FEAR HAS ITS PLACE
“Happy is the man that feareth alway” (Proverbs 28:14). The fear of the LORD is the beginning and the foundation of all true religion. Without a solemn awe and reverence of God there is no foothold for the more brilliant virtues. He whose soul does not worship will never live in holiness. He is happy who feels a jealous fear of doing wrong. Holy fear looks not only before it leaps, but even before it moves. It is afraid of error, afraid of neglecting duty, afraid of committing sin. It fears ill company, loose talk, and questionable policy, This does not make a man wretched, but it brings him happiness. The watchful sentinel is happier than the soldier who sleeps at his post. He who foreseeth evil and escapes it is happier than he who walks carelessly on and is destroyed. Fear of God is a quiet grace which leads a man along a choice road, of which it is written, “No lion shall be there, neither shall any ravenous beast go up thereon.” Fear of the very appearance of evil is a purifying principle, which enables a man, through the power of the Holy Spirit, to keep his garments unspotted from the world. Solomon had tried both worldliness and holy fear: in the one he found vanity, in the other happiness. Let us not repeat his trial but abide by his verdict.–Faith’s Checkbook
HEAVEN ON MY MIND
But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him.–1 Corinthians 2:9
Someone said,”You Christians are so heavenly minded that you are of no earthly good”. But a dear saint standing nearby said,”No sir, you’ve got it wrong. We are so earthly minded that we are of no heavenly good”. Good point! We don’t think as much of or about heaven as we should, and it shows. We sing about having heaven on our mind, but do we really?
David Jeremiah said,”Why do so few believers long for heaven? Are children unmoved by the anticipation of Christmas morning? Are young couples apathetic about their wedding day? Certainly not. We need to expectantly look forward to our eternal destination.
Heaven is an actual location, and it is a future for everyone who knows and loves the Lord Jesus Christ. It is a place of reunion with those we’ve lost, and it is a place where we will see our Savior face-to-face. At that moment we will experience a deeper, fuller, and more exhilarating gladness than we can even begin to comprehend.
On the day we finally see His face, we’ll know beyond all doubt just how much God loves us — how much He always has, and how much He always will. As we kneel in His presence, tears of joy staining our faces, we’ll finally understand how much He has longed to be with us. We’ll then hear those two words that every soul longs to hear above any words imaginable: Welcome home.”
Are you complain about your lot in life, or rejoicing about your inheritance in heaven? Your attitude will affect your actions! Spurgeon said,”If there were no hell, the loss of heaven would be hell.” For many, life on earth seems to be hell because they have forgotten about heaven. The most useful people on earth are those who think much about heaven. What’s on your mind?
LASTING LOVE
Fear not, for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God…–Isaiah 41:10
Absolutes are often frowned on in our culture. Whether it’s absolute truth about God, His Word, or morality, progressive thinking deviates from absolutes. The unchanging truth that God has always loved us and always will is hard for some people to fathom. But it is a truth that defies the critics, a love that will not let us go.
Fortunately, God’s love doesn’t depend on how well we love Him back. We don’t earn it, deserve it, or maintain it. Unlike human love, it has no conditions and no limits. Yet think of the mental energy people needlessly expend in anxiety over messing up and somehow losing His love.
God loves you at the top of the mountain, and He loves you equally in the depths of the valley. Maybe in your pain you have torn yourself from His arms. Even then, God’s love remains intact in spite of your anger. When you cease striving and simply begin to trust the rope–the infinite love of God–you will discover marvelous power, astounding power, supernatural power. You need never let go of your hope because God will never let go of His love for you. Rest in His grip!(Turning Point).
He loved us not because we are lovable, but because He is love.–C. S. Lewis
MURMURING
Is not Christ your treasure? Is not heaven your inheritance—and will you murmur? Has not God given you a changed heart, a renewed nature, and a sanctified soul—and will you murmur?
Has He not given you Himself to satisfy you, His Son to save you, His Spirit to lead you, His grace to adorn you, His covenant to assure you, His mercy to pardon you, His righteousness to clothe you—and will you murmur? Has He not made you a friend, a son, a brother, a bride, an heir—and will you murmur?
When you were dead, did not He quicken you? When you were lost, did not He seek you? When you were wounded, did not He heal you? When you were falling, did not He support you? When you were down, did not He raise you? When you were staggering, did not He establish you? When you were erring, did not He correct you? When you were tempted, did not He support you? and when you went in dangers, did not He deliver you?—and will you murmur?
What! you who are so highly advanced and exalted above many thousands in the world? Murmuring suits none so badly as saints.–Thomas Brooks
