MORNING MANNA       10/9/18

October 9, 2018 By Pastor David Stone

“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” – John 14:6

If I say Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven most people would disagree. They would accuse me being unkind, cruel, and a liar. Yet that is exactly what both Jesus and the Bible says. The following story from Senior Living serves as a good illustration as to what is happening today.

A story is told about two men who lived in a small village and got into a terrible dispute that neither of them could resolve. So one night, the first man went to the town sage and told him his version of the story. When he was finished, the sage said, “You’re absolutely right.”

The next night, the second man went to the sage and told his side of the story. After he’d said his piece, the sage told him, “You’re absolutely right.”

When the second man left, the sage’s wife scolded her husband. “These two men told you different stories, and you told them both they were right. They can’t both be absolutely right!” The sage turned to his wife and said, “You’re absolutely right.”

In this day and age, more and more people are choosing consensus over truth. Even many spiritual leaders today validate every system of belief as separate paths to God. But the reality is if two people say very opposite things about God, they can’t both be right!

So what gives us confidence that Christianity is the right path? Quite simply, it’s because all other religions teach man how to reach God, but the Bible teaches that God reached down to us in the person of Jesus Christ.

Jesus is so different than any other spiritual leader. He didn’t come to show the way; He came to be the Way. Trust in Him alone.

Ask God to confirm in your heart that Jesus is the only way to the Father and thank Him for providing a way.

MORNING MANNA       10/8/18

October 8, 2018 By Pastor David Stone

“Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.”- John 15:4-5

Duty of some sort calls us all. However, some refuse to try because they feel, or say, they lack the gift. In other words, “I would if I could”. That’s usually an excuse for disobeying God. The truth is, when God calls, the gift follows the goal. He enables us to do as He directs. The ability comes with the assignment. Faithfulness to God is followed by fruit from God.

No one is expected to do everything, but anyone can do anything that God calls him to do. As Paul said in Phil. 2:13 “For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.”. Whatever the ministry, it is the Master’s mission and it is by His might that we do our duty. If your heart is in His hands worry not about what your hands can do– He is “able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,” ( Eph. 3:20)! As the branch abides in the vine, it is our union with Christ that we are made to succeed.

I don’t know what challenge lies before you– what it is that God would have you to do– but I know He who makes all grace abound will make you fruitful. That should broaden the horizon of your expectations. It should produce possibilities and create confidence that you’ve never seen before. You can put your hands to the plow without fretting about whether or not you will be fruitful. You can labor with assurance that it will not be in vain. The precious promise of the One that cannot lie assures you that your efforts will be met with success. He will make you “fruitful in every good work”– (Col. 1:10)–HDS

OUR PURPOSE

“Unto Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages…”– Ephesians 3:21
As we celebrate out 49th anniversary as a church today, I can’t think of a better verse of scripture than this one to center our thoughts on. Here we find the very reason for being on earth. I found the following comments in an article in my drafts and I’m sharing it with you as a reminder of why we exist.
“The goal of the church is the glory of God. Although our attention and efforts are so easily distracted toward building programs, political games, or personal relationships, none of these can substitute as a foundation or motivation for the church. The church exists to glorify God in the world.
But we cannot do this in our own strength. That is why Paul prays that this glory will come by Christ Jesus. The more we rely on our own ingenuity, business savvy, or personality for the success of the church, the less God is glorified in the church.
Any organization can thrive through careful business models or market research. But Christ’s church dies without Christ. God is glorified in the church only as Christ as looked to as the sole source of strength and motivation and direction for the church.
Thank God, though, He has not left the church merely to the inventions and power of any person or earthly organization. He has purposed that glory will be given Him, by Christ Jesus, throughout all ages.
What about you? Are you part of God’s plan for glorifying Himself? If you are not actively involved in a local church then you cannot take part in this great purpose.”

MORNING MANNA    10/6/18

October 6, 2018 By Pastor David Stone

“But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.” (James 1:22)

There is a subtle deception that attending meetings, conferences and seminars is doing the work of God. We listen to messages and talk about what we know we should be doing, and the delusion creeps over us that we are accomplishing His will. What we are actually doing is increasing our responsibility and deceiving ourselves. We deceive ourselves that we are spiritual when actually we might be quite carnal. We deceive ourselves that we are growing when the truth is that we are stagnant. We deceive ourselves that we are wise when we are pathetically foolish.

Jesus said that the wise man is the one who hears His words and does them. The foolish man also hears His words but does nothing about them.

It is not enough to listen to a sermon and walk away saying “What a marvelous message.” The true test is when we go away saying, “I will do something about what I heard.” Someone has said that a good sermon not only stretches the mind, warms the heart, and tans the hide but it also provokes the will to action.

In the middle of his message, a preacher once asked his audience the name of the first hymn they had sung. No one knew. He asked the text of Scripture that had been read. No one knew. He asked what announcements had been made. No one could remember. The people were playing church.

Before every meeting, we might well ask ourselves the following questions. Why did I come? Am I willing to have God speak to me personally? Will I obey Him if He does?

The Dead Sea justly earned its name by constant input without corresponding outflow. In our lives, information without application leads to stagnation. The Savior’s persistent question comes home to us, “Why call ye me Lord, Lord and do not the things that I say?”– William MacDonald

MORNING MANNA        10/5/18

October 5, 2018 By Pastor David Stone

“…..in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.”-Matt. 18:16
There are numerous ways in which man would benefit from doing things God’s way– basing his decisions on God’s Word. Our text is a good example. Here we find Jesus telling us that a valid judgment can be made only if there are two or three witnesses. He based this on what was demanded in Deut. 19:15. In other words, Jesus did exactly what we ought to do, which is to be governed by the will of God as set forth in the Word of God. We should be so wise!

We would save ourselves a world of trouble if we observed this principle. Rather than going off half-cocked, rushing to judgment about another person we should insist that there be two or three witnesses to confirm the charge. Over and over again we see false charges presented with great emotion against an individual only to find out later that they were untrue. That’s what happens when we hear only one side of a matter, when we make judgments without all the facts.

There is something in our sinful nature that wants to believe the worst about others, especially when it works to our advantage. But if we are going to live by the Bible, like we claim to do, we must do as it says. That would include giving others the benefit of the doubt unless there are two or three witnesses. Relationships have been ruined, marriages destroyed, churches split, reputations soiled, and people unfairly incarcerated all because this rule wasn’t followed. And it’s too late to lock the gate after the calf is out, after the damage has been done.

Why are we so intent on judging folks without sufficient evidence against them? Are we afraid they might get by with something? What gives us the right to ignore what God demands and risk ruining someone’s life all because we fear they “might be guilty”? When we do things God’s way he has a way of making sure people reap what they sow. Nobody is getting away with anything. There is a payday some day. Rather than worry about the possible sin of others you better concern yourself with what is clearly a sin on your part when you ignore the command to base your judgments on two or three witnesses.

To show you the importance of this matter, I want to remind you that in John 5:31-40 Jesus Himself appealed to four witnesses to establish proof of who He was; John the Baptist (vs.32-35), His works (vs. 36); the Father (vs. 37-38); and the Scriptures (vs. 39-40). Since Jesus followed the principle of two or three witnesses so should we. Shame on us if we don’t!- HDS
