SPIRITUAL WARFARE

October 20, 2011 By Pastor David Stone

Having recently completed a series of messages entitled, “The Devil’s Dangerous Devices”, the following article caught my eye. It’s called, “The Attack of Spirirtual Warfare” and was written by David Jeremiah to promote his new book. In this article he does a good job of laying out the facts before us. I hope you will read it, think about it and then actually spend some time some time studying the subject. We are indeed “in a war” and we either prepare or suffer defeat.

The Christian’s spiritual enemy is not in uniform, and he doesn’t meet us on an identifiable battlefield. He uses ruthless and unconventional tactics, such as deceit, deflection, and disguise. Yet a large number of pastors and teachers ignore or downplay spiritual warfare to the point that many professing Christians don’t even know they’re in a war.

That means we have a crisis on our hands, and we need to sound the alarm.

The Church of Jesus Christ needs to know its enemy and his strategies. Yes, God wins in the end. But the more unsuspecting or unbelieving a person is concerning the reality of spiritual warfare, the more easily he or she becomes prey. The only way to protect oneself from Satan’s infiltration is to be on the side of the One who is more powerful than he is: “because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world” (1 John 4:4).

Today, as we move ever closer to the appearing of Christ for His Church and the subsequent Tribulation period, we are witnessing a biblically-predicted increase of demonic activity all around the world. Yet many self-professed Christians fail to take seriously the Bible’s teaching about Satan and spiritual warfare.

The Bible could not be more clear about the existence of the devil and the reality of the spiritual conflict going on all around us. We must not lose sight of the fact that we are in a war – a war for the ages and a war for the souls of men.

Our task is to embrace what the Bible tells us about our enemy and be prepared for the battle we most certainly will face – even today.

What you can do:
Prepare:
– Read Ephesians 6:10-18.
– Be prepared for spiritual battle by daily studying God’s Word……

Pray:
– Ask God to help you navigate with discernment when involved with television, movies, or any entertainment that might take lightly – or glamorize – the powers of darkness.
– Ask God to help you mature in your Christian walk so you can stand strong when spiritually attacked.
– Pray for God to help your church understand the reality of spiritual warfare.

Participate:
– You don’t need to fight the devil alone. Get involved with an accountability partner who will pray for you and be available to you (Ecclesiastes 4:9-12).
– Be committed to a Scripture memory program…..

As a disciple you must learn how to deal with the dangerous devices of the devil or be defeated and/or destroyed. We are in a battle for our lives and we must be battle ready! Please–Think about it! –HDS

OVERCOMING EVIL

September 24, 2014 By Pastor David Stone

Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good– Romans 12:21

What a powerful, concise exhortation this is! In just a few words, Paul sums up the mission of Christian living.

First, be not overcome of evil! There are a thousand different ways in which Satan seeks to tear down our Christian testimony. It may be a temptation to sexual sin, or a tendency toward despair, or a disposition toward anger, or a longing for personal advancement or recognition.

But for all the temptations that may come our way, the remedy is the same, simple command: do not allow evil to overcome you. Stand fast in the Lord and in the power of His strength. Do not give in; do not be puffed up; do not allow your pride or lust or pain to overwhelm you.

And, second, overcome evil with good. The Christian’s posture is not a defensive one. We are to be overcomers, not merely survivors. Not only are we not to give up in fighting sin, we are to counteract the sin in the world by our good lives and conduct. We are to overcome evil.

How can we do that? Not by fighting fire with fire, but rather by overcoming evil with good. There is no other way to successfully battle evil in the world. The goodness of our Savior must be reflected in the good words and works of His people. The more His goodness is displayed, the more sin loses its strength and subtlety.

