And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. –2 Cor.  12:9

Jesus is the Fountain of grace and mercy. He alone can give to his people the assurance of hope, because none but He is infinite in power, and infinite in grace. Hear his own declaration, ‘My grace is sufficient for you.’

With this promissory note in my hand, ever payable on demand, when presented by faith and prayer in the name of Jesus, I need not despond. I shall receive in return what will supply my every need out of the fullness which is in Christ Jesus. Out of his fullness, I shall receive, and grace for grace.

My needs are many, but my supplies are infinite. Though millions of weak, tempted, persecuted, dying believers, have been invigorated in every age by this living water, yet its streams are undiminished; it still remains as it ever was — Grace Sufficient! Sufficient to relieve the needy, to strengthen the weak, to pardon the guilty, to sanctify the unholy, to support the disconsolate, to comfort and save all, however vile and worthless; who sincerely, fervently, and perseveringly seek for it, through faith in Christ.– Thomas Reade

But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:– 1 Peter 1:19

The blood of Jesus is the price of our redemption, the object of our faith, the ground of our peace, the subject of our meditation, and our constant plea at the throne of grace.

It satisfied Divine justice, and speaks peace to the humble sinner’s heart. It overcomes Satan, and cleanseth from all sin.
It purges the conscience from dead works, and leads us to joy in God. We build on it as our foundation, flee to it as our refuge, look to it as the cure for sin, and sing of it as the joy of our heart. It has made a perfect, a satisfactory, an infinite atonement; and no sinner can perish who relies upon it, washes in it, and pleads it before God. It is indeed precious blood! It is invaluable!

Whenever you feel guilt on your conscience, fears rising in your mind, or a gloom come over your spirit; look to, meditate upon, make use of, the precious blood of Jesus. It made peace, it gives peace, and it secures peace. It cleanses, heals, and sanctifies; and we could not live happy one day without it. The blood of Jesus Christ cleanseth us from all sin. To this alone we must look as the foundation of our hope, and ground of our peace.–James Smith

Dear dying Lamb! Thy precious blood
Shall never lose its power,
Till all the ransom’d church of God
Be saved to sin no more.

He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?-–Rom. 8:32

Understanding who we are and what we have in Christ is crucial to our ability to cope with the difficulties of life. One of the best lessons we can learn is that no one is earning their way with God. Everything we have and are is due to His grace. It is as Spurgeon said in his comments on this verse:

“If this is not a promise in form, it is in fact. Indeed, it is more than one promise, it is a conglomerate of promises. It is a mass of rubies, and emeralds, and diamonds, with a nugget of gold for their setting. It is a question which can never be answered so as to cause us any anxiety of heart. What can the Lord deny us after giving us Jesus? If we need all things in heaven and earth, He will grant them to us: for if there had been a limit anywhere, He would have kept back His own Son.
What do I want today? I have only to ask for it. I may seek earnestly, but not as if I had to use pressure and extort an unwilling gift from the Lord’s hand; for He will give freely. Of His own He gave us His own Son. Certainly no one would have proposed such a gift to Him. No one would have ventured to ask for it. It would have been too presumptuous. He freely gave His Only-begotten, and, O my soul, canst thou not trust thy heavenly Father to give thee anything, to give thee everything? Thy poor prayer would have no force with Omnipotence if force were needed; but His love, like a spring, rises of itself and overflows for the supply of all thy needs.“

And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud.–Gen. 9:14

So always, too, in spiritual life, whenever a cloud is in the sky—the rainbow appears on the cloud, the rainbow of divine promise, of God’s love and grace. We are accustomed to say that every cloud has a silver lining, and the saying is true. In other words, every dark providence has a bright, shining side. As God sees it, there is a blessing in it. It is not always true that we can see the rainbow on the cloud; sometimes we can see only gloom and shadow. But faith can always be sure of good in every trial, in every sorrow, in every loss, even when the natural eye cannot see it. “We know that all things work together for good—to those who love God.”

Someday we shall know that many of our best blessings have come to us out of our sorrows. In the Book of Revelation we are told that there is a rainbow about the throne of God and the Lamb in heaven, which would seem to be a suggestion that God’s covenant is not for earth only—but also reaches forward into the blessed life beyond. Perhaps our richest blessings in heaven—will be from earth’s sorrows! –J. R. Miller

A. W. Tozer wrote, “Sometimes our trouble is not moral but physical. As long as we are in these mortal bodies our spiritual lives will be to some degree affected by our bodies—Shakespeare said something to the effect that no man could be a philosopher when he had a toothache, and while it is possible to be a weary saint, it is scarcely possible to be weary and feel saintly”.

We are wise to keep that in mind–for two reasons. First, doing so aids our attitude about self. We tend to get down on ourselves, feel guilty, and beat ourselves up because we can’t do the things we used to do or things we would like to do. We need to understand that God understands. He doesn’t expect more from us than we are able to do.

Second, we need to remember this because it serves as a safeguard concerning our thoughts about others. Many have the bad habit of misjudging others. Based on what we see we assume they are neglecting their duties or just making a halfhearted effort, but we don’t see the whole picture. They might be going through great difficulties that we don’t know anything about.

Even if we’ve been in a similar situation that doesn’t mean we know how they feel or are affected, as we often claim. Every person is different. You cannot know the severity of another person’s problem, nor the degree of their pain. No two people are alike. Their suffering might be far greater than you ever imagine. Saying, “I’ve been there done that. I know how you feel” might be well meant, but you’re wrong. You don’t know how they feel. Do some people over-react? Without a doubt. Do some people exaggerate? Of course they do. But we don’t have the right to accuse them of such, because we don’t really know.

If we are wise we’ll be more understanding, patient, and considerate. It’s not fair to bash someone when we don’t know all the facts. They might be doing much better than we would do under the same circumstances. Love would have us give them the benefit of the doubt. Even if the person is guilty as sin we’re not the judge. That person needs your prayers, not your criticism.
