MOTHERS

May 8, 2016 By Pastor David Stone

A teacher asked a boy this question: “Suppose your mother baked a pie and there were seven of you–your parents and five children. What part of the pie would you get?” “A sixth,” replied the boy. “I’m afraid you don’t know your fractions,” said the teacher. “Remember, there are seven of you.” “Yes, teacher,” said the boy, “but you don’t know my mother. Mother would say she didn’t want any pie.”

That simple little story illustrates what it is that makes mothers so special. Because of the greatness of their love they are willing to do without so others won’t have to do without. It was with that kind of love in mind that John Killinger wrote the following:

“I believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of the loving God, who was born of the promise to a virgin named Mary..

I believe in the love Mary gave her son, that caused her to follow him in his ministry and stand by his cross as he died.

I believe in the love of all mothers, and its importance in the lives of the children, they bear. It is stronger than steel, softer than down, and more resilient than a green sapling on the hillside. It closes wounds, melts disappointments, and enables the weakest child to stand tall and straight in the fields of adversity.

I believe that this love, even at its best, is only a shadow of the love of God, a dark reflection of all that we can expect of him, both in this life and the next.

And I believe that one of the most beautiful sights in the world is a mother who lets this greater love flow through her to her child, blessing the world with the tenderness of her touch and the tears of of her joy.“

GOD’S PLAN FOR THE FAMILY

May 7, 2016 By Pastor David Stone

“Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. ” – (Exodus 20:12)

It has been said that a family can survive without a nation, but a nation cannot survive without the family. God established the family by bringing a man and a woman together in marriage. Then came children and grandchildren. That is His order.

The Bible tells us, however, that in the last days there will be an attack on the family. One of the signs of the end times will be a lack of respect for one’s parents. We read in 2 Timothy 3:1-2, “ This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come .  For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

We have certainly lost sight of God’s commandment to “Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. ” (Exodus 20:12). Notice the commandment is to honor your father and mother—not honor your father and father, or your mother and mother, or your mother and her live-in lover or partner. We tamper with God’s order at our own peril.

Know this: Satan always hates what God loves. God loves the family. He established the marriage of a man and woman as a physical representation of His love for the church and the church’s love for Him.—-Therefore it should come as no surprise that the devil would try to undermine the family.–Copied

Tomorrow is “Mother’s Day”—do as God commands and “Honor thy…mother”! No one deserves it more.

MEDICINE FOR TROUBLED HEARTS

May 6, 2016 By Pastor David Stone

“Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.“–John 14:1

This verse is rich in precious truth….dear to Christ’s believing servants in every part of the world. Many are the sick rooms which it has lightened! Many are the dying hearts which it has cheered!

We have in this passage, a precious remedy against an old disease. That disease is trouble of heart. That remedy is faith.

Heart-trouble is the commonest thing in the world!
No rank, or class, or condition is exempt from it.
No bars, or bolts, or locks can keep it out.
Partly from inward causes–and partly from outward causes;
partly from the body–and partly from the mind;
partly from what we love–and partly from what we fear
—the journey of life is full of trouble! Between grace and glory–even the best of Christians have many bitter cups to drink. Even the holiest saints find the world to be a valley of tears! “Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows!” John 16:33

Faith in the Lord Jesus is the only sure medicine for troubled hearts!
To believe more thoroughly,
to trust more entirely,
to rest more unreservedly,
to lay hold more firmly,
to lean back more completely–
this is the prescription which our Master urges on the attention of all His disciples.

Never let us forget that there are degrees in faith, and that there is a wide difference between weak and strong believers. The weakest faith is enough to give a man a saving interest in Christ, and ought not to be despised–but it will not give a man such inward comfort as a strong faith. Vagueness and dimness of perception are the defect of weak believers. They do not see clearly what they believe and why they believe. In such cases more faith is the one thing needed. Like Peter on the water, they need to look more steadily at Jesus–and less at the waves and wind. — J.C. Ryle

FRIENDS OF JESUS

May 5, 2016 By Pastor David Stone

“Ye are my friends…“–John 15:14

Is that not remarkable? Considering who He is—the perfect Son of God in whom there is no spot or blemish, but altogether lovely; and considering who we are— vile, sinful, wretched beings without any righteousness of our own, it is amazing that He takes us into His circle of friendship! And, notice that this isn’t just in word only, but in deed. He proved His love by providing what He promised. He laid down His life for us. So it is no stretch of the truth when He says, “Ye are my friends”. He loves us with a love that is ever alert to our needs and available to help when they arise.

But there is more. He is not just our Lord, our Savior, our Creator, our teacher and Master–He is our Friend! He not only has an interest in our needs, He is attentive to our desires, and grants us the privilege of intimate communion with Him. Although He is King of kings and Lord of lords, He takes us into His inner circle. We are more than subjects of His kingdom, and servants in His field, we are friends– which changes everything.

Because He loves us we love Him. Because we love Him we love one another. Abiding in His love affects everything we do and every relationship we have.

Because of Jesus we are forgiven, followers, friends, and family!–Copied

A COMMAND, CHALLENGE & CHOICE

May 4, 2016 By Pastor David Stone

“Rejoice in the Lord alway”. Philippians 4:4

We ought to view this as a command because it is stated in the Word of God. It is also a challenge, because life is tough and we are weak. But we should also remember that it is a choice. Were it not possible there would be no obligation on our part. Regardless of how we feel, or what the circumstances are, as Christians this is a choice the we have the power to make. And there are great blessings in doing so. Rejoicing in the Lord colors our thinking about everything in life.

James Smith wrote,”This is a very difficult precept; sometimes the Lord hides His face; we fear and doubt our interest in His love; we are almost bewildered through the powerful workings of corruption within us; we are bowed down by Satan’s sore temptations; and the dispensations of providence are so perplexing, that we are ready to cry out, All things are against us. But we are not bidden to rejoice in frames and feelings, or in the dispensations of providence, but in the Lord. He has loved us with an everlasting love, and His love is immutably the same; He is our God in Jesus, and has promised to be unto us, to do for us, and freely give us, all that our circumstances require, or that will be for our good and His glory. In weakness we may rejoice in His power; in darkness we may rejoice that He knoweth our path; in sickness and sorrow, that He careth for us; and under any circumstances, in His covenant relations; for He is always our Father, Friend, and God. We should rejoice in His free grace, rich mercy, omnipotent power, faithful promises, special providence, and unchangeable love.”

Rejoice in glorious hope!
Jesus, the Judge, shall come,
And take His servants up
To their eternal home;
We soon shall hear the archangel’s voice,-
The trump of God shall sound, REJOICE.
