A BIG SURPRISE !

November 25, 2008 By Pastor David Stone

“There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink”–John 4:7
It was high noon when the woman approached the well, an unusal time for most people. She came for water at a time when there was the least amount of traffic because she, evidently, wanted to avoid a face to face confrontation with the other women. There was a reason for her fear–she had been married five times and was living with a man who was not her husband. The “respectable” women of the city would never keep company with a woman like that.
Suddenly a stranger approached her and ask for a drink of water—but you know the rest of the story don’t you. In her wildest dreams she never envisioned meeting the Son of God–especially during the course of her regular routine, especially on this day and in this place. Who could have imagined an experience like hers? Her life and her eternal destiny were changed in a matter of minutes. After her encounter with Jesus she had a purity, a peace and a purpose that she never had before. She was changed forever and she wanted everyone to know. Running into the city she proclaimed her great discovery.
There are many lessons to be learned from this story, but I want you to consider just one–You never know what a day may hold! Although none of us will ever experience the exact same thing, we should think about the possibilites that each new day may bring. Some unexpected and unusual blessing might be just around the corner. Something more wonderful than anything you ever imagined could happen today. Although we don’t have a promise the mere possibility of it should be enough to make us look forward to each new day. With Christ at the center of your life you have good reason to be excited about life.Tell someone else what you’ve discovered.
“Today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday”

NO MAN CARED FOR MY SOUL

November 24, 2008 By Pastor David Stone

“—no man cared for my soul.” (Psalm 142:4)
If you feel that no one cares, you just might be pretty close to being right! I know that in most instances saying, “Nobody cares” is an exaggeration, but in some cases it is mighty close to the truth. Many claim or pretend to care, but few really do. Let’s not kid ourselves, if you think the world is going to stop and mourn your passing when you die, you’re wrong. Life goes on. Even many of those who attend your funeral won’t be grieving an hour after you are buried. They will be stuffing themselves with chicken and talking about the ball game shortly after they put you in the grave.
We might as well face the facts–most people don’t give a hoot about people, at least when it comes to caring on a deep level. They go through life using people, rather than caring for people. The moment you cease to contribute to their welfare you’re off their list of things to “care” about. O they still might talk about “caring”, but they don’t–or it would show. Those who care do! Caring is more than talk. Caring provides needs and seeks to please.
Now let’s get practical. Like it or not, we live in an uncaring world. Except for a precious few, people aren’t really concerned about you or me.So what? Does it hurt? Sure it hurts. It hurts us just like it hurts those who are hurt by uncaring people. We’re all hurt ,and hurt people hurt people. We’re all in this together, we just deal with it differently. So how should we respond to an uncaring world?
To put it simply, we should do as God commands regardless of how unpleasant the situation is. We should do our duty and we should do so with a good disposition. We should love people unconditionally, even when they are unloving. Jesus put it this way, ” Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them—“( Matt. 7:12). Listen folks, this isn’t hard to understand—do for others what you want them to do for you, even when they don’t care enough to do it. Do you want others to care for you? Then you ought to care for them–even if it is obvious that they don’t care anything about you. Our motive is to please Christ, not to gain the favor of others, manipulating them to please us. We all can make a big difference in our little part of the world if we stop feeling sorry for ourselves and start caring for others.
Lastly I want to remind you that, regardless of who you are or what you’ve done, there is someone who cares–His name is Jesus! He cares so much that He suffered and died on the cross that He could meet your deepest need!

“LIKE A CHILD ON THE SEA-SHORE”

November 23, 2008 By Pastor David Stone

“And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.”( Eph. 3:19)
I am determined to keep my focus on Christ, rather than the conflicts and calamities around me, and to help others do the same. One great thing about this subject is that it cannot be exhausted. When you think you’ve said it all you haven’t even touched the hem of the garment.
Many years ago, a man congratulated Sir Issac Newton on his great knowledge. The wise philosopher replied,“I have been like a little child on the sea-shore taking up a little water in a shell when the vast ocean of truth lay undiscovered before me.” Is not that the way we should feel when we speak of Christ. That’s what Paul had in mind when he said the love of Christ “passeth knowledge“. Listen to these words in Romans 11:33,”O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!”
If you think you’ve got it all figured out–think again! Let us spend our lives “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith” (Heb. 12:2). That’s the key to everything related to the Christian life.Only by doing that can we “be filled with all the fulness of God.”

BETTER THAN BREAKFAST

November 22, 2008 By Pastor David Stone

“–I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.”( Job 23:12)
William Wilberforce wrote,” I must secure more time for private devotions. I have been living far too public for me. The shorting of devotions starves the soul, it grows lean and faint. I have been keeping too late hours.”
Here was a man overwhelmed by the busyness of his position. Yet he understood that a victorious life depended upon a regular diet of God’s Word. And he was determined to do make time for it.
What about you? Are you so busy that you neglect to feed your soul? We cannot expect to live a vibrant Christian life if we are spiritually malnourished. Temptations become stronger, will- power becomes weaker, and staying power lessens when we fail to feed on God’s Word. Proper priorities demand that we put God first and nothing is more important in our relationship with God than the nourishment we receive from His Word. If you are too busy to read and study the Bible you are just too busy! Turn off the TV. Disconnect the phone. Put down the newspaper. And pick up the Bible. Better to miss breakfast than to ignore the Bible.

ENCOURAGE ENCOURAGERS

November 21, 2008 By Pastor David Stone

Ro 15:13 Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.
 (KJV)
Sometimes encouragers need to be encouraged. Here is a good example. A pastor was making visits in a hospital when a nurse told him about a woman who was in great need of encouragement. “She is very deformed and her body has been twisted since childhood. She really needs someone to try to cheer her up.” The pastor agreed to help. When he entered her room he told the woman he would like to give her a book that had helped many people recover from their depression. After looking at the book, the woman said, “I really ought not to take this book, sir.” The pastor replied,”Why not? Have you already read it?” The woman responded by saying,”I have not only read it; I wrote it!”
It is amazing that a woman who had never been able to walk could have such peace and joy that she could write a book designed to help others over come depression. But, now she was in need of help herself. That’s not unusal–even the strongest saints sometimes get discouraged. Sadly, they often get overlooked. They are always there for others, but nobody is there for them. You probably know someone like that. Stop and think about someone who has encouraged you and return the favor!
