WALKING WITH GOD

August 26, 2012 By Pastor David Stone

Order my steps in thy word; and let not any iniquity have dominion over me.—Psalm 119:133

This is a prayer which should always be on our lips.
We should get our direction from God, not once in
our life only, when we first give ourselves to Him;
not at the opening of each day only, as we go forth
to the day’s task; not merely at the beginning of
each new piece of work or of each fresh task—but
every moment
, for each step.

That is what “walking with God” means.

We may make this so real, that we shall look up
into God’s face continually, asking, “What next,
dear Lord? What shall I do now? Which course
shall I take today? How shall I do this duty?”

If we can but have God’s guidance and help for
the little short steps—we need not fear for the
long miles—the great stretches of road. If each
step
is of His directing—the long miles will be
paths of His choosing.–J. R. Miller

THE BEST IS YET TO COME

August 25, 2012 By Pastor David Stone

Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning– Psalm 30:5

The longer I live, the more I see and experience the more precious this promise becomes. Regardless of how bad, or good, it is now, for the Christian the best is yet to come. It is as another has said:

Weeping does indeed endure. In fact, the night of weeping can sometimes appear to be endless. When sorrow comes over us in waves, when disappointments follow hard on the heels of each other, when physical pain wracks our body — the night stretches on and on.

But here is the great consolation of Scripture. Joy is coming! It may seem to linger, but it is irresistibly moving toward you and will reach you with the darkness-shattering power of the dawn. Now matter how severe the shadows, no matter how stormy the darkness, once the dawn comes the night is easily and quickly forgotten. No darkness is so great that the coming of the Son does not drive it away.

For the Christian, the best is always yet to come. Is the energy and beauty of youth behind you? The best is yet to come. Has health and strength left you? The best is yet to come. Have you lost a loved one to that old enemy Death? The best is yet to come.

Weeping may endure; there are sorrows that simply cannot be faced without tears. But joy is coming…dawn is approaching…the best is yet to come.(“A Good Thing”)

MY DELIVERER

August 24, 2012 By Pastor David Stone

But I am poor and needy; make haste unto me, O God: thou art my help and my deliverer; O LORD, make no tarrying.–Psalm 70:5

How frequently are we poor Christians involved in dangers and difficulties, from which we cannot extricate ourselves! Surrounded as we are by enemies and evils–this can be no wonder. But how are we to be delivered? To whom are we to look for relief and rescue? To Jesus alone, who is emphatically “The Deliverer!”
He has power–and will exert it!
He has wisdom–and will employ it!
He has merit–and will apply it,
for the deliverance of all who call upon Him to do it.

He delivers . . .
  from sin,
  from Satan,
  from dangers,
  from damnation!

He delivers . . .
  freely,
  frequently,
  and effectually.

He has delivered . . .
Joseph from the evil designs of his brethren,
David from the hand of Saul,
  Daniel from the lions, and
multitudes in every age, from eternal Hell.

He delivers from all evils–and from the most determined foes!

David celebrated his delivering mercy when he sang, “For you, O Lord, have delivered my soul from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling–that I may walk before the Lord in the land of the living!” Psalm 116:8-9

How sweetly encouraging is this–to view Jesus as our present deliverer in every season of trouble, and in all circumstances of danger–to know that He is ready to arise for our rescue, and appear for our deliverance.

What need we to fear? Why should we indulge our gloomy apprehensions? He has already conquered every foe, and whenever He appears–all flee before His face. There is . . .
  such majesty in His countenance,
such terror in His frown, and
such love in His heart toward His people–
that whenever He appears on their behalf–all their enemies melt away like snow, and depart as a midnight dream!

O gracious Deliverer of Your people, deliver my soul from . . .
  the power of sin,
  the influence of the world,
  the force of temptation,
the deceitfulness of my own heart,
and the designs of all my foes!
Keep me by Your mighty power, through faith, unto salvation! –James Smith

HOW TO SHAKE-UP THE CHURCH

August 23, 2012 By Pastor David Stone

“…grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word, … And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.” (Acts 4:29, 31)
I believe it not to be a naive thing to trust in the absolute validity of the Holy Bible, and that every word of it has been forever settled in the Father’s mind.  I equally trust that it is the holy duty of every child of God to study the Scriptures that they may be approved of the Father.  No doubt, through our neglect much of the Spirit’s availability has been set adrift, and to a great extent the Christians’ and churches’ power has diminished sadly below poverty levels.
Modern prayer is filled with shallow self-centered “give me” fraudulent attempts to gain the Father’s ear.  The “old paths” of prayer were ever mindful of our unworthiness and thus sought the true mercies of God.  The word “servants” identifies the willing obedience of the praying ones to submit in all things to the glory of the Father and the Son.  Their desire was to perform the work of the Kingdom in a fashion suitable to the sons of God – in holy power.  They sought not their own, but yearned to be filled of Holy Spirit.
God’s work cannot be accomplished by the works of the flesh.  It demands the Christ-centered willing spirit to be endued with power from on high.  Heavenly occupation demands heavenly muscle.  The saints are not at liberty to set foot on the battleground ill-equipped.  Hence, it demands due diligence to plead with the Father for the appropriate empowerment for the task at hand.

As Paul and Silas prayed the presence of the Holy Spirit shook the very foundations of the jail to the saving of souls.  In our text when the church prayed with a believing mindset to obtain courage for preaching the word unto the saving of souls, the filling of the Spirit once again quaked the assembly.  Has God changed?  Where are the consecrated ones praying for a shaking of their assembly?–By Dr. Manuel Seymour, Sr. (Please pray for Bro. Seymour who is in poor health.–HDS)

THE UNSEARCHABLE RICHES OF CHRIST

August 22, 2012 By Pastor David Stone

—-the unsearchable riches of Christ.— Ephesians 3:8

My Master has riches beyond the count of arithmetic, the measurement of reason, the dream of imagination, or the eloquence of words. They are unsearchable! You may look, and study, and weigh, but Jesus is a greater Saviour than you think him to be when your thoughts are at the greatest. My Lord is more ready to pardon than you to sin, more able to forgive than you to transgress. My Master is more willing to supply your wants than you are to confess them. Never tolerate low thoughts of my Lord Jesus. When you put the crown on his head, you will only crown him with silver when he deserves gold. My Master has riches of happiness to bestow upon you now. He can make you to lie down in green pastures, and lead you beside still waters. There is no music like the music of his pipe, when he is the Shepherd and you are the sheep, and you lie down at his feet. There is no love like his, neither earth nor heaven can match it. To know Christ and to be found in him—oh! this is life, this is joy—. My Master does not treat his servants churlishly; he gives to them as a king giveth to a king; he gives them two heavens—a heaven below in serving him here, and a heaven above in delighting in him forever. His unsearchable riches will be best known in eternity. He will give you on the way to heaven all you need; your place of defence shall be the munitions of rocks, your bread shall be given you, and your waters shall be sure; but it is there, there, where you shall hear the song of them that triumph, the shout of them that feast, and shall have a face-to-face view of the glorious and beloved One. The unsearchable riches of Christ! This is the tune for the minstrels of earth, and the song for the harpers of heaven. Lord, teach us more and more of Jesus, and we will tell out the good news to others.—Morning & Evening
