SEIZE THE MOMENT

May 7, 2013 By Pastor David Stone

See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise. Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.–Eph. 5:15-16

John Wesley was returning home from a church service one night when a man approached him and demanded all his money. Wesley, however, had only a little money and some Christian literature. So the robber took all he had and began to run.

As he was leaving, Wesley called out, “Stop! I have something else for you.” The surprised robber paused. “My friend,” said Wesley, “you may live to regret this sort of life. If you ever do, here’s something to remember: The blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sin!” Then the thief hurried away.

Several years later, Wesley was greeting worshippers after a Sunday service when he was approached by a stranger. He was shocked to learn that this visitor, now a believer in Christ as a successful businessman, was the one who had robbed him years before! “I owe it all to you,” said the transformed man.

“Oh no, my friend,” Wesley exclaimed, “not to me, but to the precious blood of Christ that cleanses us from all sin!”

Had Wesley not seized the moment to share the love of Christ with this robber, who knows what would’ve happened to him. But because he did, the man was saved. Don’t miss any opportunity to share the love of Christ with the lost. Let them know Jesus loves them because you never know the impact you’ll have!

Ask God to help you make the most of every opportunity to share His love with others.(Copied)

NOTHING TOO HARD FOR GOD

May 6, 2013 By Pastor David Stone

Is any thing too hard for the LORD?—— Genesis 18:14

Here is God’s loving challenge to you and to me today. He wants us to think of the deepest, highest, worthiest desire and longing of our hearts, something which perhaps was our desire for ourselves or for someone dear to us, yet which has been so long unfulfilled that we have looked upon it as only a lost desire, that which might have been but now cannot be, and so have given up hope of seeing it fulfilled in this life.

That thing, if it is in line with what we know to be His expressed will (as a son to Abraham and Sarah was), God intends to do for us, even if we know that it is of such utter impossibility that we only laugh at the absurdity of anyone’s supposing it could ever now come to pass. That thing God intends to do for us, if we will let Him.

“Is anything too hard for the Lord?” Not when we believe in Him enough to go forward and do His will, and let Him do the impossible for us. Even Abraham and Sarah could have blocked God’s plan if they had continued to disbelieve.

The only thing too hard for Jehovah is deliberate, continued disbelief in His love and power, and our final rejection of His plans for us. Nothing is too hard for Jehovah to do for them that trust Him. (Messages for the Morning Watch)

GOD’S WILL

May 5, 2013 By Pastor David Stone

—-Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.–Matthew 6:10

Many people shrink from God’s will. They think that it always means pain, or sorrow, or bereavement. They always feel melancholy when you speak of doing the Will of God. Alas! how the devil has libeled God. The will of God is the will of a Father. It is the Fatherhood of God going out in action. “It is not the will of your Father that one of these little ones should perish.” “This is the will of God, even your sanctification.”

If only the will of God were done on earth, as it is done in heaven, there would be peace between the nations, and love and happiness in all our homes. Love would cement the union of all men in a city of blessedness. The fact of the world’s present condition is no argument against the beneficence and blessedness of the will of God. It is because men will not do the will of God that things are as they are!

In our own life we shall never be really fight or happy until we have got to the point of saying: “I delight to do Thy will, O my God.” We may not begin there. The first step is to choose it, then we shall come to accept it lovingly and thankfully; but, finally, we shall rejoice and delight in it. If you cannot say “Thy Will be done,” say: “I am willing to be made willing that Thy Will should be done.” —- Depend on it that He will not fail, nor be discouraged with the long process that may be required; and that He will not be rough or violent. He will stay His east wind. He will keep His hand on the pulse, that He may be aware of the least symptom that the ordeal is too strong.

At first there may be a twinge of pain, as when a dislocated limb is pressed back into its proper position, but afterwards there is the blessed restoration of healthy vigour. You will only lose what you would gladly give up if you know as much as God does of what promotes soul-health. “Whosoever,” said our Lord, “will do the Will of my Father, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.” “In His Will is our peace.–F. B. Meyer

STAYING ON COURSE

May 4, 2013 By Pastor David Stone

“I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in right paths. When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.”–Proverbs 4:11-12
When shooting a gun, a sight picture that is off just a fraction of an inch can cause you the miss the target by several feet. In taking a journey, one step off course sets you in a direction that will cause you to miss your goal a mile. In living one small deviation from the truth can lead you down a road of error that will end in destruction. Every step must be in the right direction or we miss the mark by a wide margin. Just as pilots must continually make adjustment to stay on course we must take great care in where we are headed lest we crash and burn.To prevent this mistake we would do well to consider what Paul Chappell wrote about staying on course:

The use of the term “red herring” to describe something that distracts someone from their main goal dates back to at least the 1500s. The writer Thomas Nashe penned, “Next, to draw on hounds to a scent, to a red herring skin there is nothing comparable.” Despite this literary depiction, there appears to be little evidence that hunters actually used herring to train their dogs to stay after their prey, but the phrase stuck. It came to be used as a general figure of speech to describe a false trail that led nowhere but instead draws attention away from the main thing.

The devil is a master at using distractions to draw us away from what God intends for us to do. He is perfectly willing to use good things to keep us away from the best things. I once heard a sermon “Rabbit Chasers” in which a preacher with rural roots described how in his childhood they would take their dogs into the woods to hunt opossum but found that the dogs would stop hunting opossums to chase rabbits instead. He talked about how anything that distracts us from God’s best is a waste.

When it comes to avoiding destructive distractions, wisdom offers a great defense. Wisdom chooses the important and long-lasting over the fleeting and temporary. Wisdom rejects the quick fix in favor of the permanent solution. Wisdom shuns the approach of the world for the path of God—even when that path is narrow and not chosen by many others. In short, the more we are in touch with God’s Word and God’s wisdom, the more closely we follow in God’s path.–Stay focused on God’s plan and purpose for your life, and do not allow anything to take you off course.

SIN AND ITS EFFECTS

May 3, 2013 By Pastor David Stone

He was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities– Isaiah 53:5
Above all things and at every stage of life we are helped by keeping our attention on the cross. Not only is it the message that leads to our salvation, it is the means to our sanctification. The following copied from “A Good Thing” says it well:

It was love that sent Jesus to the cross. It was “the joy set before Him” that kept Jesus on the cross. But it was our sins that necessitated the cross.

Why couldn’t Jesus simply come to earth and preach and call for repentance and then go back into heaven? Why was it not good enough for Him to live a perfect life and then return to His Father in heaven? It was because sins, before a holy and just and good God, require punishment.

Because God is just, He will not allow us to go free without punishing our sins. That would be like a judge letting a convicted serial killer back onto the streets.

Because God is good, He will avenge every one of the countless wrongs in the world. He will not allow victims of violence and deceit to be victims for ever.

Most importantly, because God is God He will not allow His holy character and position to be ignored and violated without consequence. Therefore, our sins must be paid for.

The great beauty and tragedy of the cross is that there the perfect Jesus received the wounds for our transgressions, there He was bruised because of our sins. He chose to take our place and receive our punishment.

How can we dare to willfully sin any more, knowing that precisely those sins were what caused the great wounds of our great Savior?
