MORNING MANNA          9/21/18

September 21, 2018 By Pastor David Stone

“But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister; And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant:”- Matt. 20:26-27

Many aspire to be great who have no understanding of what true greatness is. They want to be admired, acknowledged, and awarded something. They love being in the spotlight and getting their name in the headlines. They might put forth great effort and even make great sacrifices, but it is always all about them rather than others. They call themselves Christians but you see nothing of Him in them.

When our blessed Lord descended from the gates of glory to live as a man among men He did not come as a potentate to take over and rule the nations nor as an educator, a miracle worker, or even as a perfect example. He came as a lowly servant (Phil. 2:7; Luke 22:27) and a sacrifice ( Matt. 20:28). He didn’t come to be ministered to, but to minister and give His life for sinners. He even took the place of a slave and washed the feet of His followers (John 13:1-17).

We hear a lot about Christians being “Christ-like”, but we see almost no evidence of it? Who are we serving?  Since the servant is not greater than his Lord, why do we refuse to do as He did? Where is the evidence of saving faith, true love, humble service, and cheerful obedience?

We live in a world deceived by Satan, defiled by sin, and dominated by self-interest. Sacrificial service is almost nonexistent. People would rather entertain or be entertained than to edify others. It is rare to find someone who is truly more concerned about others than they are about themselves. Most would rather be served than to serve. They fail to understand that true greatness comes from giving rather than getting. –HDS

MORNING MANNA      9/20/18

September 20, 2018 By Pastor David Stone

“Yet now be strong, O Zerubbabel, saith the LORD; and be strong, O Joshua, son of Josedech, the high priest; and be strong, all ye people of the land, saith the LORD, and work: for I am with you, saith the LORD of hosts:“- Hag. 2:4

What glorious news this must have been to those weary workers of that day. To think that the great I Am says, “I am with you” must have made a deep impression on them. Even so, every Christian is assigned a work of some sort to do, a temptation to conquer, and troubles to endure– so we each stand in need of help. If we are to succeed in any of these challenges we must have assistance. We cannot do it on our own.

In our text we find a precious promise to a particular people, but based on what the Bible teaches elsewhere we can each apply this to ourselves. Whatever the situation is God says, “I am with you“. God forbid that we ever read this with a blasé attitude. If ever there was anything that should be received with joy and thanksgiving this is it. To know that God is with you should give you peace, lift your spirit, and fill you with courage to face the challenge. His presence will aid you in every endeavor, protect you from every enemy, empower you against all temptation, and bring joy to your heart.

It was this promise that Christ attached to the Great Commission in Matt. 28:20-“..and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”. Think about that! Whether it is when you pillow your head at night, arise to face a new day, struggle to do your duty, face some new challenge, grieve over loss, or lay on your death bed– He is “with you“. Although silent and invisible He is there, and no less powerful than when He created the world by the word of His mouth. And it will be so until the end of the age, when we shall then be with Him! Cheer up weary pilgrim you are not alone.– HDS

MORNING MANNA       9/19/18

September 19, 2018 By Pastor David Stone

“Delight thyself also in the LORD: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart..“- Psa. 37:4
One preacher said this Psalm is all about “What to do when the bad guy wins”. The great thing about it is that it teaches us how to bring peace to a troubled heart– which we all experience at times. Here is a short, simple, but serious subject. It ought to get our attention because our desire for delight is great. No one would choose difficulty, disappointment, and depression over delight. But in reality that’s exactly what some folks do. The average person fails to do what is commanded. Notice I said “commanded” for that’s exactly what this is. It is something we are to do regardless of the circumstances. So why do we so easily disregard it? After all it is for our benefit–“and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart:”.

There are numerous reasons why we ought to delight in the Lord. As the old song says, “Count you many blessings”. You need to do that. We should delight in who God is, what He has done, what He is doing, and what He has promised to do. Regardless of how dark the night or how difficult the way we have reason to rejoice in our Lord. No situation can be so bad that we can’t delight in God, and if we did it would help us get through it.

Whatever troubles your mind, crushes your spirit, disturbs your peace, and dims your joy, if you will force yourself to look to Jesus it will help you. Although it might not change your circumstances it will change you– and that always gives you the best chance to change other things. Delighting in the Lord will create contentment, provide peace, generate gladness, and produce power. Although this is a command and wise counsel, we can also consider it a gracious invitation. When we delight in the Lord we desire what He desires, causing Him to give us our desires. We can always find delight in our difficulties because we can always find delight in the Lord– if we choose to do so. So what choice will you make? — HDS

MORNING MANNA       9/18/18

September 18, 2018 By Pastor David Stone

“But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.”-John 20:31

Professional golfer Tommy Bolt was known to be very particular about taking advice from his caddies. Once while playing in Los Angeles, Bolt told his caddy, “Don’t say a word to me. And if I ask you something, just answer yes or no.”
At one point, Bolt approached the ball under a tree where he had a very tough shot to make. He looked at his caddy and asked, “Five-iron?”
   “No, Mr. Bolt.”
“What do you mean, ‘No’?” And with that, Bolt took out his five-iron and hit the ball two feet from the hole. He smirked at his caddy and said, “Now what do you think? You can talk now.”
“Mr. Bolt,” the caddy said, “that wasn’t your ball.”
It’s possible to be very sure about something, yet still be far from the truth. All you have to do is take a look around the world today and see there are many people who are passionate about different things. And not everything can be true. So someone has to be wrong!
This is why we can’t base our search for truth on our passions. We have to look for what’s credible. And with all the spiritual beliefs out there today, none of them is as credible as the one that claims Jesus was raised from the dead. It’s as provable as any other event of its time!
Christianity isn’t right because you believe it. It’s right because it’s true, and that’s why you can believe it! (Senior Living)

MORNING MANNA       9/17/18

September 17, 2018 By Pastor David Stone

“Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God. Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.”– James 1:19–21

The story goes that in a small English village many years ago, a young man was told that he had been insulted by someone he thought was a friend. He rushed out indignantly, planning to demand an apology or have a fight. An elderly man sitting nearby stopped him and asked what his rush was. When the young man explained his purpose, the older man offered him some wise counsel. “My dear boy, take a word of advice from an old man who loves peace. An insult is like mud; it will brush off much better when it is dry. Wait a little, till he and you are both cool, and the thing will be easily mended. If you go now it will only be to quarrel.” The angry young man listened, and waited rather than confronting the one who had offended him, and soon the friend who had given the insult came and asked forgiveness.

While there may be times when we need to make sure our testimony is not damaged by false accusations, we do not have to fly off the handle and try to insist on speaking our minds immediately. It is far better to wait until we know for sure exactly what happened or what was said, for many times the early reports are not correct in some or even all of their details. And it is better to wait until our temper has cooled before confronting someone who has offended us. This is not to say that we should nurse a grudge, but the passage of a few hours or days may make dealing with a conflict much easier. Patience and carefully planned responses have guarded many relationships from being badly damaged.
