OUR FAITHFUL FATHER

July 2, 2012 By Pastor David Stone

It’s stamped on our coins, printed on our money, stated in our legal documents, and expressed in our songs—“In God We Trust”. But do we really? If we really loved God and fully trusted God would not things be much different than they are? Indeed they would! However, my present purpose is not to focus on man’s failures, but on God’s faithfulness. We seem to have all but forgotten that He is trustworthy, dependable, faithful regardless of circumstances.

Perhaps it’s because of the people in our lives who have failed to deliver on their promises and live up to our expectations that cynicism has crept into our thinking. Disappointments can be devastating, not only in relationship with others, but also in regards to our attitude toward God.

The good news is that although we often fail, He never does. Even when we doubt He abides faithful. He never fails to do as He has promised. Search the pages of history and you will discover that God’s faithfulness has been on display throughout. As much as they would like to, even His enemies cannot lay any justifiable charge at His feet. They cannot put their finger on even one example of where God has failed or falsely represented Himself. He is without spot.

God is holy and honest, faithful and true. And He changes not! What He was yesterday He is today and will be tomorrow. Although things don’t always turn out the way you planned or as you desired or imagined, God never fails. He has proven Himself to be fully faithful and totally trustworthy. So, when you are confronted with unexpected problems, confused by unusual situations, confounded by undesirable circumstances, cumbered about with unending duties, challenged by unrelenting enemies, or collapsing under unyielding pressure, just remember–God is faithful and He has a promise for every need.

Our nation, it seems, is headed for tough times, but do not let that get you down. Rise up on the wings of His exceeding great and precious promises and trust Him to bring good out of the bad. Come what may, God is able to deliver us, and we never make a mistake by trusting Him. He will not fail!

A PURPOSE IN EVERYTHING

July 1, 2012 By Pastor David Stone

But as it is written: “Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him.” – (1 Corinthians 2:9)

It has been said that the hammer shatters glass, but it forges steel. God has His purposes in the storms of our lives. God is in control, and He has a plan.

God knows all things in the past, present, and future. And God—and God alone—is uniquely qualified to know when to ordain or to permit evil and suffering and when not to. Therefore, if He allows, or even brings, something into your life, then He has a plan in mind for it.

We love to follow the Lord when things are going the way we want them to go. But when we come across a rough patch, we put on the brakes. We don’t want to go through that hardship.—-

We love those green pastures and still waters. But we are not really excited about a valley, especially when the shadow of death is written over it. But God is with us in those times as well—

Life on earth for the believer is as bad as it will ever get. If you are a Christian, realize that the worst time of your life is as bad as it will ever be. That is the hope we have.

And through the hardships of our lives, God can accomplish great things.– Greg Laurie

THE BEST EVIDENCE OF CHRISTIANITY

June 30, 2012 By Pastor David Stone

Jesus is “the chief among ten thousand, the altogether lovely one.”

Christ the Chiefest, or better than the rest.
His love is unknowable. (Eph 3:19).
His riches are unsearchable. (Eph 3:18).
His joy is unspeakable. (1 Pet 1:8).
His ways are untrackable. (Rom 11:33).
His grace is inexhaustible. (2 Cor 9:8).
His peace is unfathomable. (Phil 4:7).
And He Himself is unsurpassable. (Ex. 15:11).

His character was beautiful with holiness in every detail. (Heb 7:26).
His love was pure and faithful in all its affection. (Jn 13:1).
His service was true and beneficent in all its workings. (Acts 10:38).
His words were tender and true in all their utterances. (Jn 7:45).
His life was consistent in every department. (Mt. 27:24; Acts 2:22).
His aim was single and concentrated in glorifying God. (Jn 17:4).
His mission was to benefit all who would have Him in dying a death
which they deserved. (2 Cor. 8:9)

Christ is Christianity, and the best evidence of Christianity is Christ.

A LESSON ON LIFE

June 29, 2012 By Pastor David Stone

It is often the case that things don’t get better until they get worse—sometimes much worse! Even when our leaders deceive us, disappoint us, and design evil against us—desiring to destroy what we hold dear, good can come from it. I said “can”, not “will”. If the evil toward us does not awaken us and spur us to action we can expect more and more bad news–it will get “much worse”. It never gets better until we get right!

In the light of all the problems that plague us, we would do well to listen to what James Meikle wrote in 1794:

I am taught some noble lessons:

1. To expect no solid or lasting happiness
 in anything but in God.

2. To see how much we may be mistaken
in our opinion of men and things.

3. To expect nothing but disappointment and pain in
the world–and so to be prepared for misfortunes.

4. To build upon no present state of things; for a storm
of troubles may gather from any place, and at any time.

5. In all things to rejoice in being forever with
God, who will eternally wipe all tears from our
eyes, and sorrow from our hearts!

THE STORM

June 28, 2012 By Pastor David Stone

“And there arose a great storm”–Mark 4:37

Some of the storms of life come suddenly: a great sorrow, a bitter disappointment, a crushing defeat. Some come slowly. They appear upon the ragged edges of the horizon no larger than a man’s hand, but, trouble that seems so insignificant spreads until it covers the sky and overwhelms us.

Yet it is in the storm that God equips us for service. When God wants an oak He plants it on the moor where the storms will shake it and the rains will beat down upon it, and it is in the midnight battle with elements that the oak wins its rugged fibre and becomes the king of the forest.

When God wants to make a man He puts him into some storm. The history of manhood is always rough and rugged. No man is made until he has been out into the surge of the storm and found the sublime fulfillment of the prayer: “O God, take me, break me, make me.”

A Frenchman has painted a picture of universal genius. There stand orators, philosophers and martyrs, all who have achieved pre-eminence in any phase of life; the remarkable fact about the picture is this: Every man who is pre-eminent for his ability was first pre-eminent for suffering. In the foreground stands that figure of the man who was denied the promised land, Moses. Beside him is another, feeling his way — blind Homer. Milton is there, blind and heart-broken. Now comes the form of one who towers above them all. What is His characteristic? His Face is marred more than any man’s. The artist might have written under that great picture, “The Storm.”

The beauties of nature come after the storm. The rugged beauty of the mountain is born in a storm, and the heroes of life are the storm-swept and the battle-scarred.

You have been in the storms and swept by the blasts. Have they left you broken, weary, beaten in the valley, or have they lifted you to the sunlit summits of a richer, deeper, more abiding manhood and womanhood? Have they left you with more sympathy with the storm-swept and the battle-scarred? –Selected, “Streams in the Desert”
