need to think about that. The very worst thing you could do is to sin by rejecting Christ. That leads to the worst possible thing that could happen to you.
The most foolish thing you could do is to do the worst possible thing by rejecting Christ. That leads to the worst possible thing which is being rejected by Him– eternally separated from Him in a devil’s hell. The best possible thing that could happen to anyone is to be saved – to have eternal life, and that could happen to you. – “.. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved….” Acts 16:32. -HDS

HATE EVIL

“Ye that love the Lord, hate evil: He preserveth the souls of His saints; He delivereth them out of the hand of the wicked.” Psalm 97:10

The late Adrian Rogers said, “This may come as a surprise to you, but just because you’re a Christian doesn’t mean you’re supposed to love everything.

Now, we hear that Christians are to be a people of love, and that is true. But did you know that if you’re a Christian, not only must you learn to love, but you also must learn to hate?

If you love God, then you are to hate what God hates. It is true in every realm. If you love flowers, you hate weeds. If you love health, you hate germs. If you love God, you hate evil. It is just that plain.

Romans 12:9b tells us in even stronger terms to “abhor that which is evil.” A hypocrite, something none of us want to be, is someone who says he loves God, but then he doesn’t hate sin.

Don’t tell others you love God if you don’t hate that which nailed His Son to the cross.”

But, remember, while we are to hate sin we are to love the sinner – Christ does, and we are unlike Him if we don’t. -HDS

MORNING MANNA            1-23-23

January 23, 2023 By Pastor David Stone

(“Every Day!” Author unknown, 1872)

“For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:6-8

“Do you love Me?” John 21:17

Does not Jesus in thus appealing to me, in effect say:

“For you, I left the realms of glory, and the adoration of ten thousand times ten thousand holy ones!

For you, I became incarnate, took on the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men.

For you, I obeyed the law, and wrought a perfect righteousness for your justification.

For you, I endured the cross, and despised the shame.

For you, I gave My back to the smiters, and My cheeks to those who plucked off the hair.

For you, I endured the crown of thorns, and gave My hands and My feet to be nailed to the tree.

For you, I shed My blood, and laid down My life!

I loved you with a love of pity and compassion—when you were dead in trespasses and sins!

I opened your eyes, revealed to you your sinfulness and guilt, and awakened your cry for mercy.

I sought you in your wanderings—and found you!

I brought you up out of the horrible pit, and miry clay—and set your feet upon the rock.

I have loved you with an everlasting love—and therefore with loving-kindness have I drawn you!
All this I have done for you- do you love Me?“

“We love Him, because He first loved us!” 1 John 4:19

MORNING MANNA              1-22-23

ONE DAY AT A TIME

“Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.” –Matthew 6:34

As with baseball, so with life, success is achieved not by hitting a few grand slams once in a while, but by the consistent hitting of singles and doubles each and every day. A meaningful and memorable life is nothing more than the sum total of successful years, a successful year is nothing more than the sum total of successful months, a successful month is nothing more than the sum total of successful weeks, and a successful week is nothing more than the sum total of successful days.

Too often, we tend to forget that life is won or lost between the sunrise and sunset of each new day. You and I have got to learn to live one day at a time. Anyone can fight the battles of today. Any woman can carry the burdens of one day.  Any man can stand up to the temptations of one day. It is when we find ourselves crucified between the regrets of yesterday and the fears of tomorrow, that we stumble and fall.

We need to live one day at a time because that is how God doles out life. In the creation story in Genesis, we see that the consistent measurement of time is the day, divided by morning and evening (Gen. 1:1ff). Life according to the Bible is to be lived in daily increments (Psalm. 90:12; 96:2; 139:16). Not knowing what tomorrow might bring or that it will come at all, points to the preciousness of each and every day. We must seize the day because today is all the life we have.

Also, we need to live one day at a time because each day has its own troubles. When Jesus addressed the issue of anxiety with his disciples, He sought to help them see that one of the reasons they were losing their nerve and throwing away their peace was because they were picking an unnecessary fight with tomorrow (Matt. 6:34). They were misappropriating their troubles. These men were going out of their minds to meet trouble that was still a day away. Worrying about tomorrow doesn’t change tomorrow; it only hurts our ability to live effectively today.

Further, we need to live one day at a time because grace is for the present not the future. God’s grace is timely and it is there when we need it (Heb. 4:16; Deut. 33:25). It is not given up front.  It is beautifully tailored and timed for the moment we are in. Just as the Israelites could not store up the manna God had given them each day, so we cannot stock pile grace (Ex. 16:14).

Remember there is no more important day in your life than this one, and whatever its troubles, there is grace perfectly apportioned for them.

Don’t forget that life by the yard is hard, but life by the inch is a cinch. – Philip De Courcy
