CHRIST LIVETH IN ME

August 6, 2010 By Pastor David Stone

I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the live which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.—Gal.2:20

I have delighted in this verse for more than forty years and it never grows old. Many years ago I had the privilege of meeting Major Ian Thomas, a remarkable man, and I want to share his experience with you. I hope this story, told by Robert Morgan, blesses your heart as it did mine:

During World War II, Major Thomas served with the British Expeditionary forces in Belgium and took part in the evacuation at Dunkirk.  He later became a far-famed evangelist and Bible teacher, and the founder of Capernwray Missionary and the Torchbearers.

But the real defining moment for Ian Thomas came when he was a young man at the university.  He was leader of the InterVarsity Fellowship group on his campus in London, and he poured himself into campus evangelism with incredible zeal.   He later recalled, “Out of a sheer desire to win souls, to go out and get them, I was a windmill of activity, until, at the age of 19, every moment of my day was packed tight with doing things:   preaching, talking, counseling.

“The only thing that alarmed me was that nobody was converted!  That gets a little discouraging after a bit, doesn’t it?  The more I did, the less happened; and it was not a question of insincerity.  The prospects and the environment were good; there was plenty of ammunition and plenty of targets, but just nothing happened!  I became deeply depressed, because I really loved the Lord Jesus Christ with all my heart; I wanted to be made a blessing to my fellow men.  But I discovered that forever doubling and redoubling my efforts, rushing here and dashing there, taking part in this campaign, taking part in that campaign, preaching in the morning, preaching in the evening, talking to the Bible class, witnessing to this one, counseling with another, did nothing, nothing to change the utter barrenness and uselessness of my activity.

“Thus by the age of 19, I had been reduced to a state of complete exhaustion spiritually, until I felt that there was no point in going on.”

But one night in November of that year, about midnight, Ian Thomas got down on his knees in his room and wept in sheer despair.  “Oh, God,” he said, “I know that I am saved.  I love Jesus Christ.  I am perfectly convinced that I am converted.  With all my heart I have wanted to serve Thee.  I have tried to my uttermost and I am a hopeless failure!”

Suddenly a phrase from a Bible verse flashed into Thomas’ mind:  Christ, who is your life!  It hit him with terrific force and it seemed God was saying this to him:  “For seven years with utmost sincerity, you have been trying to live for Me, on My behalf, the life that I have been waiting for seven years to live through you.  Now supposing I am your life…  I am your strength…  I am your victory in every area of life.”

And Ian Thomas relinquished his own role in his own life, saying to the Lord:  “If this is true, then I am going to thank Thee for it in sheer cold-blooded faith, with no evidence to support it, and nothing but a history of failure behind me.  I am going to thank Thee that if Thou art my life, and this is true, then Thou art my strength, Thou art my power, Thou art my future.  Thou art the One Who is going to go out now, clothed with me, to do all that I so hopelessly have been trying to do in the past seven years.”

Shortly after, Thomas was to speak to a boys’ Bible class.  On his way, he said, “Well now, Lord, Thou art going to speak to that boys’ class, isn’t it wonderful?  Yesterday I thought I was going to, but Thou art going to now!”

He arrived to find about 90 boys gathered for the class.  He just spoke simply about the Lord Jesus, then invited any who wanted to receive Him as Lord and Savior to see him afterward.  Thirty boys stayed behind.  And that was the beginning of an extraordinary lifetime of fruitful ministry

STRENGTH FOR THE SAINTS

July 11, 2014 By Pastor David Stone

“The Lord will give strength unto His people.” Psalms 29:11

HOWEVER hot the war, or sore the trial, we may be sure of this, that “as our day, so shall our strength be.” God has promised, and He will give. He gives because they are His people, as the father to His children, because He has covenanted to do so, and He is faithful; lest their foes should triumph over them, whereas He has said, “They shall overcome at the last.” He has raised their expectations, and He will not disappoint them; He has commanded them to pray, and He will not refuse. He will give strength sufficient enough, but perhaps none to spare suitable to their circumstances and wants. Has the Lord pledged Himself to give strength to His people; yea, to be Himself their strength? Then let us fight courageously, look forward joyfully, bear every cross patiently, pray fervently, praise daily, and believe confidently. God hath spoken, saints in every age have found Him a truth-telling, promise-performing God. Satan is a liar, a deceiver, a false witness against God. Let us therefore resist him, and he will flee from us. The strong God will be our support in every trial.