Don’t be overcome by sin; rather, overcome sin with the goodness of God.– (Baptist Bible Hour)

If the goodness of God led you to repentance (Rom. 2:4), what makes you think you can conquer evil with evil? Fighting fire with fire only enlarges blaze.-HDS

PET PLEASERS

October 19, 2011 By Pastor David Stone

I just happened to be watching “Animal Cops” when I saw/ heard something that troubled me. After being rescued from a horrible situation, nursed back to health, and adopted by a woman, a certain dog was being taken on its first outing with its new owner. After a few comments about how well the dog was adjusting, the woman said, “It is my purpose in life to make him happy”. I wonder what the husband thought about that?

Please don’t misunderstand me–I like animals, especially dogs ( notice, I said “like”, not “love”), and I believe that pets should be well cared for, but that woman’s attitude was pitiful! Anyone who makes it their “purpose in life” to please pets is more than a little mixed-up. They are totally off-track. They are living for the wrong thing. Their priorities are pitiful. Some people spend excessive amounts of money on dog food, etc. without giving a thought to needy children. Do you suppose they will have to give an account for it?

Think about it. With all the children who are in dire need of help, how can any sane person make it their life purpose to please pets? Something is wrong with that picture. Right here in America, the most prosperous nation on earth, millions of children live in terrible circumstances. Wouldn’t it be better if these pet pleasers made it their “purpose in life” to help them and make them happy? Why don’t these folks devote themselves to providing loving care for little children who can’t help themselves? There are many children who have never been given any special attention–why not help them? This is beyond sad, it is sinful when parents fail to provide the basic needs of their children. Nor are we any better if we refuse to stand in the gap on their behalf. We can complain all we like about the failure of those parents, but that doesn’t change anything for the better. We don’t improve the situation by just complaining about it. We need to get involved. No child should ever be neglected. Find someway to help someone have some need met in their life. Think about it!

JOY IN UNITY

September 23, 2014 By Pastor David Stone

“I beseech Euodias, and beseech Syntyche, that they be of the same mind in the Lord. And I intreat thee also, true yokefellow, help those women which laboured with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and with other my fellowlabourers, whose names are in the book of life. Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.”–Philippians 4:2–4

A divided church is not going to be a powerful church. Unity was one of the most prominent characteristics of the church in Jerusalem. The Bible tells us that on the Day of Pentecost, “They were all with one accord in one place” (Acts 2:1). Yet because churches are filled with people, there are frequently issues that must be addressed. The best solution to bring about unity is not for us to focus on each other, but instead to focus on God. Just as pianos are not tuned to each other but instead to a tuning fork, His joy provides a common thread that will knit disparate hearts together and bring unity.

In his sermon “The Duty of Joy” Charles Spurgeon said, “There is a marvelous medicinal power in joy. Most medicines are distasteful; but this, which is the best of all medicines, is sweet to the taste, and comforting to the heart. We noticed, in our reading, that there had been a little tiff between two sisters in the church at Philippi; as a cure for disagreements, the apostle says, ‘Rejoice in the Lord alway.’ People who are very happy, especially those who are very happy in the Lord, are not apt either to give offence or to take offence. Their minds are so sweetly occupied with higher things, that they are not easily distracted by the little troubles which naturally arise among such imperfect creatures as we are. Joy in the Lord, then, drives away the discords of earth.” ( Daily in the Word)

“8 MIRACLES THAT SAVED AMERICA”

October 18, 2011 By Pastor David Stone

I don’t know about you, but for the sake of sanity I have to limit the amount of time I spend reading and/or listening to news and commentary regarding the state of our union. However, considering the condition of our country we dare not ignore reality and neglect the needs of our nation.

From time to time I run across articles that need to be widely circulated and seriously considered. Just this morning I read an article entitled “8 Miracles That Saved America”, by Chuck Norris, that gives us much food for thought. You can read the article at this link, http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=356753 . The article ends with this quote from George Washington, written to James Madison in 1786: “No morn ever dawned more favorable than ours did; and no day was ever more clouded than the present! Wisdom, and good examples are necessary at this time to rescue the political machine from the impending storm.” Think about it!