Give me Thy strength, O God of power;
Then let winds blow, or thunders roar,
Thy faithful witness will I be:
‘Tis fix’d: I can do all through Thee:
Fulfil Thy sovereign counsel, Lord,
Thy will be done. Thy name adored! — James Smith

WHO IS OUR ENEMY?

August 5, 2010 By Pastor David Stone

I just finished reading an article entitled,”Our own government has become our enemy”. I’ve also read several comments lately saying that it’s time for a second American revolution–some say it has already started.

I never thought I would live to see the day when Americans would be building up arsenals in preparation for battle against their own government. We always thought that kind of stuff happens somewhere else. Right? Well, dear friend it’s happening here. If you can’t see what is happening in America you’re living in a dream world. Come to think of it–that’s exactly what many folks are doing. They are so uninformed that they don’t have a clue as to what is happening in America. All they know is what they hear from a few sound-bites from the corrupt liberal news media that is dead set on destroying America.

Like it or not, believe it or not, America is in serious trouble and unless something is done things are about to get a whole lot worse. Coach Dave Daubenmire put it like this–“Liberty is on life support, they are purposely pushing us in a corner.”

In the last few days we’ve seen two very important examples of state rights being trampled under-foot by federal judges. First was the ruling in Arizona regarding immigration laws. Then came the ruling in California denying the right of the state to define marriage as a union of one man and one woman. Commenting on these two rulings, Dave Daubenmire wrote:

In both cases, the courts “struck down” the will of the people. In both instances, one woman, and then one man, booted our Republican form of government to he curb. If the vote of the people can no longer change the laws of the land; when the “opinion” of one judge can over-rule the “opinion” of the majority of the people we have descended into unspeakable tyranny. America is teetering on the precipice.

My friends, America is broken and no one is more culpable than the courts. Our “domestic” enemies have done in sixty years what our “foreign enemies” could never have accomplished. While America’s young men were fighting to preserve liberty with guns and grenades, the real insurgents were using legal briefs and atheistic lawyers. All of the great moral terrorism levied on this nation was done, not by those dressed in a burka, but by those dressed in legal robes. Not by those trained in Islam, but by those trained in law. The “terrorist in black robes” have destroyed this nation.

Folks, court opinions are not law. Courts cannot make laws, they can only interpret them. Only the Congress or the people can make laws. Allow me to say it again. Courts cannot make laws. When will America wake up? The rendering of a court “decision” carries no lawful weight. As Andrew Jackson is reported to have said regarding a John Marshall Court decision, “Marshall made his decision, now let him enforce it.” It is time to stand up against the secular mullahs masquerading as “judges”. There opinions are not laws and it is time we started acting like it.

Dear friends I realize that as Christians it is not our job to change and save the world, but if we do our job it will sure make a difference. As we win the lost to Christ people change and ultimately society begins to change. That’s our only hope for America. We aren’t doing our best for America unless we are doing our best to carry out the great commission given to us by the Lord. If you really care about the future of your children and grandchildren, then get busy trying to win folks to Christ. That’s the only thing that will bring about the changes we need. Think about it!

PERMANENT BLESSINGS

July 10, 2014 By Pastor David Stone

“That those things which cannot be shaken may remain.” – Hebrews 12:27
We have many things in our possession at the present moment which can be shaken, and it ill becomes a Christian man to set much store by them, for there is nothing stable beneath these rolling skies; change is written upon all things. Yet, we have certain “things which cannot be shaken,” and I invite you to think of them, that if the things which can be shaken should all be taken away, you may derive real comfort from the things that cannot be shaken, which will remain. Whatever your losses have been, or may be, you enjoy present salvation. You are standing at the foot of his cross, trusting alone in the merit of Jesus’ precious blood, and no rise or fall of the markets can interfere with your salvation in him; no breaking of banks, no failures and bankruptcies can touch that. Then you are a child of God —-God is your Father. No change of circumstances can ever rob you of that. Although by losses brought to poverty, and stripped bare, you can say, “He is my Father still. In my Father’s house are many mansions; therefore will I not be troubled.” You have another permanent blessing, namely, the love of Jesus Christ. He who is God and Man loves you with all the strength of his affectionate nature-nothing can affect that. The fig tree may not blossom, and the flocks may cease from the field, it matters not to the man who can sing, “My Beloved is mine, and I am his.” Our best portion and richest heritage we cannot lose. Whatever troubles come, let us play the man; let us show that we are not such little children as to be cast down by what may happen in this poor fleeting state of time. Our country is Immanuel’s land, our hope is above the sky, and therefore, calm as the summer’s ocean; we will see the wreck of everything earthborn, and yet rejoice in the God of our salvation. –Charles Spurgeon

IDENTIFYING THE ENEMY

July 13, 2010 By Pastor David Stone

Many people, including a lot of our leaders, don’t understand our nation’s conflict with the Muslims. The following article from “Frontline” magazine is a brief and clear description of what we are facing:

“For the first time in its history, the United states is trying to wage and win a war without accurately identifying the enemy or its motivations for seeking to destroy us.”  Both civilian and military leaders have failed to speak clearly about our attackers, calling them ‘militant Muslims,’ radical Islam, extremist Islam, Islamofascists, or just ‘terrorists.’  Both civilian and military leaders fail to make clear that we face a totalitarian ideology bent on our destruction.  Their intent is just as clear as that of Hitler, but more dangerous, for they consider that their mission of global conquest is divinely inspired, and they are already well dispersed among these “enemy” nations, including the United States.

The ‘marching orders’ for this conquest are called the Shariah.  Shariah is considered binding law.  The ultimate goal is a global Islamic state, governed by Shariah.  The means for this complete conquest is the ‘jihad.’  Many Muslims take the violent path of jihad, the acts of violence that terrorize innocent neighbors.  Others (the majority) follow the path of “stealth jihad” (dawah), but the goal is still world conquest.  These “peaceful” Musims demand recognition of their right to dress differently, to have special rights at a workplace, Shariah-compliant finance, etc.  Even an attempt to portray Mohammed can result in massive civil disruption.

Shariah offers nonbelievers, when they come to rule an area, three choices:  conversion to Islam, submission (dhimmitude), or death.  In reality, their anticipated global state is not “religious” but political and dictatorial in nature.  We are at war, not with Iraq or Afghanistan, but in attempted self defense because of the attitudes and actions of those who adhere to Shariah law, believing that they must impose it on the rest of us.  Al-Qaeda is an enemy, but only because they actively are endeavoring to spread Shariah law.  Our leaders need to speak clearly about the intent of Shariah and the encroachments of stealth jihad as well as militant jihad.

We also need to assert that certain actions are contrary to our constitution.  Native Americans were clearly instructed that the use of mind-altering drugs, customary in some of their religious ceremonies, are not permitted in our culture.  When Mormons desired to become a state, they were clearly informed that bigamy was not “religious” but socially unacceptable.  We need to find a way to make clear that Shariah is not acceptable under our constitution and in our culture.  I would like to see the state of Michigan take the lead, whether by legislation or constitutional amendment, refusing the right to vote in local, state, or national elections, for instance, to those who refuse to declare that they are not adherents to Shariah.

The “enemy” in our midst needs to be recognized as dangerous.  They desire to be known as “peaceful Muslims,” but only by disavowing Shariah can they be treated as other than potential conquerors.  The time has clearly come to make a far more serious effort to defeat both the violent and stealthy forms of Jihad being waged against this country.   See the full article by Frank J, Gaffney. Jr., Stealth Jihad, FrontLine Magazine, May/June 2010, reprinted from The American Legion, April 2010.
